the radiant founder

If you were to ask a Light-born dragon what their earliest memory is, the common answers would look a little like this:

“The golden grass of the plains.”

“Shining marble warmed by the sun.”

“Watching the sunset from the cliffs.”

Marth, however, recalls the river rushing past, sounds marking a beginning, while a young dragon laying among green silently observes.

Only the golden eyes tell which side this border-born child come from. He gazes at the river, but whether his attention was caught by the flowing water, the glittering light dancing on it or the nearly-sickly sweet scent of the blossoms, tracing the borders of its path, is entirely unknown - even to him.

Furthermore, the child is alone - his parents are nowhere to be seen, and will never be.

Of course, a young dragon raised without guidance will have troubles finding its own path. Until it has enough experience to begin making attempts at this, all it can do is hope, and try, to survive.

While Marth is an adept swimmer, the seas would have drowned him. And though lonely upbringings grant some survival skills, the jungle, too, would mean sure death for a mere hatchling. It certainly wasn’t as strong as what drew those dragons who knew of only one flight, but something pulled him towards the safety of the light.

Even as he spent the rest of his youth among ancient ruins, Marth felt a longing, although weak, for something else. For somewhere else.

No - he realized that wasn’t quite it.

He wanted to know who he was. Who his parents were, and why the light he was imbued with felt still incomplete.

It was then that he met Caeda.

Dainsleif's Pearl
This pearl seems to shine brighter than many of the others, and it always remains near the centre of the pool. The memory contained within is as follows:
