Atlas is not the best dragon. In fact, he used to be a gambler. He had only made efforts to quit after he ended up owing 30kt to a richer, well-known merchant in the Hewn City. Four months in and he has only payed in 13kt. The dragon he owes the money to, Lorne, is only getting more aggressive and furious. Now, his and his apprentice's lives are at stake.
It was a normal day for the merchants Atlas and Genbu. They were making their way from the Mirrorlight Promenade's trading post to the Hewn City's. After that, they'd head for home. Atlas couldn't wait to be able to sleep in his own nest again. Genbu was sitting on top of the cart instead of inside it and tallying their wares like Atlas told her to, but he didn't really care. He just wanted to get home. "Atlas!" Genbu exclaimed. She had become comfortable enough to call him by his name rather than sir, which brought a bit of happiness to the Spiral's heart. "I think that's the trading post over there!" Atlas squinted his eyes. She was right! Beyond the crumbled marble buildings and tall, tall trees was the trading post in the distance. The Spiral held the reigns of the rambra pulling the cart tightly in his claws. As much as he couldn't wait to get home, he was hoping that there were a few dragons he wouldn't have to see while they visited the Hewn City's trading post. [item=rambra][item=teardrop pastel spinel pendant][item=rambra] Atlas finished tying the rambra to a stake he had put into the ground as Genbu set out some of their wares onto a table she had fished out of the cart. "There. Nice job, Genbu." Atlas smiled at the Fae. "Yeah, thanks! Random thought here..." Genbu nervously shook her starry wings. "Why did we set up on the edge of the trading post?" "Uh..." Atlas' mind went blank. He couldn't think of anything to say that wouldn't give him away. "You know what? Genbu, can you stay here and watch the cart while I go and check out what other merchants are selling?" Genbu frowned and her crest drooped. "Oh. Alright then." She went to sit at the table she had set up. "This will be quick. Hang tight." Atlas called as he flew towards the center of the trading post. He meant what he had said. [item=Waterlogged Trunk][item=Glowing Pocket Bauble][item=Feather Pouch] While the Hewn City itself was dilapidated and very sad-looking, the trading post was actually quite well put together and considerably lively. It was just a look though. Most of the dragons here were worse than the other dragons at other trading posts. Atlas traipsed carefully along the darker parts of the trading post. He owed big treasure to another merchant. Specifically seventeen thousand treasure. If he was here, then Atlas would have to try to leave as soon as possible. He had already made the mistake of tying down the rambra and setting up shop. Atlas turned a corner and his stomach dropped. Oh, by the Lightweaver. No. His cart was there! However, his creditor was nowhere to be found. He must be looking for him or worse... Genbu. The Spiral winged into the air, his mind racing with thoughts spawned by his anxiety. Where was he? They were going to rob him of his wares and apprentice. Maybe they wanted to get back at him, so they'd take her life. He was about to throw up when he crashed onto the ground in front of his cart. Much to his dismay, neither Genbu or his wares were there. Quickly rising to his feet, Atlas quickly glanced around. "Genbu! Genbu, where are you?!" He called into the night sky. "Genbu!? GENBU!" There came no response to Atlas' desperate pleas for help. None but the blow to his head. [item=canvas sack][item=broken penny jar][item=champion's purse] Atlas woke up with his head pounding. He tried to lift himself up from the floor, but realized that his hands were tied together. He began to struggle, wriggling as though he was a worm. Suddenly he heard a door open and saw... him. Lorne, the merchant he owed money to.
Perfect in every way. He is cunning, he is smart, he is sly. Messing with Lorne usually ends in death by either him or his goons. Name: Lorne Breed: Mirror Gender: Male Other Information: Lorne pays dragons to carry out his dirty work.
"Oh!" Lorne grinned. He was holding a small lantern. It was enough to light up the room enough so Atlas could see his mocking face in full. "If it isn't our Atlas." "I..." Atlas gulped, but was able to meet the mirror's eyes. "Where's Genbu?" "Is that the name of the fae? She's right here." Lorne snapped his claws, and a minion of his brought down Genbu. Atlas wanted to cry. Her yellow apparel was torn in most places and she was unconscious. She had claw marks on her legs and face. The usual sparkle in her starry wings was now dull. "Please. Just... Just let us go." Atlas pleaded with him, unable to hide his dread no longer. "You wouldn't be here if you had just paid up, love. However... I'm willing to cut you some slack and make you a deal." Lorne smiled. Atlas took one glance at his bloodied apprentice and nodded. "Yes. Anything." "It seems pretty damn obvious that you can't afford to pay up yourself. So you're going to have to steal from your own clan's hoard." Upon seeing the look of uncertainty on the spiral's face, the mirror continued. "I know for a fact that you live with the Lavaburst Clan. I also know that they are not poor, love." "Do I have any other-" Atlas started, but was quickly interrupted. "No. It's your clan's treasure or her life." Lorne spoke sternly, his sharp teeth bared. "Do we have a deal, Atlas?" Atlas nodded, which caused Lorne's snout to curl up in a triumphant smile. "Wonderful. You will meet us in the Hewn City's trading post every two months with at least 5kt treasure. Do not tell anyone or she dies. It's quite easy, really. We'll be on good terms in no time!" He smiled down at Atlas and snapped his claws, causing a minion of his to approach him. "Good luck." The spiral heard before large paws crashed on the back of his head. His vision would once again fade to black. [item=canvas sack][item=broken penny jar][item=champion's purse] Atlas jolted awake. He rubbed his head, the throbbing rendering him almost unable to move. He groaned and curled around something. The spiral noticed that he was being jostled around. He opened his eyes and glanced around. He was... in his cart? And it was moving? He sat up and looked forward to where the driver would be. A purple fae with starry wings was driving the cart. Genbu! She was okay! Atlas heaved a heavy sigh of relief that ended with him coughing. It caught her attention and she turned her head around to look at him. "Genbu! You're alright." Atlas managed a smile. Genbu's eyes were watery as though she was hiding tears and her expression was confused and troubled. The reigns she was using to maneuver the rambra shook in her trembling claws. From this angle, Atlas could see the scars on her face. They were on her cheeks and parts of her crests. Of course. Atlas realized that she was probably scarred from the whole situation. "What did they do to you?" Atlas asked, his large eyes expressing his concern. Genbu's voice came out small and hushed. "I tried to fight them off... I tried to fight them off, but I couldn't...." She looked away to the path, her crest drooping. "Who were those dragons?" Atlas looked down. "I... No, I don't want to lie anymore." he shook his head. "I owe... I owe some treasure to them." Genbu was quiet for a moment and her tail had begun to shake in agitation. A dragon like her would not care for gamblers. "How much is some treasure?" she spoke as though her teeth were gritted and that she was trying to conceal anger. "Seventeen thousand treasure," Atlas muttered. He nervously swiped at the cart's floor. "I... We'll... We'll think of something.." Genbu sighed, her voice returning to its prior shakiness. "When we get back, we'll restock triple our usual and sell for higher prices. I don't know." Atlas looked at her, his big eyes even wider with shock. "You're going to help me?" "Of course. I mean, you're my mentor. Everything I know I know it from you..." Genbu spoke softly. She sounded like she meant what she had said. Atlas felt himself tearing up a little and dabbed at his eye with a paw. "Genbu... Thank you." he smiled, though the Fae would not be able to see. He felt like he didn't deserve this. "Just, please... Promise me one thing." Genbu's tail had begun to flick, as though she was anxious. "No more secrets?" There was a pause, a sigh, and then- "No more secrets, Genbu."

Atlas, a merchant, and his apprentice, Genbu.

"I think that's the trading post over there!"

Atlas squinted his eyes.

Atlas finished tying the rambra to a stake he had put into the ground as Genbu set out some of their wares onto a table she had fished out of the cart.

"There. Nice job, Genbu." Atlas smiled at the Fae.

"Yeah, thanks! Random thought here..." Genbu nervously shook her starry wings. "Why did we set up on the edge of the trading post?"

"Uh..." Atlas' mind went blank. He couldn't think of anything to say that wouldn't give him away. "You know what? Genbu, can you stay here and watch the cart while I go and check out what other merchants are selling?"

Genbu frowned and her crest drooped. "Oh. Alright then." She went to sit at the table she had set up.

"This will be quick. Hang tight." Atlas called as he flew towards the center of the trading post. He meant what he had said.

While the Hewn City itself was dilapidated and very sad-looking, the trading post was actually quite well put together and considerably lively.

"Genbu!? GENBU!"

There came no response to Atlas' desperate pleas for help. None but the blow to his head.

Atlas woke up with his head pounding. He tried to lift himself up from the floor, but realized that his hands were tied together. He began to struggle, wriggling as though he was a worm.

Suddenly he heard a door open and saw... him. Lorne, the merchant he owed money to.

"Oh!" Lorne grinned. He was holding a small lantern. It was enough to light up the room enough so Atlas could see his mocking face in full. "If it isn't our Atlas."

"I..." Atlas gulped, but was able to meet the mirror's eyes. "Where's Genbu?"

"Is that the name of the fae? She's right here." Lorne snapped his claws, and a minion of his brought down Genbu.

He sat beside him, the smoke that made up his wings and crest stirred by his movements. "You disappeared during our little ceremony. It was all for you, you know," Favian turned to look at Ozias, but the Coatl's eyes were all for the water-worn rocks. "Apologies. The attention was... unbearable." Ozias admitted, which caused his face to flush. Embarrassed by the spotlight, was he? How silly... and even more so to admit it to Favian. The Bogsneak was known for being cold and merciless, after all. "Figured. You're kinda quiet. You scared the absolute shit out of Xenia though. Actually, no, that's an understatement. "So, how's it feel to be one of us, huh? A Sunforge mercenary, a ruthless dragon who kills for treasure?" "W-We're not ruthless! We're more or less, er, paid vigilantes? The Sunforge isn't driven by rewards." Ozias drew his conclusion from the fact that most of their missions seemed to consist of rescues and eliminating local threats. "Speak for yourself. If someone offered me a million to kill you, I'd prolly just do it. Don't get me wrong, Ozzy. We love you, but it's tempting." Favian joked with a wink. "Hm, you speak as though you think you'd succeed." He frowned for a moment, but shook his head and chuckled. "Alright- actually, I've been meaning to ask you about something. Why didn't the Sunforge have a medic before me? The lot of you aren't exactly the cautious or careful type." A hint of remorse seemed to appear on Favian's face, but it was so brief that one might deem it a trick of the light. "Mean quip aside, there was a reason that job was open. Look, since you're stuck with us for a while, I'll tell you this. We did have one before. His name was Araqiel." Favian's demeanor was never broken, even as he went on. "Araqiel... He practiced healing and wind magic. And damn, was he good at it. He, Xenia, Cayenne, and I all came from the same clan. Well, when we made a plan to run away, he sold us out. We almost died." Ozias' eyes were wide and his expression was sheepish. It was clear he regretted asking. "I... Er, I didn't mean..." He cleared his throat. "Well, if he ever visits the city, let me know. He won't be coming out alive." Favian grinned, malice and excitement glinting in his red eyes. "A threat from our sweet, little Ozias? How... rare. I like it." The Bogsneak laughed, standing up. "Glad to have this talk. Feel like I know you better now." Ozias looked taken aback. Such a turn of phrase was unheard of when it came from Favian. However, he'd be lying if he said he wasn't flattered. "Y-Yes, I agree." Favian began to walk off into the forest in the direction of the city. "Come on then, Ozzy. The celebration technically isn't over until everyone has passed out. Also, I bet they're all worried about you." The Bogsneak walked off, his ashes wavering in the wind. "Congratulations, by the way." He called. Ozias' face was still warm. Kind words seldom graced his ears and he was glad to have been complimented by the Sunforge's tracker. In fact, he was glad to know the Sunforge itself. His mind was so busy buzzing with joys that he hardly heard the bushes rustling underneath him. Someone had been watching.

The creek glimmered as the sun shone upon it. A wind ran through the yellow pines of the Sunbeam Ruins, making them sway ever so slightly in the breeze.

Ozias dipped his claw in the water, causing a ripple. He ran his claw over a stone in the creek, admiring how the sun shone upon it. How beautiful the world was... and how lucky he was to be able to protect it.

He hadn't expected Fernwhisper to have a roommate, but such information was irrelevant to his problem. "Not now, Angel," Fernwhisper interjected. "Sorry, but can you please... take a walk? Ozias wants to talk to me." Something in the way Fernwhisper said "talk" caused Angel to frown. Ozias didn't take it personally. "Um... Sure! I'll go pick up that necklace you wanted." Angel looked at Ozias one more time, the wariness clearly visible in his ruby-red eyes, before leaving his book and walking out the main door. The two were alone now. Fernwhisper turned to Ozias and gestured for him to take a seat. The two sat about a foot apart. "Now... What do you require of me, mercenary? I hope you aren't here to kill me." Fernwhisper laughed at his own joke, though those emerald eyes of his bored into Ozias' eyes. It was as if he was trying to read him. "No. If I wanted you dead, I would have killed you by the lake." Ozias smiled, though inside he was feeling the slightest bit squeamish. However, his calm demeanor never faded. Fernwhisper gulped. The green Coatl's eyes had now shifted away onto the floor out of shame. "I... You're probably here to inquire about Araqiel, aren't you?" Fernwhisper sighed. When Ozias' gaze remained unwavering, he continued. "I didn't know him, but I did meet him. I meet a lot of dragons... being a traveling scholar and all!" "Tell me everything you can about him." Ozias bared his teeth. He was in no mood to play games. "Alright, alright! He leads a group of dragons, mostly Wildclaws... They lived in the Everbloom Gardens, I think. Last time I saw them, not only did I meet him, they tried to take everything I had. It was thrilling." Fernwhisper's eyes were narrowed, his eyes snake-like slits. "Is hat good enough for you or are you going to waste more of my time?" "That'll be... That'll be all. Thank you for having me, Fernwhisper." Ozias stood up, wary. The way Fernwhisper said that... His tone changed so fast, it was strange. He felt like he had to leave. As the door shut, Fernwhisper waited patiently for a brief moment. The same door opened again and Angel had returned to him. Angel zoomed to his friend's side. "Are you okay? Did he try to hurt you?" his eyes were round with concern. "No. I'm fine. It's a shame I couldn't tell him though. He looked a little bit desperate." Fernwhisper shrugged. "I'm just a little bit worried, that's all." Angel still looked disgruntled even though Fernwhisper had just assured him that he was okay. "I just hope he doesn't go after him."

I meet a lot of dragons... being a traveling scholar and all!"

"Tell me everything you can about him." Ozias bared his teeth.

"Is hat good enough for you or are you going to waste more of my time?"

"That'll be...

Wolfsong and Peacock
Light Pearlcatcher Female and Arcane Nocturne Male
Spies

Wolfsong and Peacock embarked on the seventh of the Month of Rockbreaker's to spy on an enemy clan, the Land's Permafrost, under Maeve's, the spymaster, orders.

They never returned.

After being nursed back to health after being wracked with illness, Alibi, their former partner, journeyed to the Permafrost. He told Maeve that he had found their bodies frozen in a hall of dragons turned ice statues. He recovered nothing but a journal written by Wolfsong recounting her journey and findings. It was sealed away by the Court, to be forever kept in the darkest reaches of the Hoard. The contents was said to have disturbed them.

A ceremony was held for the two of them. Their friends and any spies in the city at the time appeared. Alibi was seen after the reception, crying silently as he provided a few trinkets at their shrine. Maeve did not leave the Spykeep for a few days.

His biological father didn't even deserve to be referred to as a father, he never acted like one. This made no sense to him. "Kaiden? Oh, I mean- Sir?" He heard the voice of one of his guards behind him. Surya. Kaiden quickly dabbed at his eyes. "Were... Were you crying?" Surya asked him. He sounded worried. "More than that. He was your father." Surya said quietly. "Hardly," Kaiden growled, glaring at Surya. "Forget it. Why are not at your post?" "I know my way around the city, kid." "I'm sure she's just very worried about you!" Surya spoke soothingly, trying to calm down his superior. "I've been worried about you since Landslide's death too! Please... Take a seat beside me. We can talk about your troubles." Kaiden's wings furled and he turned his head to Surya. He patted the ground beside him with his tail. Kaiden sighed and sat beside him. "So, kid. First things first, why does the matriarch want me to be escorted like I'm sort of prisoner of war?" Kaiden sulked, then sneered. "Did she finally lose all her trust in me? I wouldn't be surprised." "No, I don't think she has. You wouldn't be a First Sphere dragon." Surya smiled at him. There was a hint of genuine sincerity in his voice. He had picked up a large rock and was fiddling with it. "I suppose you have a point." Kaiden sighed, then began to open up abruptly. Something about this kid made him feel safe. "I don't know why I miss him. He was never a father to me." Surya's claws gripped the rock tightly. "He was... a dreadful dragon. I think maybe you're thinking too much about what could have been." Surya stared at the Mirror solemnly, pausing before going on. "So much so that reality has become a haze." Kaiden nodded, suddenly feeling weak. That was... true. How Surya was able to learn that after a few minutes of talking eluded him. He opened his jaw to speak, but no sound came out. He dabbed away at the beginnings of tears. Surya looked away. The rock he had been holding had a considerable amounts of claw marks etched into it from feverish movements. "I'm sorry." the Pearlcatcher said. He looked as though he was beginning to tense up. "Don't be," Kaiden choked on his words."It's not your fault that he's my... f-father." The word felt like sandpaper on his tongue. "Not for that," Surya murmured so softly that Kaiden barely heard what he had said. "For this." The sound of rock hitting a skull echoed throughout the cathedral outskirts.

Kaiden, the strategist of guards and Surya, a guard squad leader.

Kaiden laments about his life, memories, and more when his biological father mysteriously dies.

Kaiden stood solemnly, staring down at a shrine Even though it was decorated, it still looked so sad and dull. Beneath a picture of Landslide were beautiful cloth and flowers, things to celebrate his memory. His awful memory.

All Kaiden had was a fire flower, shriveled up as if to elude to his disdain for his biological father. He and Hellcaller, another First Sphere dragon, had conceived him by mistake and hadn't bothered to care for him themselves or own up to their wrongdoing. When Kaiden let their misdeeds ring true, the clan turned their backs on Landslide. It was his fault that his biological father fell from grace. He could care less, though. He deserved it.

He laid the flower with the other objects. He didn't even know why he had come. He didn't show up to the ceremony, why was he here leaving a flower? By the Lightweaver, he felt so dumb.

He hung his head, feeling the beginnings of tears in the corners of his eyes. It was stupid. It was all so stupid. Why was he crying? His biological father didn't even deserve to be referred to as a father, he never acted like one. This made no sense to him.

"Kaiden? Oh, I mean- Sir?" He heard the voice of one of his guards behind him. Surya. Kaiden quickly dabbed at his eyes.

"Were... Were you crying?" Surya asked him. He sounded worried.

Kaiden could not falter in front of one of his own guards, so he opted to feign a state of normality. He shook his head. "I'm alright. We, uh, lost another dragon. First Sphere too, wasn't he?"

"More than that. He was your father." Surya said quietly.

"Hardly," Kaiden growled, glaring at Surya. "Forget it. Why are not at your post?" If he remembered correctly, Surya and his squad were stationed near the Crater for the week. In the deepest reaches of the Crater was the prison. It was clearly an area of priority.

"The matriarch sent for you." Surya responded. Kaiden grimaced. What, was she going to attempt to console him? Yet, it was like her to do something like that. Matriarch Zhyrine was an advocate of peace and despised infighting and death in the clan as any good ruler would.

Kaiden unfurled his wings and was about to take off when Surya stopped him with a gentle brush of his tufted tail. "She, well, wanted me to escort you to her as well." he interjected, which prompted the Mirror to raise a brow.

"E-Excuse me? What, why?" He shook his head, growing agitated. "I know my way around the city, kid."

"I'm sure she's just very worried about you!" Surya spoke soothingly, trying to calm down his superior. "I've been worried about you since Landslide's death too! Please... Take a seat beside me. We can talk about your troubles."

Kaiden's wings furled and he turned his head to Surya. He patted the ground beside him with his tail. Kaiden sighed and sat beside him.

The Coatl opened up his eyes to the sight of a black and pink Skydancer smiling at him. Startled, he jolted backwards. "V-Vitra!? What are you doing here!?" Ozias stuttered, taken aback by the sudden intrusion. "It... It isn't even dawn!" "Rise and shine!" Vitra was smiling at him, but an odd glint shone in his eyes. The Skydancer looked fidgety, anxious even. "That answers none of my questions." Ozias muttered, peering at him through sleepy eyes. "This will." Vitra held out a poster. On it was a drawing of a Mirror Dragon. From his eyes spewed what could only be magic. "Is that a target?" Ozias slowly took the paper and examined it in the pale moonlight. The Mirror was worth a measly ten thousand treasure. "Can't it wait until the morning when everyone else is awake?" "That's just the thing!" As Vitra spoke, his claws were shivering. "I thought maybe you and I could take him down together. Just the two of us, honeybee." "Uh... erm... Fine." Ozias frowned at the nickname. He actually thought it was cute, but he wouldn't give Vitra the pleasure of letting him know that. Vitra took Ozias by the arm and tugged him out of his nest. He barely had time to grab his bag of tools before he was dragged out of the base. ----- "Don't we have a rule about sneaking off places without anyone else knowing?" Ozias asked. The two were walking to the Beacon of the Radiant Eye. It was where the poster said their target would be. "Oh, please. The Sunforge is a mercenary band, not a foster home," Vitra had reverted back to his more calm and collected self. "Look, why don't you read up on our target?" Ozias sighed, taking the poster from his bag. The only light he had to read was the one coming from his purple glowing claws and the pale moonlight. Ozias asked Vitra, who smirked at his question. "The guy can control the weather and stuff," Vitra laughed, "It's basic merc stuff, honeybee." "Don't call me that." The Coatl hissed softly, hiding his flushing face. He began to notice the number of broken pillars around them growing, a telltale sign that they were near the Beacon. "I'm sowwy, honeybee," Vitra replied mockingly. Ozias sighed again. "Since we're already near the Beacon, we should... wait for him to appear!" Vitra proceeded to turn and push his way into some greenery before lying down and patting the grass beside him, a gesture welcoming Ozias' company. "What are the odds that the target will be running around in the middle of the night?" Ozias retorted, reluctantly joining him. Vitra looked away for a second, eyes flicking about rapidly as though he was searching for an answer. "Uh... Who doesn't love a midnight stroll?" Ozias rolled his eyes, his forked tongue flicking in dismissal. "So be it. This really could've waited until morning... you know?" Vitra suddenly put his head on one of Ozias' legs, much to his surprise. He stiffened, blushing and keeping his gaze straight ahead and away from Vitra. "I do know. That's why I'm so... glad that you're here." When he didn't respond, Vitra sighed. Ozias stole a look at him. There was guilt in those slit-like pink eyes of his. A guilty tone came out of his jaws when he spoke again too. "I'm sorry... I-" Vitra was cut off by a startling, echoing thunder clap behind them, causing the two to jolt upright. Vitra immediately jumped into the open. Ozias stood behind him. Several meters away stood an infuriated Mirror Dragon, his body was covered by strange tattoos and scars. It appeared as though actual green wind was flowing from his eyes. It was Anvil, their target. [item=depleted sacridite][item=cursed tuft of fur][item=blackened warninghorn] Anvil's eyes grazed over the two, but stopped when he saw Vitra. His expression morphed into disturbance, his eyes round in shock. "Y-You..." His voice sounded like one of a long-broken, lost dragon, shaking and manic. "...A-Alive?" A heavy and condescending rain fell upon the three. The area was surrounded in gray, saddened atmosphere. Startled, Ozias looked at his Skydancer companion, who bore an unusual furious glare. "You know him?!" Ozias' appalled look apparent on his face as he stared, maw agape, at Vitra. He didn't respond. "I shoulda done this a long time ago." Vitra growled, holding an unwavering look of intense anger, his eyes locked onto Anvil. He returned his ferocious glare with a look of rage, his sharp teeth bared. The rain had turned into a thunderous storm, rain pouring down fiercely. "I'm gonna rip your limbs from your body." The Mirror's voice was hard with anger. Suddenly, a massive bolt of lightning collided with the earth before them. Ozias fell backwards, blinded and his ears ringing. The world was black for a moment, the ringing in his ears ceasing to leave, but when he regained stability, he was greeted by Vitra being electrocuted by a bolt of lightning. His head bowed and his teeth gritting as he took the attack. Ozias could hear his fur sizzling. "V-Vitra!" Ozias gasped, concerned that his friend was about to be burnt into ashes. Before he could assist him with a healing spell, Vitra's head shot upward suddenly. His eyes beamed pink for a second before he sent out a burst of Arcane magic that dissipated the lightning. Vitra roared as he charged at Anvil. Shocked by his opponent's sudden move, Anvil shot into the air and began to focus on casting something new. Ozias heard Vitra grunt as he grasped nothing but air. A dense fog began to coat the area, shrouding the dragons in a gray veil. Their figures were illuminated only momentarily by the random small lightning bolts that would strike the earth around them. "I'm not finished with you yet!" Vitra's claws gripped the dirt in fury. He fiercely began firing spheres of Arcane magic aimlessly. Ozias yelped as one sphere scored his side. "Watch it!" He inhaled deeply, before roaring out a long beam that cut through the fog. It revealed Anvil, his eyes closed in fragile concentration. When he realized that he was exposed, he gasped and the fog lifted. "There!" Vitra's eyes locked onto his target, before disappearing in a puff of pink clouds and reappearing in front of Anvil. He tackled him to the ground. "You monster!" Anvil roared as the two tore into each other's flesh and rolled about. "You monster, you monster, you monster!" As Anvil roared, he conjured a gust of wind that threw Vitra off of him and into Ozias, who had running to him. They fell over. Before Ozias could regain his senses, he felt the sensation of Wind magic surround his body. When he opened his eyes, he huffed as he realized Anvil had used magic to restrain him and Vitra. Ozias felt his body begin to freeze over. It was common for a nervous Ice dragon to do this, but he didn't know what he was feeling. Fear? Shock? ...Anger? Vitra looked at his friend, who had begun to look like a dragon popsicle. He sighed a long sigh of guilt. Then he looked to Anvil, who was standing in front of him, laughing triumphantly. "Fine. You want me dead?" Vitra hissed. "Kill me. Kill me once, kill me twice, kill me a million ****** times! I don't care as long as he... he lives! Let Ozias live...!" Those words reached Ozias' ears and then they reached his chest. He felt his heart began to beat rapidly. He thought the ice covering his body would cease to grow, but no... It just kept growing and it wouldn't stop. Maybe this feeling was... No, he had to protect Vitra! Anvil pondered killing Vitra as he was, but a smile graced his face instead. "No... I wanna see the look on your ugly face when his last breath leaves his body..!" His own words made his smile grow wider. He laughed. "AhahAHaHAAHAAAA!!!" Vitra jolted forward in his restraints. He was struggling now, wriggling like a worm caught in the beak of a bird. "I swear... to the Lightweaver..." He was roaring now, each screech paired with a huff of short breath. "You hurt him and I will rip your snout off of your FACE!" Ozias was almost completely covered in ice now, his eyes closed. Beside him, Anvil giggled some more. "HA! KEEP DRE-" Suddenly, there was a blast and the sound of ice shattering. Vitra closed his eyes hard, an attempt to protect himself from harm. When he opened them, he was met with a shocking sight. Ozias was standing at full height, wings flared and his eyes beaming with Ice magic. On the ground around him lay shards of ice. Some distance in front of him was Anvil, staggering backward away from the Coatl. There was ice embedded in his scales and blood began to seep from new wounds. "Wh... at...!" Anvil panted. The Wind magic in his eyes was dying. "Y-You-" Ozias stalked over to the Mirror dragon, his eyes still shimmering with Ice magic. His gaze was expressionless as he conjured bolts of ice and snow. They plunged into the Mirror's sides and chest. Vitra was released from his restraints as Anvil let out a scream of agony. "No... I wo...n't... Not aga...in..." Anvil's voice weakened for only a moment. Then he roared. The Wind magic began to furiously flow from his eyes again. "Enough, enough, enough!" He suddenly barreled forward, headbutting Ozias in the chest, knocking him out of his concentration and forcing him backwards. "You're gonna die one day... YOU'RE... GONNA DIE ONE DAY...!" Anvil snarled through gritted teeth. Blood was flowing profusely from his new, ice-inflicted wounds. He flared his wings weakly, then he conjured a powerful wind that carried him into the sky. He was gone. [item=shimmering cloth][item=softly glowing pendant][item=shed fuchsia scale] Ozias stood back up, taking deep and long breaths. He looked behind him at Vitra. His friend's eyes were round, as if he couldn't quite comprehend what had just happened. "H...Honeybee." Vitra breathed as he attempted to regain his composure on quaking legs. He was blown away. "...My apologies. I failed. You can... see that." Ozias sighed before looking away from him again. He had suddenly became really, really invested in killing the target for some strange, unknown reason just then. "No, no! That was..." Vitra's face flushed. "You were really something else." Ozias turned to face him. Vitra's eyes betrayed nothing, all he saw was a starstruck expression. He smiled briefly, then his look was solemn. "I'm sorry, honeybee. I knew Anvil once, from before... everything." When Ozias didn't respond, he continued. "When I saw that poster, when I saw that he was still alive... I couldn't. I just had to go after him." In Ozias' eyes glinted suspicion. "Why didn't you wait until morning? We would have killed him with ease with all five of us here." Vitra hung his head. "I didn't want anyone to know that I was out fighting someone I-" "Then why bring me with you?" Ozias' wings twitched with agitation. His eyes were narrowed and his crest of feathers flared. "Because you... I trust you! I trust you, okay?" Vitra looked up at him. "I don't want the Sunforge to know that I had a past, that I came from somewhere. And you're more... more than just a teammate to me." Ozias's gaze softened at his last sentence. "I'm... sorry for yelling at you," He held out a paw and when Vitra took it, he continued. "I get it. We all got people we don't like and things that happened that we rather forget. Just don't take anymore suicidal bounties, okay?" He said the last part with a light laugh. Vitra grinned, forcing away the beginnings of tears. "Okay, honeybee."

Vitra and Ozias, two mercenaries of the mercenary band, "The Sunforge"

Vitra and Ozias, two mercenaries, set out alone to kill a target without the help of their mercenary band.
