@AlphaSobek yep yep, the petal jumpers in particular cover that niche nicely, I had forgotten about them. However I think the mimic octopus has a lot of potential as the base of a more fantastical familiar in the FR style. We have a lot of variations on common animal forms represented in familiars, and while I wouldn’t insist on, for example, more octopus-like familiars just to have them, I would love to see NotN draw on animal mimics that can be found in nature, as opposed to more inanimate objects that are actually alive.
There are other animals, and plants, in that vein as well. Spiders that mimic ants or scorpions or fireflies (because I’m sure people are dying for more spider familiars). Orchids that mimic female bees. Etc etc. Capes and chairs and whatnot are fine, but for an event that focuses on mimicry I feel it’s a great opportunity to showcase nature’s mimics as well.

Worded like that I thought you might not be aware that Fr has already given them too you, lol.
But still, like I said previous I wouldn't mind variations for NoNt. We have the standard Mimic chests from every videogame ever and we've got spooky puppets and statues and a LOT of inanimate objects that might not be so inanimate. So varying it up with animals would work well, I agree.

Heyo everyone, I'm back with a new familiar concept I stumbled upon today! Many people are familiar with the man in the moon idea but have you ever heard of the rabbit in the moon? I hadn't either until I looked it up but apparently different cultures have been telling stories about this guy for a long time. Here is an outline of what people say the rabbit looks like in our moon:

So he disguised himself as an old beggar and went down into the forest. Three animal friends greeted him; a fox, a monkey and a rabbit. He smiled, seeing their generosity but silently pondered which of them would be the most generous. The monkey returned first with an armful of fruit and then the fox returned with a fat fresh fish for the man. However, the rabbit searched all night but could find nothing. Eventually he returned to the man and asked his friends to build a fire. He then confessed to the man that he was unable to find anything for him to eat so he was going to jump into the fire so that the beggar could roast him and not go hungry.
The man in the moon immediately stopped the rabbit and revealed his true self and his purpose to the animals. For the rabbit's kindness, he carried the rabbit back up to the moon with him so that he would always be remembered. The fox and the monkey looked on in wonder as the moon now shown with their friend's likeness. [/i]
There are other versions that explain why the rabbit looks to be grinding with a mortar and pestle. (Basically a similar story, except the moon god was looking for the most trustworthy animal to make godly medicine in the sky.)

Sorry for the large images. That tinted moon one was the best one I found that really showed the rabbit :D Anyway, maybe ya'll can put a Sornieth twist on the idea and come up with a new familiar inspired by the story of the moon rabbit. I think there's definitely some great design surrounding this concept. Hope I've provided some inspiration! ^_^
