'the sound of wooden boards creaking underfoot. when you're at a party or reunion at someone's house, settling down to sleep and can hear a large group of friends still talking - the muffled sound of laughter, or maybe music. when you splash your face with cool water after doing something too-hot, the rush of alertness that suddenly overcomes you, and the way the weariness just rolls off your shoulders.'

he seems a little more uncertain about this one, not being able to tell much about them. still, he's speaking. 'tearing just-fallen leaves in half, the way they go neatly along the clorophyll veins, and the green stains and smell of sunlight they leave on your hands. biting into your fourth apple at the orchard, when your hands are already sticky, but it still bursts in your mouth like that. sunlight on your back, and a breeze on your face.'

there's a smile breaking over his face now. 'i like your colors!' it's said enthusiastically. 'you're - the type of songs you'll say are bad, and are a little bit bad sometimes, but everyone'll immediately scream or sing along to, no matter who they are. candy that's so blue it leaves your mouth that color for HOURS, and even stains your teeth. cracking glowsticks, and almost being able to feel them light up, and wearing too many of them at once. the fuzzy feeling soda leaves on your teeth when you drink too much at once.'

the small skydancer has to sit back on his haunches to look up at her - it's a bit harder to tell, with his faceted eyes and eternally curious expression, but you think his eyes might be wide. 'like - eye drops, when you put them in, how they burn at first but feel better after you blink a lot. feeling your way down the stairs in the dark, how even when you know the place, you can miss a step or fall easily. the smell of pomegranites, and the way they stain your hands. sparkling cider, and the bit of a burn it leaves in your throat.'

'house cleaning,' axis says eventually. 'but not in a bad way - like, opening the attic or rooms you never go in anymore, and seeing the dust gently lift off of everything and swirl in the sunlight. dark-light grey, like the color of thunderclouds rolling in, solemn and cool to the touch. a mourning song, something you'd sing at a funeral or for a friend long-dead you were suddenly reminded of.'
