Welcome! Venomspitters are an all-flight, all-breed subspecies, started out of a little spot of imagination regarding just how dragons manage to survive in the harshest of conditions. Although they are only new as a subspecies, I hope that nonetheless you enjoy your stay in this thread. And who knows - your ranks might soon welcome one of the Venomspitters themselves!

In the depths of the Gladekeeper’s domain, there once lived a tribe of dragons. The unforgiving jungle they lived in became their ally, rather than their enemy, for these dragons had developed a certain ability for just that.

Other dragons call them Venomspitters, for that is their preferred hunting method. They are dragons who not only have honed their bodies into a full immunity to poison, but the capability to store it as if it were nothing - to survive the venoms of their habitat, they themselves have become it.

They are like sponges: be it a particularly toxic plant or the defense mechanism of the local wildlife, Venomspitters will suck it all away to take it for themselves, leaving that around them a little weaker, and themselves - a little stronger.

It is due to this capability that the original Venomspitter tribe has survived so well, and perhaps it is for the same reason that the Venomspitters are no longer limited to their original homeland. Descendants of the tribe have found their way across all of Sornieth, passing down their strange ability, then doing what they do best: survive.

Having spread out so far, it is only natural that Venomspitters would eventually begin to develop certain differences. There are two aspects that might determine what type of Venomspitter a dragon is: the primary and secondary color, and the tertiary gene.

Breed Requirements

Venomspitters are an all-breed subspecies, and therefore have no breed requirement whatsoever.
Because of their origin in the Viridian Labyrinth, the majority of the original tribe consisted of Wildclaws; however, now that they have spread out, any breed may be a Venomspitter.

Flight Requirements

Venomspitters are an all-flight subspecies, and therefore have no flight requirement whatsoever.
However, among the two variants, it happens to be so that different flights will have one predominant variant over the other, owing to the differences in climate, wildlife and landscape. This is divided as follows:
  • Day Venomspitters are more common in Light, Wind, Arcane and Water.
  • Night Venomspitters are more common in Plague, Ice and Lightning.
  • Both are equally common in Nature, Fire, Earth and Shadow.
This is, of course, not a strict guideline whatsoever, and any variant may be of any flight.

Gene and Color Requirements

Venomspitters have somewhat strict gene and breed requirements, although the subspecies was also made with the intention of not being too difficult to obtain. There are two aspects in which a Venomspitter might be part of a variant: primary and secondary color, and tertiary gene.

The general requirements are as follows:

Primary:
  • Exclusively Poison.
  • Either White or Obsidian.
  • Must be the same as the secondary color.
Secondary:
  • Exclusively Toxin.
  • Either White or Obsidian.
  • Must be the same as the primary color.
Tertiary:
  • Either Smirch or Crackle.
  • Any color except those in the Antique-Midnight range.

For Day Venomspitters, the primary and secondary color must be White.
For Night Venomspitters, the primary and secondary color must be Obsidian.
For Leaking Venomspitters, the tertiary must be Crackle.
