Deep in the Shrieking Wilds lies the home of Magda, a Pearlcatcher that resembles all other Pearlcatchers in all ways but one: her pearl. Due to an unknown force, the pearl oozes with a sickness only she's immune to, a miasma of mutation. All around her, things are coming unraveled: plants splice with animals, strange growths run rampant, and dragons are looking more and more like their familiars every day. Scientists and other experts come from all corners of Sorneith at their own risk to study her and the pearl, but every discovery raises more questions than answers. Tensions rise between the researchers of each flight; when each dragon wants to impress their god, how is there any way to work together? Thus, the secret of Magda's pearl remains just that- a secret.
