He was one of the first there and grabbed a place easily. He was a bit disappointed he wouldn't get to see any cool sculptures but it'd let him concentrate better. He thought of what his subject would be, staring out into space as he went through a list of things he could sculpt. He nearly lit up when he finally had the perfect idea, not too prideful but something he could actually do. He took up his tools and set to work carving a large ornamental lamp, something he'd seen in one of the books the clan's architect had, usually placed before important buildings.

What could she carve? She decided to let her instinct guide her, closed her eyes and began slicing. Her powerful claws weren't used to ice, but they did the work. When she looked again there were tiny pieces of ice everywhere, and in front of her, standing and sparkling in the sun, a statue. The wildclaw held her breath, stunned. It was the statue of a big tree. Carved on its trunk there were some glowing mushrooms, like the thousands she saw every single day back home in the Tangled Woods. The ice and the Sun made them shine as if they were real. There were also a few flowers here and there, and some shimmering pinecones on the branches. "It's beautiful" she whispered, and a big smile spread on her face.

Settling her wings along her back, Soulfire shifted her Pearl into a pocket of her robe and got into line to sign-up. Half an hour later, the older Pearlcatcher surveyed the block of ice she had been given to carve. Truthfully, she did in fact have an artistic bent, but most of her Clan assumed that since she came from Plague Flight she knew nothing about such "cerebral" pursuits. Moving around the block, Soulfire closed her eyes, running her claws over it's surface. Hmmm... that felt like a wing, and that little bulge could be a mountain ledge.... maybe.... The female dragon's eyes flew open and she smiled brilliantly. She had it! Grabbing the tools provided, Soulfire began to move quickly around the block. It was disappointing she couldn't use magic, but needs must.... The caving took all day. She worked slowly and carefully, knowing that a smaller, better piece was far preferable to a quickly--and shoddily--done larger structure. As the sun stated to lower towards the hoizon, singling time, Soulfire stepped back from her masterpiece. The dragon was perched, wings outspread, on top of a mountain crag. The mountain had been carved with a few trails and ledges, with the suggestion of bushes, but the main focus of the piece was the dragon. Long, sinuous, and proud, he stood with his neck arched, surveying a domain only he could see. The small ears suggested who he might be, but Soulfire had taken liberties with the form, following the lines of the ice, rather than trying to force an unnatural shape out of the block. As a result, the dragon seemed to both sit atop his crag, and also be a part of it, at one with the landscape around him. His head had been exquisitely carved, small ears perked to hear the slightest sound, eyes staring out at the landscape, and each scale lovingly depicted. His tail wrapped around his back, merging with the ice of the mountain. Soulfire smiled in delight. She had timed it just right. As the Judges headed over to her area, the light of the setting sun touched the top of her sculpture, causing it to glow with an inner, almost otherworldly light....

Soulfire landed on the ground in front of the Ice Sculpting Tent, feeling extremely nervous. She was not, by rule, an artist--at least, none of her Clan knew that she was--but neither was anyone else in the Clan, and they needed someone for this Event. Settling her wings along her back, Soulfire shifted her Pearl into a pocket of her robe and got into line to sign-up.

She was pleased to have been elected for this event. Ice sculptures were beautiful and amazing, yes -- but more than anything, they were a science. An exact science, of angles and tools and carefully setting pieces together, convincing them to stick. This was something she could do. Android paced somewhat more hyper-actively beside her. He was busy sketching, going over tools, checking and rechecking rules. That was his personality, after all, more the mad scientist type. That was alright. When Gynoid became too clinical or lacked the creativity to finish a task, Android could jump in with some convoluted idea. They balanced each other out well, and that was why Gynoid was so confident that they would win. She approached her frenzied partner and snatched one of his sketches -- a large and decorative shield with the Ice flight symbol displayed in the middle, accompanied by small charms of the other flights' symbols to be attached onto the sides. "Okay," she said, a confident glint in her eye, "let's do this."
