It had been 24 moons ago when it happened. The rebellion.
Forestclan was big, with over 80 cats, and the leader, Fallenstar, had taken advantage over this power by convincing the many cats of the clan that Forestclan deserved to control the entire forest and become the supreme rulers of the forest (Fallenstar was so convincing that he got to change the name of the clan to "Forestclan", to symbolize one clan of the forest- the original name of the clan was Oakclan, named after the circle of oaks that enclosed the cats in their territory). This desire to rule the entire woods was not unlike Moonclan's, who wish to take the entire lake to themselves.
However, the situation in old Forestclan was far worse, far more inhospitable than the living conditions of Moonclan. Cats started to change their minds about Forestclan when it was announced that the foodpile was only for use by the cats deemed worthy by Fallenstar- those who followed his every orders and pledged to be loyal to him. They were the most experienced warriors and carried out his commands, often those that any cat with a heart wouldn't want to do. This included going out and hunting for cats outside Forestclan- whether they were of another clan, rogue, or even kittypet, and they were slaughtered for no reason other than not being part of Forestclan. This included sneaking into other clans and kidnapping kits, with the intent to raise them into Forestclan. This included raiding other clans' foodpiles, threatening them that war would come soon. Forestclan was at first seen as an irritating parasite of the forest, but as they grew they became a monstrous menace that the other clans feared.
Those who were not under this umbrella of Fallenstar's were subject to getting little to no food, only enough to keep them alive. And yet, Fallenstar expected them to be strong warriors, not stumbling skeletons of cats!
She-cats were forced under mandatory breeding. And immediately following after birth, the queens were to breed again. Females were not seen as breathing, living beings with emotion, but rather as kit factories, only serving to pump out Fallenstar's strong warriors, kept by strings in his paws like his very own puppets.
But there was one cat that the clans loathed even more than Fallenstar- Talonclaw, the deputy. Fallenstar often did not leave his den, so he sent out Talonclaw most of the time to run his errands and carry out his commands. It is often rumored that Talonclaw wasn't loyal to Fallenstar at all, and feigned a love of him, and it is said that Talonclaw planned to murder him in his sleep so that he would become the new leader of Forestclan. Talonclaw was so ruthless, so devoid of any heart and emotion whatsoever, that the cats of Forestclan considered it a blessing that Talonclaw never went through with it. He slaughtered apprentices who didn't learn quick enough, he slaughtered queens who didn't birth enough kits (and then he slaughtered the kits of those queens). He slaughtered the elders once they became to old to fight, he slaughtered kits who were blind and deaf, he slaughtered the cats that became crippled in one way or another, and sometimes, he slaughtered cats for absolutely no reason at all, if only to amuse himself.
Ravenmoon was the leader of the revolt. It started with her and only a few other cats. The secret spread like wildfire, but the cats of the clan were careful not to spill the beans in front of Fallenstar, Talonclaw, and any of their elites. Every week, 40 fed-up, starving, and weary cats met in secret inside the warrior's den, when the guards were asleep in their own den, planning for the day they would take over and start a new beginning.
They attacked during the night, when Fallenstar, Talonclaw, and the higher warriors were all asleep. They fought back furiously. The soil of Forestclan was painted with blood as warrior by warrior fell, both rebel and elite. There was so much casualty that even if the rebels lost, Forestclan could not go to war with the only clans like they were planning to do. They had lost too many warriors.
But the battle was turning in the rebels' favor as the sun began to rise. When the rebels took down Fallenstar's guards, they were able to break into his den. Fallenstar fought back, but it was no use against the many angry rebels. They killed him once, then twice, then yet again, taking each of his lives one by one. Then, as he died, the rebels found Talonclaw, who was attempting to escape, and caught him.
They injured his leg so that he could not move. Then, they wounded him, but they left him open and bleeding, and waited for him to die on his on, so that Talonclaw could experience the pain that he had given to others during the last moments of his life.
As soon as the rebels thought they would win, the warriors of Forestclan fought one last time. They attacked viciously, targeting the already weakened rebels. They realized that their enemies had been saving up their energy this whole time.
The rebels' numbers dwindled down to only a few, and they knew they could not win. Wounded, they ran far away, and when the Forestclan warriors stopped chasing them, they continued to run, not stopping until they couldn't run any longer. They were starving, wounded, and some died on the way. It seemed at times that they would all die in the wilderness.
Then, they found it. The perfect area- a lake, brimming with fish, it nourished their thirsty bodies. Many different plants and herbs that healed their wounds. Untouched by other cats, the overabundance of prey was theirs.
Little by little, the clan healed. Ravenmoon, the leader of the rebellion, was deemed the leader of the clan, and when Ravenmoon first drank from the lake, Starclan gave her 9 lives, and she became Ravenstar.
This lake became their home, and they became Lakeclan. The clan did not appoint a deputy, because they did not want another Talonclaw. Secretly, Ravenstar did choose a deputy, and did not tell Lakeclan that she did so.
Rogues would come across the clan, and as they were convinced to join, the clan grew and grew, with addition to kits being born.
Only for that number to go down again with the War of Moonclan...
And that number is soon to go down even more, with traitors within the clan working against them. It is unknown what they want, but it may very well be the end of Lakeclan.
