TOPIC | Explain a fandragon
By which I mean, share some of your fandragons, and explain some of the choices you made in making them. Do the colors literally match the character's look? Did you give them a gene because it has a meaningful name? Why did you choose that pose/breed? What subtle symbolism did you include that other people might not pick up on? If the character doesn't have much in the way of physical description, how did you choose to show it's them? some of my own guys: Silmarillion Nerdanel is a sculptor, but I don't think Tolkien ever specifies her medium. Or at least, I don't recalled seeing it mentioned. So she's a multimedia artist for this depiction- her primary is stonework, her secondary is clay/ceramics, and her tert is metal casting. Because "Caranthir" means red and "Morifinwe" means black, and he's moody (or at least canonically bad-tempered), I have jokingly decided that young Caranthir was an emo goth, and set his aesthetic here accordingly. My, you look familiar...
Check out The Familiar Faces Project here!

Oh my gosh your Waystone Pro is perfect. XD I love the choices you made there! As for me, I actually just finished blathering about a fandragon in another thread, and then I saw this, so I think I'll just say things here too. XD But first, my Nocturne of Shadow from the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. He's a Nocturne (breed), and his element is Shadow. He's also triple Shadow (colors) and is a Shadow breed. So he's the most Shadowy of Nocturnes. His name (Makoto) means "truth" which is a huge theme in the Shadow Temple/Sheikah in general in Ocarina of Time, and the Nocturne of Shadow teleports you to the Shadow Temple. So yeah. His familiar is a reference to a common enemy in dungeons in that area, too: flaming skulls called Bubbles. Because "Bubble" is totally the first thing that comes to mind when you see a flaming skull. And now we move on to Pokemon. This is a combination fandragon (from Pokemon Violet version) of AI Turo, Miraidon, and Uva Academy's logo. I did not actually know about AI Turo at the time of putting this fandragon together but dang does it work. The glowing Lightning eyes match the eye color and all that, but also, it's Lightning. As in Electricity. So, like, electrical technology. Also, he's a Lightning dragon, so it mirrors Miraidon's Electric/Dragon typing. His scene is a reference to the underground cavernous place where you find these two things. And the familiar is a reference to Turo's attitude toward his research, and kind of looks like a representation of him working on it (also of a CERTAIN EVENT which I won't go into detail on here, but it involves Miraidon and Turo and if you know, you know.) Also, Marva's prank making him part of the Explode Flight. ... Yeah. Same event. Too fitting. Also, from Pokemon Sword/Shield, it's Chairman Rose! Gave him Branches because, well, his name is Rose. Also, Boa's patterns on his face perfectly recreate his facial hair. And Spire looks like thorns. Plus, Sandsurge is the perfect breed for him since Rose is an interesting combination of laid-back and absent-minded as heck, while also being that one kid who turned in his university homework while he was still in kindergarten. (Extreme focus on the future and getting stuff done NOW when it won't matter for actually a millennium.) I figured it went very well with how particular, organized, and efficient Sandsurges are. Plus, Sandsurges work in groups, and Rose is the head of a conglomerate, which says something about how willing he is to organize people toward a common cause. As for his Nature element, it's another reference to his name while also matching his actual eye color. And now, onto Fire Emblem. I'll just show Berkut here for now, but I also have Rinea and Alm, and all of them are from Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. He's a unit who rides a horse, so I gave him a horse familiar. Appearance-wise, I mostly just went for going as one-for-one as I could, including matching his mane to his hair color, and his armor and over-the-shoulder half-cape. I also gave him his lance as his main weapon. I included Love's Herald for his apparel to show his connection to Rinea. I was referencing a specific point in the game with this look. Also, I chose Imperials for all 3 because of how involved they are with Rigel(country)'s imperial family. And now that one I (lightly and accidentally) ranted about in another thread. This is my Great Aether fandragon. Which is why he's an Aether. This attack appears in various titles in Fire Emblem and in Super Smash Bros (it's Ike's final smash, which is actually also where it originated. It just to just be "Aether" as his signature attack, but then they gave that move to other characters and so took his final smash of Great Aether and used that as his signature attack afterward.) Great Aether is usually performed by Ike using Ragnell (a golden-bladed sword, hence Blazon's Alloy here) and involves a lot of blue fire (hence Sapphire Flaunt and the Teal Whiskers. Also, being a fire elemented dragon. Also, his eyes match his wings this way.) For his familiar, I chose the Spectral Duskflapper because it's also blue fire and talks about an explosion, which is rather much what Great Aether is.

I have a Gale from BG3. I chose his current genes because I thought they resembled clothing in a way,and because Candy and Icing are super cheap. The browns, I think, look like his hair. His scry in his bio is what I'd like to gene him into, as I feel it better portrays his personality, though it will take time to get the currency for them. I decided to design its dragon after the seaweed that grows here in abundance, as well as the sea itself. It's a place that is green even underwater, and I used octopus to show that. The noxtide is the seaweed. Glowing eyes both because it looks good, but also the fact the place is severely haunted. It's specifically the person called "Malzeno" by the main focus character of the commercial. He's got a long, blond wig with hot pink clothes and a pair of pink wings. It definitively doesn't look like Malzeno outside of...feathered wings I guess? Malzeno's wings aren't even feathered. The flame collar is his clothes and the wings are self-explanatory. Genes and colors were chosen carefully. I wanted them to be "pretty girl" in aesthetic, with a non-pink primary. Seraph for yet more feathers, glimmer to add some more pink to the base.

Interesting to read about everyone's thought processes behind their fandragons! Very good reads. Here's a couple of my own: Kamata-kun / Godzilla second form (Shin Godzilla) Firstly, permababy because he's just a baaaby. Well. Technically unevolved but eh close enough. Plus the big eyes are on point. Bogsneaks, while also giving off good Godzilla energy on their own, have that crawling on their belly look that's good for Kamata's posture as well. His colors being tan/blood is a sort of morbid recall to the way his gills bleed on land - which I also tried to replicate the look of with Thylacine. Not going into much detail on my other Godzillas, but my "generic" one has the primary of midnight lionfish to give him an underwater look. And Burning Godzilla's terracotta gembond is there to replicate the glowing parts of his skin. Bit - Zone 5 book series Bit is a robot that was created by injecting some sort of fluid into a glass dome, hence its capsule gene! I also picked spiral for it, not only bc baby spirals are very cute, but also because they have very noticable eyes. Wasp/Bee are also the pinnacle of robot genes so those were a no-brainer.

Love seeing all these interesting takes on characters! @Foxlo I love your Elden Ring gal (Are you excited for the DLC? >:3) I have a lot of fandragons but I'll just do three here hehe Mastercomputer from I have no Mouth but I Must Scream, doesn't really have an appearance from what I remember, so I was able to just make an aesthetic for his purposes in my lore. @TheGodOfStories I recognize all your fandergs! I adore the mastercomputer one, I love the story it’s from so much. I have a few song fandragons, but I’ll just talk about this one. It’s based on the vocaloid song “Magical Doctor” by MARETU. The song itself is very loud with rapid audio changes and kind of a breakcore sound. The music video has EXTREME flashing lights and lots of flashing images with bright colors, to the point I can barely make out what’s happening. Taking this into account, I selected a dragon with bright colors and a random appearance. If I were to compare the dragon’s appearance to the music video, its appearance is really similar. Not to mention that aberrations are weird looking and have a strange vibe, like the song.

yess !! love hearing people explain their fandragons :) left everyone likes this is challus, my dead space fandragon. his name is challus after the main villain of the first game, challus mercer, but this dragon doesn't actually depict the guy himself, just the game as a whole. the game is all gucky and gory, so i went for a just overall gross looking guy. aberrations are perfect because of the whole grotesque body stuff. his scene is also space and his familiar is the USG Ishimura, the ship where it all goes down. :) he's my only real fandragon and i love him terribly.

This inspired me to finish Sanctum! He's the keeper of all the Evergaols in my spinoff. Kinda decides who goes into the holes and why, etc.
(added him to post and he also holds my dump of Elden names)

I'm sort of excited, but also not?
I read that in the DLC you pretty much start from scratch stats-wise and can't power level at all because it has its own leveling system. You only level up by beating bosses and such, no farming runes :<

I really liked Elden because I'm not the best at timing dodges and can't parry to save my life so I relied on leveling higher than needed to take a few more kicks to the face lol. (Haligtree was rough man)

Conflicted for sure... I think the difficulty setting really should be optional, but eh.

Hopefully you are much better than me and can enjoy a harder reset! xD
