Biography

A bell rings above your head as you push open the door of a tea shop in Lanternlea Port. "Another customer! Great. Leave your coat and shoes by the door; I don't want them coming in any further." A white and blue Coatl greets(?) you as you enter.

A Spiral with a candy-coated skull and a knife sticking out of her neck floats behind a bar, the barest movement keeping her afloat. She ignores you.

Another Spiral sits at a table, poring over a sheet of paper and tilting her glasses over her eyes. She sighs several times before you're even able to take a seat at the bar. A steaming cup of tea sits behind her papers, and the smell of mint fills the air. Her striped fingers clutch a pen, slowly and rhythmically tapping the air as she thinks.

"Order!" You jump. The Spiral behind the bar is staring at you intensely, her claws clicking on the counter.

"Lav." The Coatl reprimands. "Don't pressure the customers like that," her voice discordant in her anger.

The Spiral grins—were her teeth always that big? And rests her arm on the counter, propping her chin in her hand. Her eyes gaze at you, unflinching. "Sorry, Cherina, but I don't think this customer is ever going to order."

"It's okay," you find yourself saying, "I'm ready to order."

"Oh?" The voice is very near, the Coatl right behind you. "What do you want?"

You look around for a menu, your heart beating surprisingly fast. It's not above the shelf on the back wall, and there's nothing on the counter but some napkins and a sugar bowl. The walls are almost bare, except for a questionable poster and a window that the striped Spiral looks out of. Your chest heaves. The room starts to spin, and you grip the stool to keep yourself upright. The pen is tapping. Lav's grin seems to grow the more you stare, and the lavender candy coating swirls with roses and jewelry as you try to gulp down your fear. You open your mouth to speak, to say anything, but you can't, and you swallow air, leaving behind a taste of...  "Mint." You finally croak out. "Mint. Tea."

All at once, nothing is wrong. Your breathing is normal. You were never nearly falling off your seat, and Cherina sweeps the floor somewhere nearby, humming to herself in that jangling way. There's a menu right in front of you. The mint tea is the first option on the menu, before thistle and alstromeria. The lavender Spiral says, "Coming up!" cheerfully, her gray and piercing eyes no longer boring into you. You shake your head, trying to remember what you had been thinking about.

You've nearly grasped the memory when a saucer and tea cup filled with hot leaf water are placed in front of you. The steam wraps around your face, distracting you again. Somehow, your cup is empty. You leave money behind in a daze, the clinking of coins mixing with the tapping of a pen.

"Don't let the door hit you on the way out!" Cherina shouts as you leave.

Lavendula and Cherina run a tea shop in Lanternlea Port. Its a small, out of the way shop, but everyone who's been espouses it greatly. They say the lavender and azure hydrangeas right outside the entrance smell sweeter than any rose, and that the view from the windows is spectacular, overlooking the cliff directly into the end of the world. Its practically mesmerizing. The ocean sits on top of it, deeper than any Undertide can go, a pure black expanse stretching out until eternity. Never-mind that it can only be seen inside the shop. Its worth it to go, just once.

The two dragons running the shop are incredible as well. They do bicker, and insult you or call you names occasionally, but its all done with affection, everyone is sure. They work or shuffle around, doing tea-related things and shop-related things and cleaning things and what else. No one ever pays attention. It doesn't matter, because once you get your tea, you'll be so absorbed by its flavor and nuance that you won't notice anything else! Many dragons have left positive reviews solely about the tea, and just as many about the price.

The inside of the shop is something of a mystery. Most dragons are so preoccupied that they don't notice much of the surroundings, but everyone remembers the door is made of wood, and so are the floors and furnishings, and they are all sure it is tastefully decorated.

And then there are the regulars. There aren't many, but they all seem to come from one clan. A flaxen striped Spiral in particular has been seen many times inside, sipping a cup of tea. Dragons say they come to the tea shop to celebrate, and that they'd never have guessed so many dragons could fit inside one tiny shop. They weren't even aware it could accommodate a Ridgeback, but many have seen other large dragons entering and leaving without any difficulty. Food smells come from the shop when these parties happen, delicious and tantalizing, but they bar the shop to any outsiders, simply stating, “We're closed.”

If you find a dragon who says anything to the contrary, please bring them by the shop! Lavendula and Cherina would love to show them their best hospitality.
