Blown Away

The Sunforge"
Vitra and Ozias, two mercenaries, set out alone to kill a target without the help of their mercenary band.
Ozias awoke to a claw tapping on his snout. The Coatl opened up his eyes to the sight of a black and pink Skydancer smiling at him. Startled, he jolted backwards.
"V-Vitra!? What are you doing here!?" Ozias stuttered, taken aback by the sudden intrusion. "It... It isn't even dawn!"
"Rise and shine!" Vitra was smiling at him, but an odd glint shone in his eyes. The Skydancer looked fidgety, anxious even.
"That answers none of my questions." Ozias muttered, peering at him through sleepy eyes.
"This will." Vitra held out a poster. On it was a drawing of a Mirror Dragon. From his eyes spewed what could only be magic.
"Is that a target?" Ozias slowly took the paper and examined it in the pale moonlight. The Mirror was worth a measly ten thousand treasure. "Can't it wait until the morning when everyone else is awake?"
"That's just the thing!" As Vitra spoke, his claws were shivering. "I thought maybe you and I could take him down together. Just the two of us, honeybee."
"Uh... erm... Fine." Ozias frowned at the nickname. He actually thought it was cute, but he wouldn't give Vitra the pleasure of letting him know that.
Vitra took Ozias by the arm and tugged him out of his nest. He barely had time to grab his bag of tools before he was dragged out of the base.
"Don't we have a rule about sneaking off places without anyone else knowing?" Ozias asked. The two were walking to the Beacon of the Radiant Eye. It was where the poster said their target would be.
"Oh, please. The Sunforge is a mercenary band, not a foster home," Vitra had reverted back to his more calm and collected self. "Look, why don't you read up on our target?"
Ozias sighed, taking the poster from his bag. The only light he had to read was the one coming from his purple glowing claws and the pale moonlight.

"What's an atmokinetic?" Ozias asked Vitra, who smirked at his question.
"The guy can control the weather and stuff," Vitra laughed, "It's basic merc stuff, honeybee."
"Don't call me that." The Coatl hissed softly, hiding his flushing face. He began to notice the number of broken pillars around them growing, a telltale sign that they were near the Beacon.
"I'm sowwy, honeybee," Vitra replied mockingly. Ozias sighed again.
"Since we're already near the Beacon, we should... wait for him to appear!" Vitra proceeded to turn and push his way into some greenery before lying down and patting the grass beside him, a gesture welcoming Ozias' company.
"What are the odds that the target will be running around in the middle of the night?" Ozias retorted, reluctantly joining him.
Vitra looked away for a second, eyes flicking about rapidly as though he was searching for an answer. "Uh... Who doesn't love a midnight stroll?"
Ozias rolled his eyes, his forked tongue flicking in dismissal. "So be it. This really could've waited until morning... you know?"
Vitra suddenly put his head on one of Ozias' legs, much to his surprise. He stiffened, blushing and keeping his gaze straight ahead and away from Vitra. "I do know. That's why I'm so... glad that you're here."
When he didn't respond, Vitra sighed. Ozias stole a look at him. There was guilt in those slit-like pink eyes of his. A guilty tone came out of his jaws when he spoke again too. "I'm sorry... I-"
Vitra was cut off by a startling, echoing thunder clap behind them, causing the two to jolt upright. Vitra immediately jumped into the open. Ozias stood behind him.
Several meters away stood an infuriated Mirror Dragon, his body was covered by strange tattoos and scars. It appeared as though actual green wind was flowing from his eyes.
It was Anvil, their target.
Anvil's eyes grazed over the two, but stopped when he saw Vitra. His expression morphed into disturbance, his eyes round in shock.
"Y-You..." His voice sounded like one of a long-broken, lost dragon, shaking and manic. "...A-Alive?"
A heavy and condescending rain fell upon the three. The area was surrounded in gray, saddened atmosphere. Startled, Ozias looked at his Skydancer companion, who bore an unusual furious glare.
"You know him?!" Ozias' appalled look apparent on his face as he stared, maw agape, at Vitra. He didn't respond.
"I shoulda done this a long time ago." Vitra growled, holding an unwavering look of intense anger, his eyes locked onto Anvil. He returned his ferocious glare with a look of rage, his sharp teeth bared. The rain had turned into a thunderous storm, rain pouring down fiercely.
"
I'm gonna rip your limbs from your body." The Mirror's voice was hard with anger. Suddenly, a massive bolt of lightning collided with the earth before them. Ozias fell backwards, blinded and his ears ringing.
The world was black for a moment, the ringing in his ears ceasing to leave, but when he regained stability, he was greeted by Vitra being electrocuted by a bolt of lightning. His head bowed and his teeth gritting as he took the attack. Ozias could hear his fur sizzling.
"V-Vitra!" Ozias gasped, concerned that his friend was about to be burnt into ashes. Before he could assist him with a healing spell, Vitra's head shot upward suddenly. His eyes beamed pink for a second before he sent out a burst of Arcane magic that dissipated the lightning.
Vitra roared as he charged at Anvil. Shocked by his opponent's sudden move, Anvil shot into the air and began to focus on casting something new. Ozias heard Vitra grunt as he grasped nothing but air.
A dense fog began to coat the area, shrouding the dragons in a gray veil. Their figures were illuminated only momentarily by the random small lightning bolts that would strike the earth around them.
"I'm not finished with you yet!" Vitra's claws gripped the dirt in fury. He fiercely began firing spheres of Arcane magic aimlessly.
Ozias yelped as one sphere scored his side. "Watch it!" He inhaled deeply, before roaring out a long beam that cut through the fog.
It revealed Anvil, his eyes closed in fragile concentration. When he realized that he was exposed, he gasped and the fog lifted.
"There!" Vitra's eyes locked onto his target, before disappearing in a puff of pink clouds and reappearing in front of Anvil. He tackled him to the ground.
"You monster!" Anvil roared as the two tore into each other's flesh and rolled about. "You monster, you monster, you monster!"
As Anvil roared, he conjured a gust of wind that threw Vitra off of him and into Ozias, who had running to him. They fell over.
Before Ozias could regain his senses, he felt the sensation of Wind magic surround his body. When he opened his eyes, he huffed as he realized Anvil had used magic to restrain him and Vitra.
Ozias felt his body begin to freeze over. It was common for a nervous Ice dragon to do this, but he didn't know what he was feeling. Fear? Shock? ...Anger?
Vitra looked at his friend, who had begun to look like a dragon popsicle. He sighed a long sigh of guilt. Then he looked to Anvil, who was standing in front of him, laughing triumphantly.
"Fine. You want me dead?" Vitra hissed. "Kill me. Kill me once, kill me twice, kill me a million ****** times! I don't care as long as he... he lives! Let Ozias live...!"
Those words reached Ozias' ears and then they reached his chest. He felt his heart began to beat rapidly. He thought the ice covering his body would cease to grow, but no... It just kept growing and it wouldn't stop. Maybe this feeling was... No, he had to protect Vitra!
Anvil pondered killing Vitra as he was, but a smile graced his face instead. "No... I wanna see the look on your ugly face when his last breath leaves his body..!" His own words made his smile grow wider. He laughed. "AhahAHaHAAHAAAA!!!"
Vitra jolted forward in his restraints. He was struggling now, wriggling like a worm caught in the beak of a bird. "I swear... to the Lightweaver..." He was roaring now, each screech paired with a huff of short breath. "You hurt him and I will
rip your snout off of your FACE!"
Ozias was almost completely covered in ice now, his eyes closed. Beside him, Anvil giggled some more. "HA! KEEP DRE-"
Suddenly, there was a blast and the sound of ice shattering. Vitra closed his eyes hard, an attempt to protect himself from harm. When he opened them, he was met with a shocking sight.
Ozias was standing at full height, wings flared and his eyes beaming with Ice magic. On the ground around him lay shards of ice. Some distance in front of him was Anvil, staggering backward away from the Coatl. There was ice embedded in his scales and blood began to seep from new wounds.
"Wh... at...!" Anvil panted. The Wind magic in his eyes was dying. "Y-You-"
Ozias stalked over to the Mirror dragon, his eyes still shimmering with Ice magic. His gaze was expressionless as he conjured bolts of ice and snow. They plunged into the Mirror's sides and chest. Vitra was released from his restraints as Anvil let out a scream of agony.
"No... I wo...n't... Not aga...in..." Anvil's voice weakened for only a moment. Then he roared. The Wind magic began to furiously flow from his eyes again. "
Enough, enough, enough!"
He suddenly barreled forward, headbutting Ozias in the chest, knocking him out of his concentration and forcing him backwards.
"You're gonna die one day... YOU'RE... GONNA DIE ONE DAY...!" Anvil snarled through gritted teeth. Blood was flowing profusely from his new, ice-inflicted wounds. He flared his wings weakly, then he conjured a powerful wind that carried him into the sky.
He was gone.
Ozias stood back up, taking deep and long breaths. He looked behind him at Vitra. His friend's eyes were round, as if he couldn't quite comprehend what had just happened.
"H...Honeybee." Vitra breathed as he attempted to regain his composure on quaking legs. He was blown away.
"...My apologies. I failed. You can... see that." Ozias sighed before looking away from him again. He had suddenly became really,
really invested in killing the target for some strange, unknown reason just then.
"No, no! That was..." Vitra's face flushed. "You were really something else."
Ozias turned to face him. Vitra's eyes betrayed nothing, all he saw was a starstruck expression.
He smiled briefly, then his look was solemn. "I'm sorry, honeybee. I knew Anvil once, from before... everything."
When Ozias didn't respond, he continued. "When I saw that poster, when I saw that he was still alive... I couldn't. I just had to go after him."
In Ozias' eyes glinted suspicion. "Why didn't you wait until morning? We would have killed him with ease with all five of us here."
Vitra hung his head. "I didn't want anyone to know that I was out fighting someone I-"
"Then why bring me with you?" Ozias' wings twitched with agitation. His eyes were narrowed and his crest of feathers flared.
"Because you... I trust you! I trust you, okay?" Vitra looked up at him. "I don't want the Sunforge to know that I had a past, that I came from
somewhere. And you're more... more than just a teammate to me."
Ozias's gaze softened at his last sentence. "I'm... sorry for yelling at you," He held out a paw and when Vitra took it, he continued. "I get it. We all got people we don't like and things that happened that we rather forget. Just don't take anymore suicidal bounties, okay?" He said the last part with a light laugh.
Vitra grinned, forcing away the beginnings of tears.
"Okay, honeybee."
