Biography
EUSTACE
{ YOO-stuhs } Clan Founder • Godswood Druids Clan ╭━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╮ NEVER MADE ME WISE (written by Astereae) ♫ (Imagine Dragons) - (Nothing Left to Say) ♫ ╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯ |
Meeting Eva, another lone Fae, changed the trajectory of Eustace's life. She was a more vivid, and vibrant, dragon and had strong ideas of how to take and hold what was hers. He was enchanted, and wherever Eva moved, Eustace followed. They traveled through the Viridian Labyrinth together for several years, living on the fringes of other clans and the bounty of the Gladekeeper in between. When the pair encountered Birch, another lone Fae, and Eustace fell in love once again, the trio decided it was time to settle down and begin a colony of their very own. They located a thick grove of ancient trees with a large clearing to its side; a clearing that hosted a series of deep tunnels. This was, they decided, where they would begin their future.
Their first nest was small; two eggs that were joined later by a pair of abandoned eggs Birch had located. The three took generous care of their nest and were joined by Foehn, Rice, Peleides, and Oak: the beginnings of both their clan and their family. Although they were happy, Rice and Foehn chose to find their own paths (both of which lead to the service of the gods), but Peleides and Oak were happy to remain.
Peleides, the eldest of Eva and Eustace's children, was eager to prove himself a capable heir. He sought to expand their numbers, and to promote the Gladekeeper's agenda across the lands. Oak, who later became Oakheart, became fixated on the sacred grove; he felt guardianship of it, and the cultivation of young saplings, best honored the Gladekeeper.
Eustace became a gentle and wise leader; he took in those who found them - realizing that the Gladmother was probably sending them for a reason - and committed their clan to the care of the ancient trees that shelter and shade their home.
Although wise, Eustace was often blind to the feelings of those with whom he lived. He was unaware of just how grasping, and ambitious, young Peleides had become - driven by a calling not shared by his father. As the seasons changed, tensions rose between Peleides and Oakheart; one brother reckless in his desire to cover all the world in the Gladekeeper's colors. Eustace was, perhaps, the only one surprised when the conflict sparked into a wildfire.
Hoping to mute the tempers of his eldest sons, Eustace named his youngest - Darach - heir. Furious, Peleides and his faction attempted to strike the sacred grove. In the confict, Oakheart killed his brother's mate.
Fearing further escalation, Eva and Birch stepped in where their mate could not, and banished Peleides and those who followed him.
The founder fell into a deep depression, leaving much of his authority in the claws of a young Fae who had never expected to lead. As if things were not already fragile enough, the priesthood began reporting strange signs and omens.
And then Gemma, the Clan Seer, approached Eustace in the dead of night, desperate to warn him.
They are coming.
