Overview

Long ago, in the early days of dragons, there was another continent. In addition to Sornieth, there was a prosperous kingdom where dragons of all elements lived together and worshiped whatever deity they chose to. They were charged with protecting a great source of magic: the Rift. However, their happiness and fortune was not to last.

Without warning, the Rift wound sunder, shaking their continent to its core. Conflict ensued in the chaos following the disaster. The deities looked upon their subjects on this distant shore and turned away from the failed experiment.

Since then, the Kingdom was forgotten and became lost to the annals of history. Those who stayed in their home were separated from Sornieth as the Rift and the continent both drifted away together. Their bodies, too, slowly changed alongside the volatile magic of the Rift.

These dragons would become something else... Lost Dragons of a Lost Kingdom.
Lore

The Lost Kingdom, as stated above, was once a place of glory and unity for all of dragonkind. Due to its testy location upon a magical place called the Rift, these dragons were eventually punished for their hubris, separating them from those who lived on the continent of Sornieth. The magic changed their bodies over time to better reflect the ever-changing nature of the Rift-- and their magic, as well.

Their history is a storied one, beginning with a line of kings that would melt into a line of queens due to a curse laid upon the male heirs by a jealous princess. Most recently, their monarchy has fallen apart due to a debacle over succession. Their last queen, Kurrazyn, was only able to have a son. This nameless son (MULTIGAZE WARNING) would betray his kingdom and flee, leaving a power vacuum in his wake.
Biology

These dragons are dark, a reflection of the darkness cast over them by the Rift. A universal trait of all Lost Kingdom dragons is that they have mostly black scales with a flash of color representing their elemental alignment. Aside from that, they may vary in breed or a handful of genes, but are generally very similar to their Sornieth counterparts.

Notable of these dragons is their magical affinity. Most, if not all Lost Kingdom dragons, are experts in the arcane arts. Their magic tends to shine the brightest when their soul's element matches the Elemental Mark on their bodies-- the flash of color that is their physical correlation to an element. In addition, these dragons can come in any element under under the sun. This is due to their polytheistic nature, which can randomize birth element unless a specific elemental nest is chosen.
Culture

The Lost Kingdom was, and still is, a matriarchy. The firstborn daughter was usually the one given inheritance due to a superstition on male heirs (re: the jealous princess's curse). Most high ranks or prestigious positions are held by females in this land, leading to a preference for female children for the sake of attaining familial glory. However, that is not to say male dragons do not have their place here in the Lost Kingdom. Oftentimes, since female dragons are expected to fill certain roles, male dragons are allowed an exceptional freedom in their chose of profession. Many choose to become magical scholars, explorers, or warriors for their Kingdom.

As for the rest of their culture, a majority of Lost Kingdom dragons are polytheistic. They worship multiple deities or every deity equally, believing each element to bring its own individual boon to their families. Some may favor one over another when it comes to nesting, but these choices hardly ever lead to conflict among their kind. Those that leave (the act of which is heavily frowned upon) for Sornieth often experience a deep culture shock for the sharply divided elemental clans they find themselves in the midst of.
Plot
(added 7/28/19)

Currently, a veritable war is on the verge of coming to fruition. It's been brewing in the years since Kurrazyn's murder by her own nameless son, but everyone's been trying to avoid it for the sake of peace. Within the shadows, a deadly political dance is taking place.

Cousins of the Nameless Prince have risen from the woodwork to try for the crown. However, it isn't only direct relatives. Noble houses of the land are also placing bets on the turning tide.

The Lost Dragons
The dragons born and raised in the Lost Kingdom. Normally, they stay where they are born and can be just about any element.

Variants

Lost Dragons
A general term for a Lost Kingdom subject, this is the most basic grouping for any member of this subsection of dragonkind. Their bodies are largely black with some Elemental Mark, a flash of color, on their bodies. When the Elemental Mark matches the eyes of a dragon, their magic is at its absolute strongest. Otherwise, their biology is eerily similar to Sornieth dragons.

High Obscured
Imperial favored, large breeds | XXY, Metallic, Starmap, Crystal /Alloy, Bee, Constellation, Facet/Opal, Obsidian/Obsidian/Any Color
High Obscured is the term for dragons who are 'simply above the rest' in terms of their lineage. The Royal Family is exclusively made up of these, but there are other noble families within this. They are black all over with distinctive flashes of elemental patterns on them. Typically, they are Imperial or other large breeds that match this description.

Vanished Commoner
Any Breed | XYX, Starmap, Metallic /Bee, Alloy, Constellation/Crackle, Obsidian/Any Color/Obsidian
Most Lost Kingdom dragons are commoners, the most widespread of the Rift's touch upon their people. They are generally less powerful than High Obscured, but just as plentiful. While the High Obscured thrive on their blood lineage, the Vanished Commoner thrive on their ingenuity and social mobility. It is wholly possibly for a Vanished Commoner to ascend to nobility status, although they generally do not have the same powers as their born-noble counterparts.

Forgotten Gaolers
Gaoler | XYX, Wasp / Bee, Facet / Runes, Obsidian/Any Color/Obsidian
The Gaolers were never confined to Sornieth, as time would reveal. Rather than be hidden in the Lost Kingdom, they became commonplace among the citizens of that forsaken place. Commonly, they would serve as prison guards, soldiers, and keepers of things that needed to be kept. They share some roots with their original Gaoler culture, such as preferring subterranean homes and prisons for their wards.
