Biography

water_3.png Hippocampus/risun
the seer
given name of a region of the brain responsible for memory; the genus of seahorses; and the name of a mythical creature with the upper body of a horse and tail of a fish
old Exalted RP: http://www1.flightrising.com/forums/rp/1643647/1#post_15457935
(The depin is not her permanent familiar)

The entrance to a cave yawns before you with a dark, richly dyed fabric billowing over it. It’s large enough for a guardian to squeeze through, but you can see it shrink to a much smaller space inside, where a network of shelves and tunnels line the walls. The smell of freshwater greets you when you step forward, alongside an alluring aroma you can’t quite identify…
“Well, Well, Well, I seem to have a visitor, “purrs a thickly accented voice, and you turn to see a blue-eyed spiral dip her head out of one of the cracks lining the walls, her scales as white as bones. She slithers slowly outward, eyeing you all the while.
“A client, perhaps? A hirlyng, a vagabound or someone looking for their lost ladylove? Or perhaps you stumbled in by chance? Always my favorite sort of dragon, a curious one. My name is Hippocampus, a seer from the Spiral Keep. A reverse soothsayer, if you will.”

Appearance- A sinuous creature with scales pale as bones (at least, they looked like bones before the color wheel update ;-;).
Personality- She has all the energy of your typical spiral, but a considerable amount of snapper blood has made her less whimsy and more pensive than would be expected. Hipp enjoys the company of other dragons, but is slow to trust and thus prefers to keep a mysterious air about her. That said, most of her aura of mystery come less from intention and more from her having difficulty keeping her head in the present. She occasionally lapses into a chattering tongue that other dragons can't make sense of, sometimes for just a few words, sometimes for longer. Most often these words come from an ancient water flight tongue that has found its way into her head through various artifacts and random histories of land she's visited.
-Often gives other dragons her own names instead of calling them by their real one. These names usually correspond to some vision she has had of them, though she rarely explains why she uses a particular name. It is considered a great compliment when she uses someone's actual name.
Vocation- Seer, she can be useful to go to for help or advice, but her answers are difficult to understand. She's often consulted by the leaders on important decisions and is welcome in meetings, but is not an official consun.

Magic: Hipp can read the history and sometimes present state of objects, places and living things, often through visions and random sparks of knowledge that she has difficulty controlling. When it comes to dragons she tries hard to block out their minds to avoid invading their privacy. She does however, quite enjoy messing with others by referring to facts about their lives without ever having been told them.

History (full story not known by other dragons):

Hipp resisted her birth family ever since she found out as a hatchling that they intended to exalt her to the Tidelord when she came of age. She never grew close to them as a result, and only stayed because she valued the skills her clan taught her in preparation for serving her deity. She respected the honor, of course, but resented that dragons of ordinary flesh and blood had tried to chose her fate.

The Tidelord surely had countless seers in his service already, all of the finest precognitive abilities. Hippocampus, however, was retrocognitive alone, an ability that would be useless in his halls. So why should she attend to her divine father in a place where her magic would be for naught, when she could be of use to the dragons in the here and now? So when it was time for her to be sent to the Tidelord, she felt little guilt in leaving and taking her own path. She would serve faithfully in her old age, but wanted a life of her own first. Her destiny was calling her another direction; Tidefather would understand.

So she wandered, and found in the Plateaus a budding clan with a few most unusual individuals. More importantly, they were in need of another at least somewhat responsible adult. She would be useful here. If her new clan found her unusual, then Hipp more than made up for it by providing for them, occasionally performing tasks before they even realized they needed it done.
