Biography

A bell chimes above your head as you push open the door of a tea shop in Lanternlea Port. "You're better off turning around and leaving, but so long as you can pay." A lavender and azure Spiral acknowledges you as you enter.

A Coatl works behind the bar, a smile splitting her face as lanterns bob around her head. She looks up at you vaguely, almost looking behind you. “We've expected you. Have a seat.”

There's a Gaoler at the table by the back wall. His tail flows off the chair, studded with gold chains and stars. He meets your gaze directly with a smug smile as his hands shuffle flashing cards. There's a star map in front of him, which he occasionally lifts up to the lantern in front of him. The tiny pinpricks of light shine on his fur and into the shadows behind him as his cup of ginger tea scents the room.

“Is he really so interesting, or have you just forgotten your manners?” The Coatl is directly in front of you. “Do you have your order?”

"Give it a rest, Cherina.” Says the Spiral in the corner, arranging the hydrangeas in their vase. "The customer's taking their sweet time." Malice tinged her voice.

The Coatl sighs. Black bands stripe her body, making patterns over her cursed white scales. Horns frame her face, curling themselves inward, while a black bridle jingles as she moves. “Lavendula, we must stop finding such indecisive customers. Do you need help picking?”

"It's okay," you find yourself saying, "I'm ready to order."

"Well then,” The Spiral floats above the counter, staring down at you. “What do you want?”

You look around for a menu, your head starting to hurt. It's not above the shelf on the back wall behind the Gaoler, and there's nothing on the counter but some napkins and a sugar bowl. The Gaoler smiles at you. The walls are completely full, with posters from different bands and plays covering everything but the window. The headache spikes, and you let out an involuntary gasp of pain, your skull cradled in your hands. The light is too bright. Cherina starts to hum a singular note as black bands slither down your arms. You try to breathe, opening your mouth, to make the pain go away, but you can't; your tongue tastes the air, like... "Ginger." You finally choke out. “Ginger. Tea."

All at once, nothing is wrong. Your breathing is normal. There's no headache, and your arms are their normal color. Lavendula shuffles the flowers in the corner, her foot tapping to the rhythm of a silent tune. There's a menu right in front of you. The ginger tea is the first option on the menu, before manyleaves and raspberry. The black-banded Coatl nods, her hands already busy preparing a cup. You shake your head, trying to remember what you had been thinking about.

You've nearly grasped the memory when a saucer and tea cup filled with hot leaf water are placed in front of you. The steam wraps around your face, distracting you again. Somehow, your cup is empty. You leave money behind in a daze, the coins resting in a patch of bright sunlight.

"Bye now!" Lavendula bellows as you leave.

Cherina and Lavendula run a tea shop in Lanternlea Port. Its a small, out of the way shop, but everyone who's been espouses it greatly. They say the lavender and azure hydrangeas right outside the entrance smell sweeter than any rose, and that the view from the windows is spectacular, overlooking the cliff directly into the end of the world. Its practically mesmerizing. The ocean sits on top of it, deeper than any Undertide can go, a pure black expanse stretching out until eternity. Never-mind that it can only be seen inside the shop. Its worth it to go, just once.

The two dragons running the shop are incredible as well. They do bicker, and insult you or call you names occasionally, but its all done with affection, everyone is sure. They work or shuffle around, doing tea-related things and shop-related things and cleaning things and what else. None ever pays attention. It doesn't matter, because once you get your tea, you'll be so absorbed by its flavor and nuance that you won't notice anything else! Many dragons have left positive reviews solely about the tea, and just as many about the price.

The inside of the shop is something of a mystery. Most dragons are so preoccupied that they don't notice much of the surroundings, but everyone remembers the door is made of wood, and so are the floors and furnishings, and they are all sure it is tastefully decorated.

And then there are the regulars. There aren't many, but they all seem to come from one clan. A pearly Gaoler in particular has been seen many times inside, sipping a cup of tea. Dragons say they come to the tea shop to celebrate, and that they'd never have guessed so many dragons could fit inside one tiny shop. They weren't even aware it could accommodate a Ridgeback, but many have seen other large dragons entering and leaving without any difficulty. Food smells come from the shop when these parties happen, delicious and tantalizing, but they bar the shop to any outsiders, simply stating, “We're closed.”

If you find a dragon who says anything to the contrary, please bring them by the shop! Cherina and Lavendula would love to show them their best hospitality.
