Lore
The Lost Kingdom, as stated above, was once a place of glory and unity for all of dragonkind. Due to its testy location upon a magical place called the Rift, these dragons were eventually punished for their hubris, separating them from those who lived on the continent of Sornieth. The magic changed their bodies over time to better reflect the ever-changing nature of the Rift-- and their magic, as well.
Their history is a storied one, beginning with a line of kings that would melt into a line of queens due to a curse laid upon the male heirs by a jealous princess. Most recently, their monarchy has fallen apart due to a debacle over succession. Their last queen, Kurrazyn, was only able to have a son. This
nameless son (MULTIGAZE WARNING) would betray his kingdom and flee, leaving a power vacuum in his wake.
Biology
These dragons are dark, a reflection of the darkness cast over them by the Rift. A universal trait of all Lost Kingdom dragons is that they have mostly black scales with a flash of color representing their elemental alignment. Aside from that, they may vary in breed or a handful of genes, but are generally very similar to their Sornieth counterparts.
Notable of these dragons is their magical affinity. Most, if not all Lost Kingdom dragons, are experts in the arcane arts. Their magic tends to shine the brightest when their soul's element matches the Elemental Mark on their bodies-- the flash of color that is their physical correlation to an element. In addition, these dragons can come in any element under under the sun. This is due to their polytheistic nature, which can randomize birth element unless a specific elemental nest is chosen.
Culture
The Lost Kingdom was, and still is, a matriarchy. The firstborn daughter was usually the one given inheritance due to a superstition on male heirs (re: the jealous princess's curse). Most high ranks or prestigious positions are held by females in this land, leading to a preference for female children for the sake of attaining familial glory. However, that is not to say male dragons do not have their place here in the Lost Kingdom. Oftentimes, since female dragons are expected to fill certain roles, male dragons are allowed an exceptional freedom in their chose of profession. Many choose to become magical scholars, explorers, or warriors for their Kingdom.
As for the rest of their culture, a majority of Lost Kingdom dragons are polytheistic. They worship multiple deities or every deity equally, believing each element to bring its own individual boon to their families. Some may favor one over another when it comes to nesting, but these choices hardly ever lead to conflict among their kind. Those that leave (the act of which is heavily frowned upon) for Sornieth often experience a deep culture shock for the sharply divided elemental clans they find themselves in the midst of.
