TOPIC | Am I using Eliminate wrong?

Okay, so, I have 2 dragons stoned with eliminate (because I heard that’s the best thing to do) but I’ve found it…underwhelming so far.

Almost every time I use it, it gives me an attack slightly weaker than the main elemental bolt, and then occasionally (very occasionally) it’ll give me a big one that kills or almost kills the enemy.

I usually end up not using it much because the elemental attacks are stronger overall.

But keep seeing how desperate people are for eliminate, and I feel like it should be much better than it has been for me for people to want it so much.

So, I suppose my question is, is there a proper way to use it? Like, does it need to be paired with a specific stone, does it need to be used at the start/end of the battle? Is there a pattern I need to discover?

Any advice would be amazing! Thank you!

@Kilonian You've been using eliminate and statting your dragons wrong; FR is not like most rpgs where you want a distributed stat build. Eliminate is good because it refunds your breath when you KO an enemy with it. For your lvl 22, here is an updated levelling guide. You want to be maxing out speed and strength. You also are using Meditate instead of Scratch, which means that the times you get very little damage from the attack is because Mediate provides a 3-turn debuff that massively reduces all the physical damage you do. When you have a dragon with eliminate properly built up, it can level 2 other lvl 1 dragons by itself in high level venues like Ghostlight, Mire, etc. Levelling and exalting fodder is one of the quickest and most efficient ways of moneymaking on site. Eliminate is also used to oneshot enemies for general grinding. That is why it is so good when it is used properly.

Eliminate makes grinding coli go really fast because of the breath refund. It sounds like you need to pair your eliminate with a rally, since rally gives a strengths buff and that should allow you to one-shot most enemies. You could also check out some guides on what stats to give your dragons. Hope this helps!

Life is just a neat example of electromagnetic force!
You need to KO the enemy using Eliminate and then it won't use up any energy. To do this, you want to pour as many points as possible into the strength stat, and it often involves either using Rally to boost your strength or using Scratch to weaken the enemy a bit before taking them out.

The optimal build can differ depending on which stage you want to battle. There is a huge guide here with a lot of options to look through. I have 119 strength and 69 quick on my main Eliminate user, statted to one of the Mire Flyer guides. In the Mire she can one-shot almost every enemy with Rally + Eliminate, but against the fungus armadillos and the fish with legs it's Scratch + Eliminate instead. In the Volcanic Vents and below, she can one-shot everything other than bosses with just Eliminate.

they/them
The benefit to eliminate is that when it knocks out the enemy, you don't lose any breath. So the ideal way to be using it is to chip an enemy slightly or use rally on yourself for the strength boost so that the move then kills, allowing you to finish off the opponent quickly while keeping your breath up so that you don't need to slow down the pace of battles.

The elemental moves are quite strong too and there's nothing wrong with having them as another option to use in battle, but they always consume breath regardless of whether you knock the enemy out or not, requiring you to regain breath continuously, while eliminate avoids that issue whenever you get a kill with it.

Also, looking at a dragon you have it on, it looks like you statted for balanced stats, which doesn't really work for efficiency in the coliseum. The best build for an eliminate is a physical glass cannon, because then you get the full effect of that high power move for easy fast kills. I'd recommend looking into guides for how to build a coli dragon because that will help a lot!

I took a look at your 22s which I am seeing you are using as trainers, the answer is yes. you are using the wrong way. coli builds are broken in easy term in the sense that stats can not be equal. check out the coil guides for help like those listed here.

in short, you need rally to pair up with it oftentimes, also it goes along with the amount you have for their strength number, if its low then your elim will also be weak along with other phystal attacks.

Seconding what 888 said. Specialising your dragon in one primary stat (str or int) is the best way to go. If you split a dragon's stats between str and int, you end up with a dragon that can use both but at half power, and in the current coli, that just makes it half as powerful as it could be.

Qck is also important to keep up with turn order. Vit is optional if you want to be able to tank hits. I like having it as a backup. But if you're going to buff defense it's almost always better to go vit rather than def or mnd because vit provides roughly the same amount of effective hp but for both damage types.

Agi I've heard doesn't really work how you think it should, and i only really put just enough points so my dragons don't miss. Even at max level I've found you can go as low as <20 and still hit pretty comfortably.

Come visit my lore lair! It's a fun time here.

Something strange is happening on Sornieth. All across the world, dragons have begun to be born with multiple elements. How? Why? As dragons all across Sornieth takes notice, the wheel of fate begins to turn, as one fae's search for her mysterious origins leads her down a path that could change Sornieth forever.
Re-think your stats. You mention elemental bolts... which are based on the Int stat if I recall. Eliminates are a strength based attack. So it sounds like your guy is too evenly statted for Elim to really shine.

Coli favors glass cannon builds. I'd switch those bolts out for their strength based equivalent, the elemental slashes. And restat for primarily strength and speed. My Wehn is my main coli grinder who uses elim and he's based off an old sedona build. While he's probably not the ideal- I'm not like into coli at all, that should give you a vague idea of what the stats should probably look like.

I am blown away.
The coliseum has just changed forever for me.
Thank you all so much!

I haven’t restoned anyone yet, and I don’t have any potions to reset my stats, but wow.

Special thanks to @888 for telling me that meditate was ruining my life lol
I tried a lower level venue and just defended for 3 turns to get that debuff off, and than bam! Killed in one shot every time!

I now see why this is such a lucrative item lol

Anyways, gonna go farm properly now, and hopefully get some of the tincure of dissolution I need to make this work even better!

@Kilonian In addition to the excellent comments from others above, if you want to run a meditate build with an eliminate instead of scratch, it's a very popular trainer style! Dragons like this are often called "monk" builds and are great for training fodder quickly as long as you get used to the defend pattern 888 mentioned.

I have a monk build on one of my Mire trainers here! The Mire Millionaire guide is what I used to stat her.

Maki's coli builds are an excellent resource too, and can help you experiment with different builds for different needs. I have a Harpy's Roost fodder trainer, a general farming/grinding trio, and several others that match different builds from Maki. You can experiment and find what builds work best for you over time :D
