@GiftOfArtemis ( ( no worries there. I love the way that played out.))

Faye's hand shot up in the air as Mrs. Opal helped the young student up. "Excuse me, Mrs. Opal. It wasn't her fault. I think a couple kids are just jealous that they aren't as smart as her." Her eyes bore holes through the heads of a few students. If looks could kill. The snickers quieted down as the wyrm child spoke. Some heated glares were now directed at the girl.

"Snitch." One girl breathed. "She didn't even get hurt. I could have done worse." All was muttered under the preteens breath, only audible to those with super hearing.

Another hand was raised toward the back, "Mrs. Opal. Harriet is the one who tripped her. I heard her admit it clearly." This girl was a close friend of Faye's. The first one she had when coming here. And by the looks of her she was for sure a hyppogriff's offspring. From her long curved nails, feathery hair, black wings, and long horse tail trailing behind her, it was easy to see.

The teacher shook her head at the duo. They were always the ones to tell her about the wrongs other students did. It couldn't be helped. "Miss Harriet Richards, please see me after class. I won't keep you long."

"Yes ma'am." Came the soft reply.

--

Jason gently reached out to take her schedule. The map was laid on his desk. The young man looked between the two papers, oblivious to the other students that had begun to file in. He soon looked back to Maeve. "I'm actually in most of these classes myself, and the ones we don't share, I am only a couple classes away from. It will be quite easy to escort you, Miss Maeve."

He smiled and handed her papers back. It soon became rather crowded in the room now. While Advanced Mathematics wasn't a required course, many of the older students took it for extra credits. It would help them acquire a good job in the future. The teacher came in and began to straighten a few books at her desk. Jason leaned closer to Maeve, lowering his voice to a whisper. "Mr. Naga is pretty strict, but he's one of the smartest people here. If you need help, he'll assign you a tutor. You just need to ask him. One warning though, I wouldn't come very late to this class. He'll overload you with homework as punishment."

--

Ayala had shrunken back as the ring leader stepped forward to take away her hat. Only, the cap remained in place. Upon raising her gaze, she noticed Beck standing in front of her. Her face flushed as she heard him defend her. Beckham was protecting her. A smile spread across her lips as the boy turned and opened his wings with a snap. Her heart skipped a beat. Seeing his wings spread out fully only improved his image in her mind. She couldn't stop smiling as they strode down the hall away from the girls. Sure they would probably give her grief when she was alone, but that didn't matter now. What mattered most to her was the fact that she had been defended by the most handsome guy in school.

His nickname for her made her giggle. "T-thank you Beckham. That was n-nice of you to do that, when you d-didn't have to." She blushed again, thinking back to his responses to the selkies hurtful remarks. They were nearly to class now. However the tardy bell could ring at any moment. Ah, with any luck, their hastened steps would carry them to class before the bell went off.

((UGH I hate my computer! I has my whole response typed out and poof. It crashes. Fun. So I was wondering if there were any monster specific classes at the school. Like blending in 101 and mythological heritage classes or something))

Rexa scooted in next to Faye, whispering "Thanks." With a sheepish smile. Class went by quickly. Rexa wanted to talk to Faye but she was already on bad terms with Mrs. Opal, so she decided not to push it. When the bell ring, she pack her stuff up and stood.

---

Maeve took note of everything Jason said. Being late might be an issue. Maeve loved to swim in the morning, provided she could find somewhere. There was a lot of woods surrounding the school. She even believed she could get to the coast from here. Of course a school full of selkies would have some kind of access to the ocean.

"I'm glad I met you!" Maeve said as the bell rang. She stood up, shouldering her backpack. "The school was so big, I was getting a bit worried about getting lost. Where to next?" She asked, jotting down the homework real quick.

---

"No need to thank me, Doc." Beck winked again, ushering Faye to class. He held the door for her and once they were in, pulled out a chair for her. He took the seat to her left.

They were a bit tardy, but the selkies were even later and received the worse end of Spangles wrath. Annabelle glared daggers at Beck, but he didn't seem to notice.

Beck spent most of class doodling in his sketch book. On his flight this morning he had seen a Stellar's sea eagle by the coast. He tried to follow it to its nest, but the sun rose and he knew he had to head to school. He was trying to get the beak right when the bell rang. He closed the sketch pad and stretched.

"I'll walk you to your next class, Aya." He grinned.

( ( sure. I imagined they would at least have a class where they could practice supernatural powers safely. Then a history class specifically about the different mythical beasts...and a class about staying safe in the real world would probably be necessary.))

Faye smiled as she mouthed 'You're welcome'. Class was over quickly for her. At least there wasn't a lot of homework for this class. She took her time putting her books away, allowing most of the rush of students to pass. The backpack was flung over her shoulder as she stood. Faye turned to smile at the younger girl to her right. "You all right? That was a hard fall."

--

Jason yawned as he reached overhead to stretch out the kinks in his back. These desks weren't made for someone of his stature. Carefully he stood, not wanting to upset any desks in the process. He ignored the few students who eyed him warily. They were cowards, afraid of what they saw in their supernatural practice class. Ah, it didn't matter to him. With a smile he led the way out to the hall. The other students naturally kept a couple feet away from him.

"Now, we head down to mythic culture class. Ms. Pike is pretty chill. She give a normal amount of homework, and it isn't too hard. She doesn't like questions though, and absolutely hates it when we talk in class. I heard she was a werewolf, which would explain why she's not here a few days each month." He slowed his long stride, making sure Maeve could keep up. It wasn't a long walk to the class, so they wouldn't need to rush. He paused a moment to face the small girl fully. "Did you need to drop any books off before we get there?"

--

Ayala felt safe with him. He was such a gentleman. She jotted down notes as the teacher spoke, they luckily had gotten here just as the bell was ringing. She almost felt sorry for the three selkie girls. They had been lectured in front of the whole class and given detention slips. Knowing them they'd sneak out of detention anyway though. She glanced over at Beck to find him sketching a bird. It closely resembled a Stella's Sea hawk. Hmm, she hadn't seen one of those in a while. Perhaps there was one nearby.

Finally the bell rang, signaling that class was over. Aya quickly put her things away as she stood. Beck's offer was really tempting, but why would he be following her around today? "I'd r-really like that. I have PE next, so it's t-to the locker room with m-me." And straight into the lair of those selkies. It seemed to be their personal dream in life to make every other student feel terrible. Everything from switching shampoos to ruining clothes.

((Oh my gosh, iPad, did you really autocorrect that to *stellas* sea hawk

Also, I have this idea in my head that unicorns are sorta rare. Is Aya like the only unicorn at school?))

Beck frowned, seeing the smirk on Annabelle's face. She knew Beck couldn't follow Aya into the female locker room. Plus, Beck had mythic culture next. He sighed. He couldn't fight all her battles for her.

He walked with Aya to the PE hallway, but the second bell rang and he had to get to Pikes class. He smiled, putting his hand on her shoulder and handed her books back. "Find me at lunch, okay Aya?" And like that he was gone.

---

Maeve giggled a bit as Jason stretched. He was so tall. Her giggle turned into a blush that covered her face in bright red when she noticed how muscled he was. His shirt came up a bit when he stretched and she tried to look away. Her eyes snapped up from his midsection to his face as he bang speaking. Oh gods, she hopped he didn't notice.

She brushed her hair behind her ear. It was shoulder length, but the curly fluffiness of it kept it from looking like a bob. "Mythic culture, huh? That sounds interesting." She said, not quite meeting his eyes.

Maeve followed Jason to the class. The hall was crowded and Maeve couldn't help but try to look everywhere at once. Wings, horns, scales were everywhere. She saw people who looked like they were covered in stone. She tried to to stare, but she couldn't help herself. She had always thought of herself as a freak, but these people, being around them made her feel normal. They were beautiful, each in their own way.

She was looking for other Kelpies like herself when she ran into a brick wall. Her math book she had just gotten tumbled out of her hands to the floor and to someone's feet. She bent to pick it up when she realized she hadn't run into a wall at all, she had run face first into Jason's chest. As if she hadn't blushed enough today.

----

Rexa laughed. "I'm a hard girl." She pointed to her arm and where she pointed hardened to grey stone. She brushed a strand of black hair behind her ear. "Only thing hurt is my pride." She chuckled again. She didn't really harbor a grudge against the kids that picked on her, it must be weird for them with her age. If this made them feel better, they were the ones with something wrong.

"I have PE next." Rexa said. Everyone at the school knew what PE really meant. Rexa figured they called it PE for nostalgic purposes. PE was mixed with all the grades, so it was the only place Rexa didn't feel like a freak among freaks.

@GiftOfArtemis ((Lol I wasn't sure if that was on purpose or not, lol. Oh well. And yeah, I would say unicorns are rare. They would have been hunted the most due to the healing properties in their horns. I think we should have an older woman unicorn as the nurse though. It would make sense. And women are more common than men for unicorns.))

Faye laughed as she walked out of class with Rexa. So hard skin it was then, hard enough to cracked the floor tile too. A quick glance back told her that Harriet was standing at Mrs. Opal's desk. Served the girl right. Ah so they would part ways here. She followed Rexa a little ways until another hallway opened to the left.

"I've got math class next. Wish me luck. I can't be late." The girl took off down the hall. She'd already been late to class a couple times, a third time would earn her detention. However she did have a reputation to uphold. If one of the boys dared her to try something she would.

--

Jason had reached out to steady Maeve as she ran straight into him. Perhaps he had stopped too soon. "Are you all right?" He asked slightly worried. She had hit him pretty hard, not that he felt too much of it. He was lucky he was so built, it got him out of trouble many times. He quickly crouched down to help her gather her books. Why did this have to happen all the time. Though, her blushing face made the accident worth while.

Ah, she was so cute when embarrassed. But what caused her to blush so hard? She only ran into his chest. With all his knowledge, Jason could grasp the workings of a woman's mind. After her things were gathered, he straightened up. " I'm sorry, I can be a bit unaware of how close objects are. You aren't hurt are you?"

--

Ayala nodded as her books were returned to her. She was sad to see him go, but having him in the ladies locker room would be disastrous. A blush crept up her cheeks as she heard him ask for her to be with him for lunch. There would be one more class after this one, but it was only a safety 101 class. Those didn't last long. A timid hand waved as he walked off.

Aya couldn't stop herself from smiling as she turned to make her way to the locker room. Silently, she hoped that the selkies wouldn't harass her. Like that wouldn't happen, she was the only unicorn student here. She was alone, in a sea of other people. At least there was another full blood unicorn here though. Ayala was lucky enough to discover the school nurse was also a unicorn. However, she could hide any sign of a horn, and appeared completely human. She had it easy. Aya didn't have the ability to hide that mark. She would have to suffer through the stares and jokes all through PE now.

The girl sighed as she found her locker and opened it. Her clothes were changed one by one. It ended with her cap. This teacher made each student wear a sweat band. She said it kept hair from sticking to one's face. However it also meant that Ayala's mark would be on display for the next half hour.

"I'm alright." Maeve said, with an easy smile. Her hair had fallen into her face with the collision and she brushed it behind her ear quickly. "Mythic cultures!" She said with determination. "Let's go!"

Maev followed Jason into class. She sat next to him again, this time to the left. She had PE with Jason after this and then lunch. Then she had English, science (which she thought was with Jason) and last was art. She was thumbing through the Mythic textbook when she heard a loud "Jason!" Behind her.

It was a handsome guy, really handsome. His hair was light brown and fluffy. It looked super soft. Trailing behind him was a beautiful pair of wings, soft brown like his hair and spotted with white and black speckles. Maeve couldn't help but let out a little sigh of "wow".

He pulled out a chair to the right of Jason. "Hey did you do the homework because I skipped twelve and- whoa brother!" He slapped Jason on the back, catching notice of Maeve. He looked back and forth between Jason and Maeve, his eyebrows waggling. "Who is this?" His eyes darted to Maeve's books. "Are you new? I'm Beck." He stuck his hand out.

Maeve looked back and forth between his face and his hand. Oh brother. She took it lightly and awkwardly shook it. "I'm Maeve. This is my first day."

---

Rexa changed into her gym clothes. They were too big. She braided her hair and put on her sweatband. Her wings folded against her back, under her shirt. She hated her wings, they were huge. She couldn't even use them to fly, they just seemed to flop around and then she crashed.

((Feel free to correct me in my description of the gym.))

The gym was unlike any gym at any other school that Rexa had ever heard of. It was easily the size of three gyms and the tallest building in the school. Half of the gym was a deep pool, big enough to house a couple killer whales. The area of the gym that wasn't filled with water was filled with rock climbing walls (on steroids) training dummies and other equipment.

Students were already filling the gym. Winged students were flying into the special, four stories of rafters that the gym had. Everything up there was crazy, and that's why Rexa preferred to exercise on the ground. Things swung from the roof, hoops were suspended to fly through, bars to weave between and of course, dozens of other avian students to bump into. No thanks.

Faye rushed into math class with a few minutes to spare. Phew that was close. PE after this, then lunch. Well, today hadn't been entirely smooth, but enjoyable nonetheless. And she had been able to talk with the young gargoyle. It still amazed Faye that such a young student had been able to skip several grades with hard work alone. Seeing the familiar face of her long time friend, Faye skipped over to sit by her side. Ah, math class was so boring.

--

Jason nodded as he led the remainder of the way to class. At least she hadn't been hurt. That was so good to hear. He carefully slid into his seat, and stretched his legs out in front of him. It wouldn't take much for him to be able to kick the seat in front of him. His head turned lazily at the sudden shout of his name. "Beck. Good to see you in class."

The Shishi boy offered a hand to perform a short bro handshake. Again it appeared that Beck needed help with homework. Tsk, tsk, Jason shook his head from side to side, about to speak his mind on the matter. A hand clapping his shoulder stopped his voice short. A long sigh was heaved as Maeve and Beck shook hands across his desk. After a moment of the shake, Jason gripped a wrist of both people and pulled their clasped hands apart. "Yes, she's new. Which means she's off limits to everyone until she settles in."

His tone of voice was low, almost possessive. The gent didn't notice how irritated he'd been seeing Beck become so friendly with Maeve. Jason released his slightly too tight grip and sank back into his chair with a sigh. Ugh, he just made an jerk of himself didn't he? So much for impressing her. Wait didn't Beck have his eye on another girl? Ack, he did, so there wasn't even a reason for him to be jealous. Well, so much for off limits. "I have my notes. You may look over them during lunch."

Ayala chewed on her lip, wishing she could sink into the ground. Her headband was securely in place and she was hesitating to enter the gym. Everyone would stare. Just like last year, she would be the only unicorn. Well, she'd get in trouble if she waited any longer. She stared at the ground as she moved to a small table in the corner, right by the edge of the pool. She never did like the water. Aya couldn't even swim. She preferred to be securely on the ground.

The other students whispered among themselves about the unicorn child. Why was her kind so rare? What made her walk as if she were invisible? Did she have some terrible secret to hide? Was she the reason unicorns were rare? Ayala heard and walked on. So far, she had been lucky to not meet the selkies, but of course, the table she would be working at was next to the pool. This was a very new addition to the gym court. A place where the only other secret unicorn was seen. It was a healing table, one that would help Aya hone in on her skills as a healer.

Maeve startled a bit when Jason's hand clamped onto hers, but she eased back a bit. Beck didn't seem surprised in the least. "Off limits?" Maeve mumbled to herself.

Beck clasped his hand to Jason's shoulder. "Just a handshake, brother. Nothing more." He smiled, his eyes twinkling like he knew something Maeve didn't. Shes all yours, Jace. he said, using his telepathy for a more private conversation.

Becks face cheered up. Maeve couldn't help but smile at how infectious this kid was. "Cool! I just need twelve though, I'm too smart to need help." He teased.

A woman came in and Maeve assumed she was Mrs. Pike. Her hair was thick and brown and she was built rather stocky. She looked more like wrestler than a teacher.

Throughout the lesson, Maeve couldn't help but notice Beck zoning off. It looked like he was in a trance or sleeping with his eyes open.

Hey Doc. Did the seaweed brains give you any problems? Aya wasn't far, but the further away the subject was, the more he needed to concentrate. Good thing it was just Mythic cultures and he could zone out. Once he found Aya's familiar brain waves in the crowded gym, he waited for her to send back a response.

---

Rexa delivered a roundhouse kick to the dummy in front of her. She slid under another, coming up behind it and kicking it to the floor. She turned to punch a third, but it swung back, hitting her hard and knocking her small frame to the floor. She concentrated hard, keeping her skin from turning. That was enough of that.

There was a new table Rexa wanted to try. It was full of eerily human like dummies. They had a machine inside their fleshy bodies that created a pulse and circulated the gross fake blood throughout their veins. A blonde girl stood at the table already. Rexa eyed her curiously. Her head was adorned with a star. Rexa couldn't recall seeing any other students with forehead stars.

Rexa focused on her own dummy, two chairs down. She laid her hands on it. Rexa's hand grew cold, but soon the feeling passed into the flesh in front of her. There was a crackling noise as a spot on the dummies chest became covered in rough concrete like stone. Rexa was disappointed. It was only a small spot.

She put her hands back on it, trying to coax the stone off. Nothing. She sighed, trying harder. Still, nada. She squeezed her eyes shut and grit her teeth but the stone spot stayed. She sighed, sitting down, exhausted.

Jason couldn't stop himself from groaning as he heard Beck's voice echo through his mind. Since when had he been so territorial over a girl? They always left him anyway. Usually after seeing him in PE or after a guy like Beck stole them away. Not that Beck would do anything like that. He knew his long time friend had his mind on a certain girl. Unicorns were quite pretty things, but delicate. Hense the reason he hadn't made a move for Ayala himself.

Jason soon focused on the teacher. The large woman was definitely a presence, she wouldn't be one to let bad behavior slide. Even Jason didn't want to tangle with the Pike. The lesson soon began, and Jason diligently took notes. His glasses were constantly pushed up further on the bridge of his nose. Ugh, these things were so annoying. It wasn't like he needed them, it was just a way the teachers could be sure his keen sight wouldn't read the answers off the teachers text book.

A side glance toward his right made him roll his eyes. Beck was once more using his telepathy during class. It was a wonder that he still had good grades. From the look of it, the winged boy was speaking with someone further away. So he wasn't just reading the teachers mind. That was a relief. It didn't take long for Jason to think of a certain unicorn that may be startled out of her mind right now.

Mythic Culture was an easy class for the shishi. He had read most of the libraries literature on the topic over the summer. That's how he excelled in classes. Over the summer break he would choose a topic and study everything there was about it. The notes were merely a formality, in case his friends needed help. The bell rang, signaling class was over. Well, now to PE. Jason wasn't too thrilled to again be ogled at and avoided. And this would probably end any start of friendship with Maeve. May as well get it over with. Before packing up his notebook, he ripped out a sheet of paper and handed it to Beck. "This should be all you need for twelve. Let me know if I missed anything." An unlikely option.

--

Faye nearly cheered when the bell rang. Finally the class was over. She packed up her things before pausing to talk with Gabby, the hyppogriff girl. Apparently Harriet had to clean one of the girls rest rooms after school was out. Hah, served the girl right. They chatted and walked down the hall together. Next would be Mythic Culture. Again, boring. Well, unless it pertained to wyrms. Then it was exciting.

"Ugh, her forehead is so wide." "That's why the scar is there dummy. It takes up the wasted space." "Yeah, cause there certainly isn't a brain behind that skull." The comments had begun a couple moments ago. The group of selkie girls had stride in and made a beeline for the pool. They lived to get into the water, and to torment those who they viewed as ugly. Right now they were whispering among themselves. None of the teachers scolded them. Somehow it didn't seem right to berate such a pretty girl, not to mention they had ways of talking out of punishments.

Ayala tried to push the hurtful comments out of her mind. She placed a hand on the gaping flesh wound that was bleeding badly. She closed her eyes, trying to focus her energy into her hands. A deep breath...slowly a bluish light was glowing between her hand and the gash. Unknown to her was that the circle mark inside the star on her forehead glowed softly as well. The blood slowed as the wound began to heal from the inside. Muscle was repaired, coming together without forming scar tissue.

Just as the wound became just a shallow cut, her concentration was broken by a voice. She jumped to the side looking around for the culprit. It only took her a moment to realize Beck had just used telepathy. She sighed placing a hand over her chest, that had been twice he scared the snot out of her. I wish you wouldn't call them names. It is unnecessary. They can't be all bad, I'm sure they are just working through a few issues. So far they haven't bothered to do more than spread a few rumors and comments. Aren't you supposed to be in class?

I think I was being nice. I was implying they actually had brains. Beck zoned back to class for a moment as Pike walked by, eyeing him suspiciously. He returned to Aya. I can be in two places at once Doc. Oh, and there's a new girl. I think she's gonna sit with us at lunch, you'll like her. Well, gotta go!

---

The bell rang and Rexa panicked a little. Her dummy was still in bad shape. She couldn't make the stone go away. At least the girl with the mark on her forehead seemed to be having some luck, but she didn't seem to notice the bell ring. She was a bit zoned out, making a face like she was listening to something. Rexa shook it off and approached her anyways.

"Hey." She waved her hand in the girls face. "Uh, I- could you fix my dummy?" She pointed to the stone over its heart. She looked down at her feet, a bit of sadness on her face. "I can't get it back to normal. I'm not good with my powers like you are."

---

Maeve smiled as Jason handed Beck his notes. The winged boy winked a quick "Thanks! I've got to go get something from my locker, meet you in PE!" And like that he was off.

Maeve couldn't help but notice how uncomfortable Jason had been during class, but she brushed it off. Maybe he didn't like the way she was clinging to him. It was a big scary school of monsters, but Maeve made the decision to suck it up and be more independent.

She suddenly realized she was standing there, looking motivated with her hands on her hips and a weird smile on her face. She gasped, dropping her hands and picking up her books. Jason probably thought she was a psycho. Maybe she would show her independence tomorrow. She had no idea of how to get to gym. She shouldered her back pack, smiling to Jason.

"Alright, uh, show me the way to gym!" She said.
