Clan lore: Astrapi is one of the largest clans in the Shifting Expanse, though not among the oldest. Founded by an ambitious and Machiavellian Mirror, they had direction and ambition from the beginning. Astrapi operates as a combination of city-state and research laboratory/technology corp; they are concerned with territory, resources, and innovation.
Heterodyne runs the clan like a Mirror pack on a very large scale; the clan is intensely cooperative and values each of its members. Her authority may be a very poor idea to challenge, but clan members can always count on full support, protection, and indulgence in various eccentricities. There are some aspects of clan life it's simply not a good idea to mess with (like breeding, defense, and diplomacy), but by and large the clan is a diverse and quirky group. Heterodyne's leadership usually involves giving people an objective or job, and then simply letting them do that job in whatever way they see fit- after all, they wouldn't have that job if they didn't know better how to do it than anyone else in the clan.
They conduct themselves in the wider world in a largely impersonal and businesslike way; being their neighbors can be rather unpleasant if you happen to occupy territory they want, as you may wake up one morning to find a politely worded eviction notice and statement of intent to annex your lair or land. Which may be followed up with a visit from a group of utterly humorless Guardians on the front doorstep.
On the whole though, where there isn't a direct conflict of interest they prefer to maintain good relationships- and preferably economic ones, as nothing reduces conflict like strong trading ties. They treat visiting members of other clans they hope to befriend (or are already friends with) with lavish hospitality, like presenting gifts and favorable deals, and especially like cementing long-term relations with children.
Having Astrapi for a friend is something like having a cross between the Manhattan Project and La Cosa Nostra on your side.
