You have found yourself in Greybea Meadow, a remote natural sciences-oriented research colony populated by lesbians (and others (I just project a lot)) practicing their various passions. Greybea was first founded by Cambrie and [redacted] Greybea, but it is you, the research scientists, archivists, and others, old and new, who make Greybea what it is. And because I've had people ask: the dragons' emails are not real, do not use them. You'll have to simulate an email in a forum post/PM if you want to email them.

IN-DEPTH

It's the planet Earth, in an unspecified time period. Greybea Institute exists as a rural natural sciences-oriented research colony (used by numerous institutions and individual scientists, but owned by no one in particular) in the temperate rainforests of the Pacific Northwest. Here, we help young scientists discover their passions and develop skills by providing a space for them to establish themselves or move on to another institution.

Cambrie is the legal owner of the laboratory, but prefers to keep to her own work. Wren, ever the hypocritical overworked doctor, often takes it upon herself to pick up unmanned roles.

Newcomers (equivalent to high-school graduates) are lovingly referred to as "Stem Cells". Exalted dragons are dragons who have found a different calling, and moved on to different institutions. Over 1100 students have discovered their passions here!

Many of the dragons here are introverted and unsocialized nerds, but they're passionate enough to hold the clan together without the need for much control either. Moreso, the clan is split into general departments and interests.

The only "permanent" architecture is portable housing units. Tunnels/burrows are also used as shelter.

Most resident dragons go by surname and/or title. Some exceptions, such as Cambrie, exist, however.



ECOLOGY
Cambrie has extensively recorded the climate and ecosystem of the region.

The old-growth forests nearby are notable for heavy rainfall that classifies them as a temperate rainforest.

The meadow is at a slightly higher elevation than most of the land around it, keeping it safe from flooding, but means it is surrounded by water during serious rainfall.

Unusually few trees grow in the clearing the clan is built in, the ones that do grow are short and shrub-like. Based on samples of the soil within in the meadow, though it is very fertile, it is more sandy and loose compared to the loam that the forest grows from. It may have served as a farmland at some point already.

Near the plane, leaked jet fuel contaminates the ground closely around it, though not much else more. Trees and large plants are unable to grow in the toxic soil, but mosses, fungi, and small annuals can be found around the jet.

Marbled Murrelets nest in the woods surrounding the clan, and fly out to sea to feed. Pacific Wrens and Black Phoebes are frequently heard in the forest. Both American Crows and Common Ravens are found in the area, with more ravens on the coast, and crows to the east, and often at odds when they're near each other. Gray squirrels often chase each other around. Deer mice can sometimes be seen poking their heads out of the burrows
