These dragons come in different shapes and sizes, colours and alignments but they all share the same traits! The secret to their alluring appearance is that these dragons had lived within the mountain for many, many centuries, hiding away from the world that had threatened them. Their previously dull hide began to crystallize due to the atmospheric pressure pressing down on them. As time passed on, their scales were shining and some cracked to reveal new, vibrant scales. The dragons left the home of their mountain when it was destroyed by an earthquake. It was then they discovered their mortal enemies had perished. They reemerged to join their brethren - the ones who had remained above ground - and their differences became even more apparent. The Opalites, the name they gave themselves, brought with them a new age of parties and glamour, new riches and traditions. They also are very vain, in their beauty and rareness, but try their best to be nice and good company. There are different smaller courts, dragons that look alike cluster together and if their eye colour matches their own colour scheme, the more attractive they are to the opalites around them. [b]Breeds:[/b] All dragons are welcomed into the Court, however Snappers are better suited to the Court's whimsical eye as they find their opals to be very attractive. The more opals they can see, the more they enjoy. There are two main courts; Carbonized Opalites and Fire Forge Opalites. They differ slightly but follow the same colour range. Their numbers were plummeting as their enemies hunted their young and old, for their own means; for food and for materials to make sturdy armour and weapons in order to battle amongst their rical brethren and conquering lands. Their scales were used to make armour, their bones fashioned into necklaces and blades while their flesh and organs were harvested for food. The dragons could not afford to fight the Beast Clan, their abled warriors fell more often than not and as a desperate attempt to escape the slaughter the remaining dragons fled into the mountain but the Beast Clan pursued them, relentlessly. They took to burrowing deep into the mountain, but still their enemies followed. To stop them, they chose to barricade the only exit and fled further into the mountain, making sure that they were far, far away from those barbarians. [center][size= 5][i]When one became two[/size][/i][/center] [size= 4]T[/size]heir ancestors were led by a wise elder and he believed that her clan had travelled far enough within the mountain. It was difficult to see inside the caverns they called their homes, the only light within was from the glow of the moss that lined the walls and rocks. She set about delegating roles to her clanmates, giving them tasks to clear out rocks to make nests and collect moss to lighten up the place. Her small clan of survivors were weary and tired and did as they were told. They believed in her and her decisions. However, her grandson was most resistant. He stated that they needed to go in deeper, to get further away from their enemies but the wise dragoness did not agree. They had travelled far enough and this was the ideal spot to make their home. The younger dragon declared that he was going further, he wanted to be [i]absolutely[/i] sure that the Beast Clan would not get to him. He turned to their barely surviving clan and tried to appeal to them that they should follow him, to safety. Most of the older dragons did not support his brash defiance and disrespect of their clan leader however some of the younger dragons decided that they weren't far enough away. The clan splintered into two; much to the heavy heart of the elder. She allowed him to continue for she could not stop him due to her frail, old body and she needed to be at her best to keep her clan safe. When her grandson and his followers were about to leave, she told him that they were most welcome to come back if they ever needed to. He stated that if they ever needed any help, find them deeper within the mountain and join them. And hence, one became two. [center][size= 5][i]The passage of time wrought change[/size][/i][/center] [size= 4]T[/size]ime marched forward and the two clans made their homes within the mountain. The elder's clan flourished in their new environment, welcoming new hatchlings and making new caverns and passages to compensate for their slowly growing numbers. The grandson's clan had travelled deeper into the mountain and they found an underground lava river. It was here that they made their home, close to the roiling heat and light. They too welcomed new hatchlings into their clan, their numbers growing rapidly. As the years went by, the dragons flourish and thrived in their new dark homes. The clans lived and grew old, some died when their time came and more hatchlings were born and grew up. As more time passed, the clans noticed many changes in their offspring. Those in the caverns noticed that their young had scales much harder than their own and sparkled in the dim moss glow. It was around the same time that a new trait became known. Patches of their scales shone like moonstones and gems, much to the astonishment and awe of their elders. They were aptly renamed gemlings instead of hatchlings. While those by the lava river noticed that their scales had become smoother, harder and resilient due to the heat of their environment. There were patches of stone growing and spreading in their scales making them appreciate the different contrasting colours of their bodies. This change affected the older dragons as well and was not borne through the new generations. Two clans living within the mountain changed to suit their different environments; one clan became like diamonds, shiny and impenetrable, while the other became like blades, sharp and strong. [center][size= 5][i]The birth of a new age[/size][/i][/center] [size= 4]T[/size]hen something happened. The mountain shook, causing panic and chaos as the dragons did not understand what was happening. Caverns collapsed and the lava river surged to high levels, destruction was around them. The clans fled. They rushed upwards, and they took flight from the mountain. They had not realised their actions until much the group stopped shaking and the mountain they had lived in for centuries crumbled before their very eyes. They were shocked. The only home they had ever known was gone and, more frightening, was the fact that they were above ground. The two clans reunited under the pale sky, their eyes unaccustomed to the bright light of the sun. How were they to thrive above ground? Where were their dreadful enemies from long ago? Were they still among the living? So many questions and none they could answer so, each clan sent their fastest and strongest warrior to scout the foreign land. They were gone for a day and night, and arrived at dawn on the third day since the loss of their home. They came bearing good news. The Beast Clan that had terrorised their forefathers were gone, and had been for a long time, wiped out by their insatiable greed and bloodlust. And, there were many dragon clans within the area; civilizations and potential to start again.
