Taken in with his brother as eggs by Eva, and hatched with her own two children, Oakheart and Rice grew up with Peleides and Foehn. Two of the brothers left when they were of age to make their own places in the world. Pelei and Oak stayed behind. But while Pelei took on the duties of being heir - securing a mate and learning from Eustace - Oak found himself gravitating towards the Treekeepers. This gentle-hearted Guardian has taken up protection of the saplings and trees that are tended to by the clan as members of the Viridryads. Over time, Oak's dedication to the little grove of saplings has altered both his appearance and his name. Oakheart, as he is now called, has become a valued and respected member of the clan. This belief has only been solidified by the treatment Oakheart gives to his adopted son, Noodle - a highly energetic foundling - and the extreme courtesy extended to Maple, his dryad familiar. Those who resist Peleides' push for changes hope that Eustace will grant the title of heir to his adoptive son, rather than his firstborn.
