Hiraeth is a word which cannot be completely translated, meaning more than solely "missing something" or "missing home." It implies the meaning of missing a time, an era, or a person - including homesickness for what may not exist any longer.

When Azira runs away from the ruins of his home, he's left with nothing but the sword at his side and all the memories of what came before. Heartbroken, he resigns himself to a life of loneliness, of desperation--and then, out of the blue, he finds a hatchling wandering the woods he claimed as a temporary home. Taking her in proves to be the best mistake of his life--before long, a small clan has grown.

They're all misfits here, outcasts and rejects. Tossed away by their former families, "accidentally" left behind, shunned as freaks and monsters... Azira sees them for what they are. He takes the dead ones in, finding the lost ones like he found his hatchling so long ago, and he brings them back to life. Gives them things to do, dragons to be. Thankful and with nowhere else to turn, most choose to stay, finding a new life in their loosely knit clan. Time can only heal so many wounds, though, and with that thought in mind these dragons branded themselves the Hiraethic.
