The Field Trip
A class from Illinois took a two-day field trip up to Chicago to tour the museums. Some of the students were excited beyond belief, others would rather do anything else. Their first day was nearly uneventful until they reached the hotel that night. There, they watched a rerun of the explosion of Chicago's laboratory a few days ago, watching the live feed in horror. The report said that no one outside of the perimeter had been killed and that the few who had been affected by the blast were fine.

Clean up crews were clearing away rubble and the news report soon slipped out of the minds of the students. They couldn't even see the building (or what was left) from where they were. It was simply a bad dream when they woke up the next morning. And then they turned on the television. Everything after that point had become a nightmare.

Rot Tox
The explosion of Chicago's laboratory's had been an accident. No one knew the cause, but it was bad. Parts of the area had been roped off and no one was allowed in. In stayed like that for three days, construction crews going in and out to remove the rubble. There had been a few people close enough to the explosion to be examined, but nothing looked off... until those three days after. Something horribly wrong had happened, and it had been too late by the time the people realized.

Citizens nicknamed it the Rot Tox, for they had no other name for it. It started out with small symptoms: headaches, rashes, blackouts, memory loss, unconsciously moving body parts. Within a few simply days, everything changed. The people infected had turned into zombie-like creatures, retaining their ability for language and individual thought. But that was the only similarity to who they had been before. They couldn't control their own body parts, and where the rash had been, open sores now festered. The Rot Tox spread through physical touch, though it took awhile for that to be figured out. The government scrambled to take care of the problem but to no avail.

The city was lost.

Kemikal Corp
Kemikal Corp had been one of the groups funding the science behind a plant-based weed killer. But they had no intention to use it on weeds. Instead, they sabotaged the experiment, their scientists on the inside faking tests and results until they got their biochemical attack perfect. Once it reached the stage they wanted, they detonated the lab and blew everything up. Their people were more than willing to die for the cause; they volunteered. And so they explosion was set and was a great success. Three days later their plan grew into a reality as reports of zombie people roaming the streets killing and attacking people at random roared onto news reports. Everything had been a success.

The Goal
It should be simple, right? Get out of the city. But zombies are roaming the city now, victims of what citizens are calling the Rot Tox. A simple touch will instantly affect you. The city has been quarantined off and is nearly impossible to escape from. Nearly. Get out of the city and you live. Stay... well, death would be better than what's waiting...

@AuguryDemon We've been working on this for so long that it's super exciting to actually start yay! :D Also, please keep in mind once more that I wrote way too much and I am deeply sorry for it. ;w;

Quote:
Name: Andromeda "Andy" Cerr
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Appearance: Andromeda has long, spiky raven black hair (sorta like this, only raven black) that goes down to about her mid back. The ends or tips of her hair are dyed a red colour in kind of an ombre (kinda like this).. Her eyes are blue and her skin tone is a little paler than that of a normal skin tone, although not by much. She stands at about 5’9”, so she's a little taller than average. Other than that, Andy has a normal, albeit lanky, body shape, maybe a bit more muscular than normal because she likes going on runs and going to the gym.

Her usual attire varies, but she enjoys wearing graphic shirts or shirts with funny or quirky things on them. She only owns one or two dresses/skirts, and with the amount of times she wears them it makes sense (she doesn’t wear them ever, just at super formal events). Her ideal outfit is a T-shirt with sweat/yoga pants, maybe with some shorts in between. And a hoodie on top if not too hot. Prefers darker colours (and likes trench coats for some reason, but will rarely - if ever - wear them).
Personality: First and foremost, many would describe Andy as a 'tomboy' or somewhat ‘boyish’ - and always smiling or upbeat. Andromeda is also somewhat of an optimist, always believing that things will work out in the end and making the best of a bad situation. She always wants to spread this positivity with those around her and enjoys making people happy in her own ways (making silly comments/jokes and always staying positive or comforting) and her large amount of confidence in everything she does helps do this. Although, she is also a bit of a risk-taker, so when paired with her confidence it sometimes leads to trouble. She also likes to chat and feels awkward if everyone is silent, so she will attempt to make small-talk - if she is quiet then that means she is either focused or something is on her mind/she’s not feeling good. She sees the good in people first before the bad when she first meets people and always tries to give them the benefit of the doubt. She does put a lot of trust into others though and relies on others heavily for support, so if a person breaks that trust she can become very cold and weary with/of them. Andy doesn’t get mad in the way of yelling and hitting, but more in a cold way as I said before - she almost never raises her voice, so her angry is to be silent and avoid the offending person. If the offending person did something mortally wrong (killed someone she cared about for example that escalated quickly) her sunny and bubbly demeanor would diminish completely and she would probably do something she would regret later. That being said, it is very hard to make her get angry, or even annoyed, but when she is it takes a while for her to go back to her normal self.

Andy does have moderate monophobia though, which is the fear of being alone. Her and her family is unsure of when it started, but Andromeda has had a psychiatric service dog ever since she was about 14 years old. Her monophobia isn’t bad enough that it is debilitating if someone isn’t constantly there - although her companion is always there to accompany her - since as long as someone is in the same area as someone she feels relatively fine, even if it’s in other rooms of a house for example. But if she’s in a vulnerable state like taking a shower, being in a small closed space, or sleeping, her monophobia heightens and the feeling of dread becomes stronger, so that’s when her service companion sticks right by her side even more and reassures her. It also heightens in large public areas/new areas or areas with no ‘escape’ points, which is why she got Rajar in the first place - she was too scared to go anywhere outside alone. This has lead to secondary insomnia (insomnia caused by a health condition) that shows up if she’s in a stressful situation, in a new place, or for no reason at all. She is absolutely unable to sleep without someone with her, no exceptions.

If she does have a panic attack (which is rare-ish in normal everyday life since she has adapted to it and is fine with her service dog) it could range from increased heart palpitations, to feeling out of breath, to feeling like she is about to blackout or becoming extremely paranoid.
History:Andromeda’s father works as a dog trainer, training dogs for a variety of different jobs such as for military, police, or services. Her mother travels abroad for work (she works for a company based in another country), so neither of them see her much, although she always comes home for holidays. And lastly, there’s Andromeda, who is an only child. They live in Illinois, USA currently in a normal sized house with a training facility just nextdoor.

Her childhood was fairly normal and you could even call it a happy one. She forged a strong bond with her dad (not so much her mom) and found a huge love of animals (since her dad usually had at least five dogs at a time in his small training facility). She made a good amount of friends in elementary school and found she had a knack for building and fixing mechanical machines. It is also around the end of elementary school that she was diagnosed with monophobia and her dad decided that it would be very beneficial for her to have a service dog - and her doctor agreed. Her dad had her pick one out from the puppies that had arrived at the training facility, and she chose a little doberman who would come to be called Rajar. Rajar was originally going to be trained as a guard dog, but she got him early enough in his life that they had not docked the tail or clipped the ears yet. So the training between them started immediately (her father being the one to personally train Rajar) and by the end of the first year they were already inseparable. Rajar was picking up on what to do in a variety of situations and slept either at the foot of Andy’s bed or snuggled up right next to her. Andy, in turn, was gaining confidence quickly and learned how to lead Rajar correctly.

Highschool came along, and even though she got more stares and comments because of Rajar, she took it all in stride. Eventually, after she made some good friends, some days she wouldn’t need to come to school with her service dog - she would feel safe enough just to come alone (which was a big victory for her).

Now she’s in the last year of highschool and wondering where to go next - something to do with mechanics or animals, surely. All throughout this time she has also been working to get over her phobia too, of course.
Skills: Cheering people up, building/fixing mechanical machines, democracy, handling dogs/other animals well
Faults: Trusts some people too much, monophobia/insomnia, reckless occasionally, creating plans
Other: Part of the field trip.
Psychiatric service/Guard ‘dog’: Rajar (pronounced with a soft ‘j’), the name given to a european doberman, is Andromeda’s service dog and all around companion. Rajar looks identical to the provided picture, with an uncropped tail and floppy ears. His collar is a red colour with a matching leash. Rajar also has a standard service dog vest that he wears whenever him and Andromeda go on public outings. In Andromeda’s pocket or wallet is his service dog ID which looks something like this (although of course saying ‘Psychiatric Service Dog’ instead of ‘PTSD Service Dog’ as well as having all the proper info on it). His main job is to reassure Andy that she is not alone and provide a constant companionship and feeling of safety - he is trained in basic guarding techniques to make sure that even when it is just Andy and him she feels protected. Rajar is very loyal to Andy and takes his job as her service dog as well as her companion very seriously - he has been taught all the basic or standard procedures of being a psychiatric service dog (ex, providing physical comfort or helping to guide the person to an area of less stress). All in all, he is also very well trained normally and will not hesitate to do something Andromeda commands. Over the years, Rajar has grown very close to Andy, sometimes sensing her feelings before she does. He is very happy to be her friend and help her at the same time.

Hope this is all good and so sorry for this wall of text!! I just wanted to get all my thoughts down I suppose might add more to 'skills/faults/other' over time. I almost like yours more though, simplicity is great sometimes...
If any of the pictures do not work, let me know! Will you start? :)

EDIT: Forgot to say I love your kiddos?? Charlie is honestly me in gym and Mallory is going to be great to interact with. X)

((Oh, okay :) That's fine. Playing two characters is actually pretty easy, or at least I think it is XD You can add a second character later if you'd like to and feel comfortable doing so, but don't feel pressured.))

Charlie rolled out of bed, feeling groggy and half asleep. He'd made the mistake of staying up till 3 that night (morning?) looking up information about the explosion that had happened a few days ago. The company his dad worked for had been one of their associates and he was a little surprised his dad hadn't mentioned the explosion to him or anything. So he'd psnet most of the night looking up stuff on his laptop, trying to figure out how the explosion had happened. Since the entire buidling had blown up, there wasn't exactly anything he could hack into.

Releasing a yawn, the teenager pulled a sweatshirt on over his head, shuffling out of the hotel room. His roomate Thomas had already left for the morning, probably raiding the dining lobby of all its food. When he reached the room himself, he was somewhat surprised to see everyone gathered around the flatscreen tv at the other end, a news report rolling. The volume was turned up so he could hear part of the report as he walked over.

"Reports are flooding in of attacks. The people who had been admitted into the hospital three days and released have succumbed to some sort of disease and many are blaiming it on the explosion that happened at Biotek Laboratories. We have some footage from one of the attacks that happened in the park. Viewers are advised that the footage we're about to play contains graphic violence and gore." As the camera footage rolled, the silence in the room was filled with terror. Charlie watched with wide eyes as a zombie-like creature raced towards a pedestrian, attacking them from behind and clawing them. He'd only seen this kind of thing in movies, especially the horror kind. The footage cut off and the woman who spoke earlier returned to the screen, several shades paler than before.

"That was just one of several attacks that have been reported. Police are doing their best to contain the attackers and the victims have been moved to a hospital for treatment. The Department of Defense has informed us that they will be sending-" The audio suddenly cut out as they teacher stood up and turned the television off. The students sat there, unnaturally quiet, thinking over what they had just heard and seen.

Clearing his throat, Mr. Anders stood up as well, glancing towards Ms. Hunt as he did so. They were the chaperones for this trip, seeing as how the two classes were visiting history and science museums, though right now they were probably regretting it a little. "Alright students, we're cutting our trip short. After breakfast, we're going to pack up all of our stuff and get on the buses. I'm sure the police and whoever else is handling the problem knows what they're doing, but your parents wouldn't be happy about you being here while it's all going on." he glanced at his watch before speaking again. "We'll leave at 10 o'clock, so that gives you all two hours to eat and pack up. The buses will be here then, so you'll need to be effective in your packing."

Charlie nodded, though he was basically already packed. He only took out what he'd needed, so he'd be done early. He glanced around at the other students, his eyes catching onto Andromeda and her dog. He didn't know her super well but knew enough that she'd probably be scared right now, just like everyone else. He worked up the courage to stand and walk over to her, sitting down on the coffee table across from her. He shoved his hands into his sweatshirt pocket, suddenly nervous.

"So, um, how are you handling all of this?" he asked her.

Andromeda was a light sleeper at times, so when she picked up on something falling to the ground in her shared hotel room, she felt herself slowly resurface from sleep and crack an eye open to assess the room. Rajar, who was at the foot of her bed, seemed to be stirring as well as Andy tiredly gazed around the room. Her eyes fell on her roommate, Chrissy, across the room and what seemed to be a pile of clothes that had fallen off her bed. Ah, so Chrissy must have rolled over and knocked them off, as Andromeda distinctly remembers seeing the same pile of clothes on Chrissy's bed while wondering how someone could sleep like that.

'Oh well', Andy thought, turning her eyes to her clock, 'At least it's not too early. It's bright out, for one thing.' Sitting up, the girl rubbed her eyes and swung her legs out over the edge of the bed, springing up. Rajar was now definitely awake, peering at her intently as she threw a black hoodie over her pajamas and quietly grabbed his vest and leash. That was when he knew they were moving and got up, trotting over to her and standing still so she could attach the vest and leash. With all that accomplished, Andromeda slipped on some shoes and quietly left her room, making her way to the dining lobby.

When she got there it was pretty empty, but there were still a few students here and there, flipping through channels on the big tv, grabbing a snack, or doing whatever else on their phones. After releasing a big yawn, Andy walked over to the 'snack counter' (free, small pieces of food, courtesy of the hotel), grabbed a muffin, and plopped herself on a couch a little ways away from the tv. She ate absently as more and more people woke up and appeared in the lobby, many going to crowd around the tv. After a few more moments of zoning-out, Andromeda realized the tv volume got louder and an even bigger crowd of people gathered than before. There were even some concerned faces she could make out among the mass.

'What's going on?', she thought, suddenly giving her rapt attention to the news report playing out. Everyone had gone quiet so all could hear what was being said on screen:
"Reports are flooding in of attacks. The people who had been admitted into the hospital three days and released have succumbed to some sort of disease and many are blaiming it on the explosion that happened at Biotek Laboratories. We have some footage from one of the attacks that happened in the park. Viewers are advised that the footage we're about to play contains graphic violence and gore."
The fear in the room was palpable as the footage played out. Andromeda felt her eyes widen and her breaths become shallower as she watched a zombie-like creature lunge at an innocent person, clawing them from behind. It was like a horror movie come to life, but that couldn't actually be a zombie, right? And what they were saying was that a disease had been spread by the explosion? They had all heard about the Biotek lab that had mysteriously exploded around three days prior, but there was said to be no cause for concern. As a small mercy, the screaming cut off abruptly and the news reporter continued, visibly shaken.

"That was just one of several attacks that have been reported. Police are doing their best to contain the attackers and the victims have been moved to a hospital for treatment. The Department of Defense has informed us that they will be sending-"
The audio cut off then, the screen going black. Looking around to see who had turned it off, and wondering if it was better to keep it off or if they should be hearing this, she saw it was one of the teachers. Ms. Hunt held the remote and shared a meaningful look with Mr. Anders, before he said that they should probably cut their trip a little short and head home by 10am, after breakfast. The teacher chaperons didn't seem incredibly worried, which was marginally reassuring.

Andromeda nodded slightly, not too worried about packing up seeing as she kept her stuff all in one place. She may offer to help her roommate though. Letting out a deep breath, she pat Rajar's head which was now in her lap after he sensed the mood of the room. Andromeda honestly didn't know what to think - was the media blowing things up again as they usually did? It didn't look like that, it looked serious. But where the attack had happened was quite far away, so if they left today they should be fine. "We'll be okay", she said to Rajar, not noticing the boy walking towards her until he sat down on the coffee table in front of her.

"Oh", she said, not expecting someone come up to her and talk. The boy was Charlie, if she could place the name correctly. Andy didn't know him incredibly well, but he looked pretty nervous or shaken up, so she decided to help with that by smiling good-naturedly as she usually did. "Well, I mean, I guess the same as everyone else? It was just...so unreal. That...thing even sort of looked like a zombie, which is pretty crazy, right?" Andy scratched her dog's ear and Rajar went from gazing at Charlie to closing his eyes in contentment. "I'm...scared, of course, but the report said it took place a good deal away, so if we leave soon we should be fine. Also, the media tends to blow things out of proportion, so hopefully that's what's happening here too. That's my thinking, anyways." She shrugged and tried to smile at him reassuringly.

"I'm guessing you're feeling the same? Heh, it sure is too early in the morning for this, huh?", she tried a small joke, but the fearful mood made it a bit more somber than it should have been.

((Hey, @AuguryDemon, sorry, just making sure you're subbed? ^^ I also forgot to say how great you set up the thread, it's really nice looking and explains what is happening perfectly! Thanks for the great start - and I hope mine is okay!))

((*facepalm* Wow, I continue to astound myself. Constantly. So it turns out when I'd got on yesterday I double checked that I was subscribed... and unsubscribed myself XD I was waiting for you to respond and you already had, I just never got the ping XD Sorry bout that. And yes, your response is perfect))

He chuckled nervously, glancing towards the now black TV and shivered a bit. The video of the attack was still replaying in his mind and he was just thankful that there hadn't been any audio. He didn't want to know what it sounded like when someone... Charlie swallowed thickly, a skin a shade pale now. He returned his attention to Andromeda and nodded.

"That's pretty true. The media does like to do that. Course, they've never really had zombies or anything in the city, I don't think. But, um, maybe it was just a prank or something. Like, the whole thing was staged and it's fake and stuff." His words sounded fake even fo his own ears. You couldn't fake that kind of stuff, and to have several people attacked by the same people who been near the Biotek Labs when it exploded? Too much of a coincidence.

Smiling weakly at her attempt for a joke, Charlie ran a nervous hand through his hair, glancing once more towards the TV. He ripped his gaze away again, somewhat hating himself for constantly looking at it. "So, um, we should probably get breakfast. Wouldn't want Thomas eating everything before we get the chance to grab a bite."
