He and his partner, Alil, were taking all of you to the labratory but the trip included a long hike. They had encouraged you to collect a few specimens of minerals or plant matter, and now your pockets were filled to the seam with Gods only know what. There are a few key points to know about the subspecies - they had a genetic mutation, were both dragon and plant in one, and that the history is nothing short of an alchemical wonder. Only mutants, or members of beastclans, would be allowed directly into the lab, though just about anyone would be given a tour. As mentioned, this is a genetic mutation we are working with. The exact source is being studied though we believe it's some form of alchemy that took place after the Beastclan Attack. For those of you that don't know, the Beastclans got pretty fed up with dragons. Always going to their territory and wreaking havoc, stealing their items, and so on. So, several of the Beastclans decided to fight back in a different way, one that dragons wouldn't see until it was too late. They began to poison the ecosystem around us, starting in the water, which in turn infected the soil, air, all plant matter, and later on the dragons. What ended up happening though is everything became infected, to the point where the Beastclans made themselves ill too. This is when they stopped their attack, and we had a chance to develop a plan to clean up the area. Plants are great at purification, though it can be quite difficult and take a long time with only the best of care. The other flaw in the Beastclans attack was that what they spread was more of a virus, and would eventually lay dormant or end up dying off due to conditions that didn't host it very well either. Today, most of the areas here are safe, and every part of the foodchain is healthy again. There will be a few areas that no one is allowed to visit, though one day we will have the resources to study it. It's possible that it's the only place that holds the secret to the mutation." "Now what happened to Anq'il, and his younger clone Anmin, is that a Beastclan had a final attack against us, hoping to ruin our last efforts to clean up. They quite literally tore Anq'ils previous body, a regular dragon, apart. We were able to save our studies and labratory at his own will to sacrifice himself. The next part is very tricky. Anq'il was buried, and I visited his grave every day" She was tearing up just a bit, but managed to keep her voice steady "eventually, plants began to grow where he laid. They were ones I'd never seen before, vibrant green, thick, and kind of velvety due to being new. I scooped them up, out of grief I suppose. All I could figure was they were some form of succulent but they seemed extra reactive to too much water or sun. About a month later I had to leave my clan for a research trip. I returned another month after, and came home to Anq'il, but he was the size of a hatchling and weird colors. His skin had become striped, and he had a gel upon his chest and underbelly. My clan was elated to show me him, but he didn't have much recollection of me. All of his memories from before are basically gone, only a few are available but they're fuzzy. He, a theory by my clan that became proven, was born from one of the plants I had scooped up. The others were dormant, for quite some time. Today they are still regular plants, and only one other mutated to a dragon as well." This mutation can happen due to exposure, but is most common through genetics. An Aloe dragon will hatch other Aloe dragons. Each Aloe dragon is a different percentage of dragon. What we do know is that this an incredibly unique type of dragon, with a lot of research to be done. We await your help. We will be passing around a Study File for all of you to read! We are constantly researching the mutation. Anq'il has a younger brother, his mini me Anmin, that developed about half a year after he did, from one of the plants that Anq'il's body grew. Whether or not the other plants will mutate is unknown, but we believe it's not likely. Since then, Anq'il has had offspring, and most have been a huge help in the studies. Other dragons unrelated to him have shown up too though, and we are learning about how they've developed. [/columns] ----- [font=garamond][size=5]Health[/size][/font] [columns] An Aloe Vera dragons health can be monitored through their coloration. Dragons with a medium green Primary and Secondary with a lighter colored Tertiary are considered extremely healthy and in prime condition. Dragons with coloration similar to Anq'il (note the dull deep green Primary and dark colored Tertiary), especially when they have Capsule tertiary, are often a bit more sickly, and will be more sensitive to water. The [u]Primary[/u] of a dragon represents the skin of the Aloe Vera plant. Most Aloe dragons actually have two skins, the one that is displayed is plant matter, and the one a couple inches below is their "real" skin. A clean cut to the upper skin of an Aloe dragon doesn't do anything, and a gel can be found below. The [u]Secondary[/u] will represent more of the Skin or the Gel of the Aloe dragon. So far, only Bee is definitely Gel, and Alloy or Shimmer can be either Gel or Skin depending on the dragon. The [u]Tertiary[/u] is the Gel, and shows different abilities or personalities the dragon may have. Some Aloe dragons will come with their abilities and health displayed as such. This bar will be set by their breeder/handler (if that person so chooses) based on the facts above and below regarding variations. More research is being put into whether the Primary, Secondary, or Breed the Aloe displays is dependant on abilities. Capsule: Capsule dragons are most easy to monitor, and they tend to be some of the most studied in the subspecies when the focus is how to take care of the dragons plant matter. They are often patient but a bit grumpy, soft once you get to know them. Opal: Opal dragons have some of the best healing powers and are some of the most giving. The Opal gene happens when they have cut open their upper leaf-skin and harvested their Gel to help heal. As the cuts heal they will lose their Opalization, but due to their naturally giving nature they will always open a different section and develop an Opal there. Spined: These are the most protective and dangerous. They are warm to their own clans but are otherwise a bit touchy. They're perfect if you need someone to keep danger from your clan, and they are natural fighters. Stained: They wear their heart on their sleeve, so to say. Stained dragons can come with a variety of talents, they are often soft but not weak - being soft is where the strength comes from. They may be a bit emotional but never over the top. Stained Aloes are great at hiding out and emerging the second they are needed to help. [/columns] ----- [font=garamond][size=5]Reproduction[/size][/font] [columns] Reproduction in Aloe dragons is quite...something. Some Aloes have reproductive abilities like other normal dragons, but not all of them do. In fact, Aloes mostly reproduce through their own fallen roots. The Aloe dragon has gecko-like feet, with tons of roots springing from them. When a root falls, the root is often able to develop into a plant. The plant will appear to be a regular Aloe plant until a nub develops at the base of it, and the leaf begins to wilt off. Slowly, a dragon will develop in this nub and use the nutrients from the leaf. By the point it's ready to be "hatched" in normal dragon terms, the leaf is completely wilted off. Aloe Pups are quite difficult to monitor because the plant absolutely can't leave the dirt, so whether or not you have a Dragon Pup or a Regular Plant Pup is unknown until there's a hatchling randomly running around your nursery. Many Aloe dragons will harvest their own roots, to ensure a certain amount of Aloes are created within a specific amount of time. Most roots turn to plants, and not all plants turn to Dragons. The exact conditions are currently unknown. While an Aloe dragon doesn't need a mate to reproduce, they will most often choose a mate to ensure the best care is provided to the potentional offspring. Scroll to the bottom to find previews and codes. ----- [center][size=4] How to become an Official Producer [/size][/center] Official Producers (OP) are breeders who are able to produce eligible dragons for the subspecies on a somewhat regular basis. They do not breed for the subspecies, but their pair fits into the requirements and therefore they have a link here. They are still their own individual breeder with their own regulations, but they can use this space for advertising as they are helping us grow the species. OPs must be approved before claiming to be an OP, but they can certainly advertise that some of their hatchlings are eligible to register to the subspecies. Think of this as a yellowpages, to connect the species to breeders and to buyers. OPs do not provide any money to the subspecies. These are still your dragons and yours only, so it is your choice when and where you will breed them. Even if your pair is Official, each individual hatchling must fit the requirements to register or they are not eligible to the subspecies. For example, colors, species, and flights are perfect but your pair produced a Runes gene. This means that the individual Runes dragon is not eligible, but the rest of the nest may be. It is up to buyer discretion who they choose to buy from, and they will need to contact you specifically (though we don't mind passing along confused pings if they @ us instead!). It is a producers decision if they will automatically register eligible hatchlings or not. You may tell a buyer that the dragon can be registered and send a link here (if you want to even mention the subspecies), or you can go ahead and register them as they hatch.
