A Necrolocke

For many dragons raised under the shadow of the Tower, it is the ultimate ambition to attempt the Trials and become a Necromancer in service of the Plaguebringer, the Mother. But the Trials are, well, trying, and not all those who attempt them survive, and among those, not all succeed. And some, it is rumored, emerge from them with a far darker power than they initially bargained for.

Special Rules -----

Necrolocke can be played on three difficulty levels: Easy, Normal, and Hard.

Within the lore, the difficulty level is determined by how close your dragon sits to the edge of the Wrymwound to meditate and conduct their trials. The closer the dragon sits to the Wrymwound, the harder the difficulty level.
This choice is left up to you unless your dragon has Primal eyes, in which case they MUST play on Hard mode.

If an event happens that would insta-kill your dragon, you have an opportunity to pray to Plaguebringer to avert your fate. Throw an apparel item into Baldwin.

Black slime indicates Plaguebringer has rewarded your faith and answered your prayer and you may proceed with your trials as normal. Your dragon is now eligible to take Dark Sclera regardless of the outcome of your trials.
While slime indicates Plagubringer has averted your immediate fate but has found you unworthy. Another agent has acted to save you. Your dragon has survived but has become a Wraith. Your trials end here.
Grey slime indicates your dragon has perished despite its prayers. Your trials end here. Exalt the dragon.

At any point you may decide to godmod your dragon into passing a trial, even if an event has happened that would otherwise kill your dragon and/or cause them to fail.

You can grant an instant success to your dragon only one time, however the dragon will now be immune to events that would otherwise insta-kill your dragon.
Should your dragon otherwise pass the remaining trials they will become a LICH.
If they do not pass the remaining trials within 23 days they are consumed by the Shade. Exalt the dragon.

If you'd like to run multiple Necrolockes at the same time (i.e. send multiple dragons through the trials at once), you can use Crim's Collection Cart in lieu of Pinkerton for your sign from Mother during the first trial. See the Trial of Infection rules for the applicable instructions for simultaneous Necrolocke attempts.
(optional) For those writing lore for each day, consider using the Pinkerton drop (during the first trial) or one of Tomo's daily trivia questions as a writing prompt.
Picking Your Dragon -----

Throw a food, material, or trinket item into Baldwin’s Cauldron. The color of material you get will determine the eye type of your dragon. Certain eye types will give you advantages depending on the trial.

Green - Uncommon
Yellow - Unusual
Orange - Rare
Red - Faceted
Purple - Multigaze
Blue - Primal

If you don’t like your rng eye type you can default to Common eyes, but you can’t choose any other eye type. Common eyes do not confer any advantages or disadvantages during the trials.
Obtain a level 1 dragon from the AH with the correct eye type. All breeds and elements are allowed. This dragon should NOT be a Necromancer
The dragon can be an adult or a hatchling, but hatchlings may receive penalties during the second trial.
Eye Type -----

Uncommon eyes: - Advantage during the Trial of Infection (first trial)

Your sign from Mother can come from Pinkerton OR Swipp.
The same difficulty rules for Pinkerton also apply for Swipp.
You can check Swipp for signs from Mother multiple times a day.
If you are playing on Hard mode and you see a bone-related trade, you can throw an equivalent item into Baldwin instead of the trade item.

Unusual eyes - Advantage during the Trial of Survival (second trial):

Regardless of your difficulty level, you may use one (1) health potion a day on any one dragon.
If/when your Faith and/or Determination dragon are Lvl 5 and above, instead of a daily health potion you can choose instead to teach them MEDITATE and BOLSTER or WARD, and can cast on your dragon in addition to defending.
Note that Faith and Determination dragons cannot cast BOLSTER or WARD on each other.
These advantages do NOT apply during the third trial (i.e. you may not cast BOLSTER or WARD during the third trial).

Rare Eyes - Advantage during the Trial of Contagion (third trial):

Your dragon is allowed to use one (1) Major Health potion on any dragon during the final trial.

Faceted Eyes - Major advantage during the Trial of Infection (first trial):

If an event happens that would insta-kill your dragon, or if you wish to try and pass your first trial at any time, you can try to look for another way forward.
Go to Higher or Lower in the Fairgrounds and play a single round.
If you guess correctly, you have survived and have also passed the first trial.
If you guess incorrectly you have failed to see another way forward. If an event has happened to insta-kill your dragon then you have died. Your trials end here. Exalt the dragon. If you tried to pass your first trial, then you have not succeeded and must continue taking the first trial as normal.
You may only attempt to see another way forward a single time.

Multigaze - Major advantage during the Trial of Survival (second trial):

If an event happens that would insta-kill your dragon, or if you wish to try and pass your second trial at any time, you can try to force your way to victory.
Go to Higher or Lower in the Fairgrounds and play a single round.
If you guess correctly, you have survived and have also passed the second trial.
If you guess incorrectly you have failed to force your way through. If an event has happened to insta-kill your dragon then you have died. Your trials end here. Exalt the dragon. If you tried to pass your second trial, then you have not succeeded and must continue taking the second trial as normal.
You may only attempt to force your way forward a single time.

Primal eyes - Major advantage during all trials:

If an event happens that would insta-kill your dragon during any trial, or if you wish to try and pass any trial at any time, you can try to display your mastery in an instant.
Go to Higher or Lower in the Fairgrounds and play a single round.
If you guess correctly, you have survived and have also passed your current trial
If you guess incorrectly you have failed to display your mastery. If an event has happened to insta-kill your dragon then you have died. Your trials end here. Exalt the dragon. If you tried to pass your trial, then you have failed and your dragon has become a Ghoul.
You may attempt to display your mastery one time per trial (or a total of three attempts).

Eye Drops -----

During the Trial of Infection (first trial):

If you receive the BERSERKER battle item from Pinkerton then your dragon is eligible to take Glowing Eyes, regardless of the outcome of the other trials. Your dragon may proceed to the next trial immediately.

During the Trial of Survival (second trial):

If you receive the BERSERKER battle item drop in the Coli then your dragon is eligible to take Glowing Eyes regardless of the outcome of the other trials. Your dragon may proceed to the next trial.
If all three of your dragons have a status effect at the same time then your dragon is eligible to take Innocent eyes regardless of the outcome of the trials.
If a VIAL OF HYPNOTIC SIGHT drops in the Coli then your dragon is eligible to take Swirl Eyes regardless of the outcome of the trials.
If a SCRATCH or SHRED battle stone drops in the Coli your dragon is eligible to take Bright Eyes regardless of the outcome of the trials
If any FAMILIAR drops in the Coli your dragon is eligible to take Goat Eyes regardless of the outcome of the trials.
If a VISTA or SCENE drops in the Coli your dragon is eligible to take Pastel Eyes regardless of the outcome of the trials.

Trial of Contagion (third trial):

The special rules from the second trial also apply to the third trial.

If your dragon qualifies for multiple special eye types, you may choose which eye type they ultimately take. You may also choose not to take any special eye type and keep the eyes that the dragon started the trials with.
Optional fun rule: If your dragon gets a FAMILIAR drop and chooses to take Goat Eyes, consider making the dropped Familiar the permanent familiar of the dragon.
Trial of Infection ----- Your dragon must wait for Mother to touch their flesh with plague as a sign they are worthy to attempt the second trial. This trial uses Pinkerton's Plundered Pile as a mechanic

Every day, draw an item from Pinkerton. If the item qualifies as a sign from Mother, then your flesh has been touched with plague and you have passed your first trial. The items that qualify as signs from Mother depend on the difficulty level you’ve chosen.

Easy: Necromantic symbols, Coliseum Plague Familiars, Materials and Food dropped by Coliseum Plague Familiars, and Plague items
Normal: Necromantic symbols and Coliseum Plague Familiars
Hard: Same items as Normal. However if you draw an item with any type of bone (Birdskull apparel, bone fragments, etc), you must throw the item into Baldwin to determine if your dragon survives the brush with death. Low rarity transmutation materials (Green colors or Grey slime) indicate your dragon has died. Your trials end here. Exalt the dragon. Any other color or rarity indicates the fumes of the Wrymwound have triggered a mutation and your dragon is eligible to take Multigaze regardless of the outcome of the trials. If the bone item is also an apparel item, it counts as a sign from Mother and your dragon may proceed to the next trial.

If you receive an AMBUSH battle item your dragon has not been able to withstand the deprivations and hardships of meditating near the Wrymwound and has died. Your trials end here. Exalt the dragon.
If your dragon still hasn’t received a sign from Mother by the 23rd day, they have failed the first trial. Your trials end here, but your dragon does not have to be exalted and can seek a new life path.
If you're running multiple Necrolockes at the same time (i.e. sending multiple dragons through the trials at once), you can use Crim's Collection Cart in lieu of Pinkerton for your sign from Mother.

When using Crim, the first trade offer will apply to your first Necrolocke attempt, the second trade offer will apply to your second Necrolocke attempt, etc.
Note that Crim's pool of trades is Much Larger than Pinkerton's. The reference box of searchable signs from Mother found below will only apply to a small fraction of qualifying signs from Crim.
You'll have to use the Game Database and the Necromancer Lore post to determine if your trade qualifies as a sign from Mother.
Due to this larger pool, ANY Plague battle stone indicates your dragon has not been able to withstand the deprivations and hardships of meditating near the Wrymwound and has died. Your trials end here. Exalt the dragon.

Eye rules reminder:

If your dragon has Uncommon eyes then they are more susceptible to Mother’s Touch. Your sign from Mother can come from Pinkerton OR Swipp. Same difficulty rules apply. If playing on Hard Mode you can throw an equivalent item into Baldwin's cauldron instead of the trade item itself.
If you receive the BERSERKER battle item then your dragon has broken through its limitations and is eligible to take Glowing Eyes, regardless of the outcome of the other trials. Your dragon may proceed to the next trial immediately. Trial of Survival ----- The second trial is represented by surviving daily Coli battles. Before you begin you must get two more dragons to represent Faith and Determination.

Your Faith and Determination dragons are symbolic protectors of your trial dragon and are meant to act as damage sponges in the Coli. It doesn't matter where these dragons come from (AH, bred fodder, etc), but they should start at lvl 1 and their breed is partially determined by RNG.
Throw an Apparel item into Baldwin to determine the breed class of your Faith and Determination dragons. Note that every breed has its own base battle stats, which will affect how well it takes physical damage, magical damage, and how likely it is to dodge attacks.

Grey Slime: Choose one physical dragon (Scratch attacks) and one magical dragon (Contuse attacks)
White Slime: Choose two magical dragons (Contuse attacks)
Black Slime: Choose two physical dragons (Scratch attacks)

The dragon taking the trials should be placed in the middle of the battle formation, with the dragons representing Faith and Determination flanking them on either side.
Choose the Coli venue that corresponds to your dragon’s level.
Your Faith and Determination dragons CANNOT ATTACK. They can only DEFEND. ALL attacks must come from the dragon taking the trials.
While battling in the Coli you CANNOT end a battle by refreshing the page or clicking out of the window.
If your dragon FLEEs they automatically fail their second trial and become a Ghoul.
If at any point you receive the below Coli drops, your dragon has mastered its plague and has passed the second trial:

Any Plague familiar
Plague battle item (Vile bolt, Pestilent Slash, Diseased Might or Acuity Fragment, Contaminate)
Plague item (Plague Runestone, Rotting Plaguebringer Effigy, Unhatched Plague Egg, etc)
Apparel that qualifies as a Necromantic symbol (see list of symbols under Trial of Infection rules)

If BOTH the Faith and Determination dragons faint, your dragon has failed its second trial and has become a Ghoul.
If 23 days have passed and you haven’t received a Plague familiar, Plague battle stone, Plague item or apparel that qualifies as a Necromantic symbol, throw an apparel item into Baldwin.

Black slime indicates your dragon has died. Your trials end here. Exalt the dragon.
While slime indicates your dragon has mastered the plague, but not in time to attempt the third trial. Your dragon has become a Necroservus.
Grey slime indicates your dragon is still fighting the infection. You may decide to end the dragon’s trial and they will become a Ghoul. Or you may continue to battle in the Coli until you receive a Plague drop. Once you receive a Plague drop, the dragon becomes a Wraith. While fighting in the Coli, events that would result in death, or the dragon turning into a Ghoul, still apply.

If the dragon faints at any point, OR if you get a SAP battle stone coli drop, then the dragon has succumbed to their plague and died. Your trials end here. Exalt the dragon.
Difficulty rules:

Easy: Survive at least one round in Coli a day. You may use ONE minor health potion per day on any one dragon.
Normal: Survive at least one round in Coli a day. You may not use any health potions.
Hard: Survive at least two rounds in Coli a day. The rounds must be consecutive and you may not use any health potions.

Coli round notes

The minimum rounds you must survive in Coli per day is determined by your difficulty level, however you may attempt as many CONSECUTIVE rounds as you would like. Note that leaving the Coli between any rounds ends your Coli attempts for the day.
The more consecutive Coli rounds you survive, the higher the chances of obtaining a qualifying Coli drop that lets you pass the second trial.
It is recommended that you DO NOT attempt consecutive Coli rounds until your dragons are lvl 2 or above.

Leveling rules:

The dragon taking the trials can have stat points distributed however you’d like.
Your Faith and Determination dragons MUST have stat points distributed evenly between Agility (AGL), Vitality (VIT), Defense (DFN), and Mind (MND). The easiest way to do this is to assign stat points one by one to all four attributes and then repeat until available stat points are gone. Do not try to make stats equal, as the different breeds start off with uneven stats.
Remember that your dragon must always battle in the Coli venue that matches their level.

Hatchlings use modified rules during the Trial of Survival. See the Hatchling-specific rules post.
Eye rules reminder:

Regardless of your difficulty level, if your dragon has Unusual eyes you may use ONE health potion a day on any one dragon.
If/when your Faith and/or Determination dragon are lvl 5 and above: they can learn MEDITATE and BOLSTER or WARD (only one each) and can cast on your dragon in addition to defending.
Faith and Determination dragons cannot cast BOLSTER or WARD on each other
If the BERSERKER battle item drops then your dragon is eligible to take Glowing Eyes. Your dragon may proceed to the next trial.
If all three of your dragons have a status effect at the same time then your dragon is eligible to take Innocent eyes.
If a VIAL OF HYPNOTIC SIGHT drops then your dragon is eligible to take Swirl Eyes.
If a SCRATCH or SHRED battle stone drops then your dragon is eligible to take Bright Eyes.
If any FAMILIAR drops your dragon is eligible to take Goat Eyes.
If any VISTA or SCENE drops then your dragon is eligible to take Pastel Eyes

Trial of Contagion ----- For the third trial, your dragon must survive a series of rounds in the Coli to demonstrate their mastery.

Difficulty rules:

Easy mode - Survive 3 rounds
Normal mode - Survive 4 rounds
Hard mode - Survive 5 rounds

The venue that you fight in will be chosen by RNG. Throw an apparel item into Baldwin:

Black slime - The venue must be within three levels of your dragon’s current level.
While slime - The venue must be within two levels of your dragon’s current level.
Grey slime - The venue must be at your dragon’s current level.

If your dragon faints at any point, or if BOTH of the Faith and Determination dragons faint, your dragon has failed its third trial and has become a Necroservus.
If your dragon survives all rounds in the Coli, they have passed all three trials and have become a Necromancer. Well done!
Eye rules reminder:

Rare eyed dragons are allowed to use one Major Health Potion on any dragon during the trial.
The eye drop rules from the second trial also apply to the third trial.
If your dragon qualifies for multiple special eye types, you may choose which eye type they ultimately take. You may also choose not to take any special eye types and keep the eyes that the dragon started the trials with.

Optional fun rule: If your dragon passes all three trials and becomes a Necromancer, consider re-creating your Faith or Determination dragon, or both, into its Necroservus.
Special Rules
  1. Necrolocke can be played on three difficulty levels: Easy, Normal, and Hard.
    • Within the lore, the difficulty level is determined by how close your dragon sits to the edge of the Wrymwound to meditate and conduct their trials. The closer the dragon sits to the Wrymwound, the harder the difficulty level.
    • This choice is left up to you unless your dragon has Primal eyes, in which case they MUST play on Hard mode.
  2. If an event happens that would insta-kill your dragon, you have an opportunity to pray to Plaguebringer to avert your fate. Throw an apparel item into Baldwin.
    • Black slime indicates Plaguebringer has rewarded your faith and answered your prayer and you may proceed with your trials as normal. Your dragon is now eligible to take Dark Sclera regardless of the outcome of your trials.
    • While slime indicates Plagubringer has averted your immediate fate but has found you unworthy. Another agent has acted to save you. Your dragon has survived but has become a Wraith. Your trials end here.
    • Grey slime indicates your dragon has perished despite its prayers. Your trials end here. Exalt the dragon.
  3. At any point you may decide to godmod your dragon into passing a trial, even if an event has happened that would otherwise kill your dragon and/or cause them to fail.
    • You can grant an instant success to your dragon only one time, however the dragon will now be immune to events that would otherwise insta-kill your dragon.
    • Should your dragon otherwise pass the remaining trials they will become a LICH.
    • If they do not pass the remaining trials within 23 days they are consumed by the Shade. Exalt the dragon.
  5. (optional) For those writing lore for each day, consider using the Pinkerton drop (during the first trial) or one of Tomo's daily trivia questions as a writing prompt.

Picking Your Dragon
  1. Throw a food, material, or trinket item into Baldwin’s Cauldron. The color of material you get will determine the eye type of your dragon. Certain eye types will give you advantages depending on the trial.
    • Green - Uncommon
    • Yellow - Unusual
    • Orange - Rare
    • Red - Faceted
    • Purple - Multigaze
    • Blue - Primal
  2. If you don’t like your rng eye type you can default to Common eyes, but you can’t choose any other eye type. Common eyes do not confer any advantages or disadvantages during the trials.
  3. Obtain a level 1 dragon from the AH with the correct eye type. All breeds and elements are allowed. This dragon should NOT be a Necromancer
  4. The dragon can be an adult or a hatchling, but hatchlings may receive penalties during the second trial.
wMPLFJg.png

Eye Type
  1. Uncommon eyes: - Advantage during the Trial of Infection (first trial)
    • Your sign from Mother can come from Pinkerton OR Swipp.
    • The same difficulty rules for Pinkerton also apply for Swipp.
    • You can check Swipp for signs from Mother multiple times a day.
    • If you are playing on Hard mode and you see a bone-related trade, you can throw an equivalent item into Baldwin instead of the trade item.
  2. Unusual eyes - Advantage during the Trial of Survival (second trial):
    • Regardless of your difficulty level, you may use one (1) health potion a day on any one dragon.
    • If/when your Faith and/or Determination dragon are Lvl 5 and above, instead of a daily health potion you can choose instead to teach them MEDITATE and BOLSTER or WARD, and can cast on your dragon in addition to defending.
    • Note that Faith and Determination dragons cannot cast BOLSTER or WARD on each other.
    • These advantages do NOT apply during the third trial (i.e. you may not cast BOLSTER or WARD during the third trial).
  3. Rare Eyes - Advantage during the Trial of Contagion (third trial):
    • Your dragon is allowed to use one (1) Major Health potion on any dragon during the final trial.
  4. Faceted Eyes - Major advantage during the Trial of Infection (first trial):
    • If an event happens that would insta-kill your dragon, or if you wish to try and pass your first trial at any time, you can try to look for another way forward.
    • Go to Higher or Lower in the Fairgrounds and play a single round.
    • If you guess correctly, you have survived and have also passed the first trial.
    • If you guess incorrectly you have failed to see another way forward. If an event has happened to insta-kill your dragon then you have died. Your trials end here. Exalt the dragon. If you tried to pass your first trial, then you have not succeeded and must continue taking the first trial as normal.
    • You may only attempt to see another way forward a single time.
  5. Multigaze - Major advantage during the Trial of Survival (second trial):
    • If an event happens that would insta-kill your dragon, or if you wish to try and pass your second trial at any time, you can try to force your way to victory.
    • Go to Higher or Lower in the Fairgrounds and play a single round.
    • If you guess correctly, you have survived and have also passed the second trial.
    • If you guess incorrectly you have failed to force your way through. If an event has happened to insta-kill your dragon then you have died. Your trials end here. Exalt the dragon. If you tried to pass your second trial, then you have not succeeded and must continue taking the second trial as normal.
    • You may only attempt to force your way forward a single time.
  6. Primal eyes - Major advantage during all trials:
    • If an event happens that would insta-kill your dragon during any trial, or if you wish to try and pass any trial at any time, you can try to display your mastery in an instant.
    • Go to Higher or Lower in the Fairgrounds and play a single round.
    • If you guess correctly, you have survived and have also passed your current trial
    • If you guess incorrectly you have failed to display your mastery. If an event has happened to insta-kill your dragon then you have died. Your trials end here. Exalt the dragon. If you tried to pass your trial, then you have failed and your dragon has become a Ghoul.
    • You may attempt to display your mastery one time per trial (or a total of three attempts).

Eye Drops
  1. During the Trial of Infection (first trial):
    • If you receive the BERSERKER battle item from Pinkerton then your dragon is eligible to take Glowing Eyes, regardless of the outcome of the other trials. Your dragon may proceed to the next trial immediately.
  2. During the Trial of Survival (second trial):
    • If you receive the BERSERKER battle item drop in the Coli then your dragon is eligible to take Glowing Eyes regardless of the outcome of the other trials. Your dragon may proceed to the next trial.
    • If all three of your dragons have a status effect at the same time then your dragon is eligible to take Innocent eyes regardless of the outcome of the trials.
    • If a VIAL OF HYPNOTIC SIGHT drops in the Coli then your dragon is eligible to take Swirl Eyes regardless of the outcome of the trials.
    • If a SCRATCH or SHRED battle stone drops in the Coli your dragon is eligible to take Bright Eyes regardless of the outcome of the trials
    • If any FAMILIAR drops in the Coli your dragon is eligible to take Goat Eyes regardless of the outcome of the trials.
    • If a VISTA or SCENE drops in the Coli your dragon is eligible to take Pastel Eyes regardless of the outcome of the trials.
  3. Trial of Contagion (third trial):
    • The special rules from the second trial also apply to the third trial.
  4. If your dragon qualifies for multiple special eye types, you may choose which eye type they ultimately take. You may also choose not to take any special eye type and keep the eyes that the dragon started the trials with.
  5. Optional fun rule: If your dragon gets a FAMILIAR drop and chooses to take Goat Eyes, consider making the dropped Familiar the permanent familiar of the dragon.
wMPLFJg.png

Trial of Infection

Your dragon must wait for Mother to touch their flesh with plague as a sign they are worthy to attempt the second trial. This trial uses Pinkerton's Plundered Pile as a mechanic
  1. Every day, draw an item from Pinkerton. If the item qualifies as a sign from Mother, then your flesh has been touched with plague and you have passed your first trial. The items that qualify as signs from Mother depend on the difficulty level you’ve chosen.
    • Easy: Necromantic symbols, Coliseum Plague Familiars, Materials and Food dropped by Coliseum Plague Familiars, and Plague items
    • Normal: Necromantic symbols and Coliseum Plague Familiars
    • Hard: Same items as Normal.
  2. If you receive an AMBUSH battle item your dragon has not been able to withstand the deprivations and hardships of meditating near the Wrymwound and has died. Your trials end here. Exalt the dragon.
  3. If your dragon still hasn’t received a sign from Mother by the 23rd day, they have failed the first trial. Your trials end here, but your dragon does not have to be exalted and can seek a new life path.
  4. If you're running multiple Necrolockes at the same time (i.e. sending multiple dragons through the trials at once), you can use Crim's Collection Cart in lieu of Pinkerton for your sign from Mother.
    • When using Crim, the first trade offer will apply to your first Necrolocke attempt, the second trade offer will apply to your second Necrolocke attempt, etc.
    • Note that Crim's pool of trades is Much Larger than Pinkerton's. The reference box of searchable signs from Mother found below will only apply to a small fraction of qualifying signs from Crim.
    • You'll have to use the Game Database and the Necromancer Lore post to determine if your trade qualifies as a sign from Mother.
    • Due to this larger pool, ANY Plague battle stone indicates your dragon has not been able to withstand the deprivations and hardships of meditating near the Wrymwound and has died. Your trials end here. Exalt the dragon.
  5. Eye rules reminder:
    • If your dragon has Uncommon eyes then they are more susceptible to Mother’s Touch. Your sign from Mother can come from Pinkerton OR Swipp. Same difficulty rules apply. If playing on Hard Mode you can throw an equivalent item into Baldwin's cauldron instead of the trade item itself.
    • If you receive the BERSERKER battle item then your dragon has broken through its limitations and is eligible to take Glowing Eyes, regardless of the outcome of the other trials. Your dragon may proceed to the next trial immediately.

Trial of Survival

The second trial is represented by surviving daily Coli battles. Before you begin you must get two more dragons to represent Faith and Determination.
  1. Your Faith and Determination dragons are symbolic protectors of your trial dragon and are meant to act as damage sponges in the Coli. It doesn't matter where these dragons come from (AH, bred fodder, etc), but they should start at lvl 1 and their breed is partially determined by RNG.
  2. Throw an Apparel item into Baldwin to determine the breed class of your Faith and Determination dragons. Note that every breed has its own base battle stats, which will affect how well it takes physical damage, magical damage, and how likely it is to dodge attacks.
    • Grey Slime: Choose one physical dragon (Scratch attacks) and one magical dragon (Contuse attacks)
    • White Slime: Choose two magical dragons (Contuse attacks)
    • Black Slime: Choose two physical dragons (Scratch attacks)
  3. The dragon taking the trials should be placed in the middle of the battle formation, with the dragons representing Faith and Determination flanking them on either side.
  4. Choose the Coli venue that corresponds to your dragon’s level.
  5. Your Faith and Determination dragons CANNOT ATTACK. They can only DEFEND. ALL attacks must come from the dragon taking the trials.
  6. While battling in the Coli you CANNOT end a battle by refreshing the page or clicking out of the window.
  7. If your dragon FLEEs they automatically fail their second trial and become a Ghoul.
  8. If at any point you receive the below Coli drops, your dragon has mastered its plague and has passed the second trial:
    • Any Plague familiar
    • Plague battle item (Vile bolt, Pestilent Slash, Diseased Might or Acuity Fragment, Contaminate)
    • Plague item (Plague Runestone, Rotting Plaguebringer Effigy, Unhatched Plague Egg, etc)
    • Apparel that qualifies as a Necromantic symbol (see list of symbols under Trial of Infection rules)
  9. If BOTH the Faith and Determination dragons faint, your dragon has failed its second trial and has become a Ghoul.
  10. If 23 days have passed and you haven’t received a Plague familiar, Plague battle stone, Plague item or apparel that qualifies as a Necromantic symbol, throw an apparel item into Baldwin.
    • Black slime indicates your dragon has died. Your trials end here. Exalt the dragon.
    • While slime indicates your dragon has mastered the plague, but not in time to attempt the third trial. Your dragon has become a Necroservus.
    • Grey slime indicates your dragon is still fighting the infection.
  11. If the dragon faints at any point, OR if you get a SAP battle stone coli drop, then the dragon has succumbed to their plague and died. Your trials end here. Exalt the dragon.
  12. Difficulty rules:
    • Easy: Survive at least one round in Coli a day. You may use ONE minor health potion per day on any one dragon.
    • Normal: Survive at least one round in Coli a day. You may not use any health potions.
    • Hard: Survive at least two rounds in Coli a day. The rounds must be consecutive and you may not use any health potions.
  13. Coli round notes
    • The minimum rounds you must survive in Coli per day is determined by your difficulty level, however you may attempt as many CONSECUTIVE rounds as you would like. Note that leaving the Coli between any rounds ends your Coli attempts for the day.
    • The more consecutive Coli rounds you survive, the higher the chances of obtaining a qualifying Coli drop that lets you pass the second trial.
    • It is recommended that you DO NOT attempt consecutive Coli rounds until your dragons are lvl 2 or above.
  14. Leveling rules:
    • The dragon taking the trials can have stat points distributed however you’d like.
    • Your Faith and Determination dragons MUST have stat points distributed evenly between Agility (AGL), Vitality (VIT), Defense (DFN), and Mind (MND). The easiest way to do this is to assign stat points one by one to all four attributes and then repeat until available stat points are gone. Do not try to make stats equal, as the different breeds start off with uneven stats.
    • Remember that your dragon must always battle in the Coli venue that matches their level.
  15. Hatchlings use modified rules during the Trial of Survival. See the Hatchling-specific rules post.
  16. Eye rules reminder:
    • Regardless of your difficulty level, if your dragon has Unusual eyes you may use ONE health potion a day on any one dragon.
    • If/when your Faith and/or Determination dragon are lvl 5 and above: they can learn MEDITATE and BOLSTER or WARD (only one each) and can cast on your dragon in addition to defending.
    • Faith and Determination dragons cannot cast BOLSTER or WARD on each other
    • If the BERSERKER battle item drops then your dragon is eligible to take Glowing Eyes. Your dragon may proceed to the next trial.
    • If all three of your dragons have a status effect at the same time then your dragon is eligible to take Innocent eyes.
    • If a VIAL OF HYPNOTIC SIGHT drops then your dragon is eligible to take Swirl Eyes.
    • If a SCRATCH or SHRED battle stone drops then your dragon is eligible to take Bright Eyes.
    • If any FAMILIAR drops your dragon is eligible to take Goat Eyes.
    • If any VISTA or SCENE drops then your dragon is eligible to take Pastel Eyes

Trial of Contagion

For the third trial, your dragon must survive a series of rounds in the Coli to demonstrate their mastery.
  1. Difficulty rules:
    • Easy mode - Survive 3 rounds
    • Normal mode - Survive 4 rounds
    • Hard mode - Survive 5 rounds
  2. The venue that you fight in will be chosen by RNG. Throw an apparel item into Baldwin:
    • Black slime - The venue must be within three levels of your dragon’s current level.
    • While slime - The venue must be within two levels of your dragon’s current level.
    • Grey slime - The venue must be at your dragon’s current level.
  3. If your dragon faints at any point, or if BOTH of the Faith and Determination dragons faint, your dragon has failed its third trial and has become a Necroservus.
  4. If your dragon survives all rounds in the Coli, they have passed all three trials and have become a Necromancer. Well done!
  5. Eye rules reminder:
    • Rare eyed dragons are allowed to use one Major Health Potion on any dragon during the trial.
    • The eye drop rules from the second trial also apply to the third trial.
    • If your dragon qualifies for multiple special eye types, you may choose which eye type they ultimately take. You may also choose not to take any special eye types and keep the eyes that the dragon started the trials with.
  6. Optional fun rule: If your dragon passes all three trials and becomes a Necromancer, consider re-creating your Faith or Determination dragon, or both, into its Necroservus.

A Rare-eyed dragon born in the Charged Barrens but quickly relocated to the Wandering Contagion, Ithrael grew up on the distant tales of the power and prestige of Necromancers, but had never actually seen one until a missionary came to visit his small clan a few months ago. He had the opportunity to talk with then extensively and decided to attempt the Trials they described for himself. What better way to prove that he truly belonged here?

As a dragon with Rare eyes, Ithrael has an advantage in the Trial of Contagion. One Major Health Potion may be used on any dragon during it.
Ithrael picked his way carefully over the pockmarked earth below the Rim, on the inside, where only a select few ever ventured for fear of their lives. A fear he and those nearby would all attempt to overcome in the coming days. Some had already halted, turned by the noxious fumes, the terrible stench, or something else, settling into meditative poses and ready to begin their vigil with the Cauldron itself looming at the horizon.
He continued.
A shadow passed overhead, some kind of vulture, perhaps, hidden by the putrid haze of disease and magic suffusing the air. He wonders if it rains acid here, if it rains at all. Under his claws, the earth crunches dryly and the thin, twisted brush seems to leer in the half-light of early sunset as the sun passes over the far side of the Rim, casting the world into intimidating vagueness. The Cauldron, still visible through the murk and close enough now that he could swear he can see it bubbling, emits a neon smoke that drifts aimlessly through the valley, making his eyes and nose burn.
This is close enough.
Ithrael finds a spot on an outcrop of rock, high enough that he should be out of reach of anything mutated and strange enough to think to snack on him during his meditation, and settles in, breathing deeply despite the burn, and prays that the Mother sees fit to infect him with something he can survive and control.

Ithrael settles a Middling distance from the Cauldron; his attempts will be on Normal difficulty.

After the rain of the previous day, the air is clear of the usual putrescent smog. He can't help but wonder if that's a good thing or a bad thing for his chances. Not constantly breathing the fumes might reduce his chances of contracting something, but the clear air also meant that the new fumes from the Cauldron would spread unimpeded, carrying the Mother's newest concoctions. Ithrael stretches his wings briefly before settling them once more against his spine, desperately trying to focus his mind once more. He knows his chances are still good, that it typically takes a full week for the first Trial to pass, to receive the Mother's blessing, and that some do not for two - or three in very rare cases. The doubt isn't good for him, so he scratches his claws against the red earth and closes his eyes, breathing deeply. The Necromancer of his home clan had wished him luck before he came, had refused to teach him anything or give him any tips beforehand. She had only given him a laughing parting glance and told him that it would be up to the Mother. He's been too indecisive. He breathes again, reaffirming himself. He came here to prove to himself and others that he is just as worthy as those born here. It's a risk. Many die, many fail. He will not be one of them. It's said the Mother rewards dedication and devotion. It's time to start praying. He will be a Necromancer. [rule] The Mother does not see fit to bless Ithrael's Trials today. When the sun rises on the dawn of the third day, it is a bright orange, gleaming down into the Rim like a baleful gaze.

The Mother does not see fit to bless Ithrael's Trials today. Twenty days remain.

Ah, your lore posts are so good! I enjoyed the way you used the Tomo pull to shine a light on an important aspect of Ithrael's personality, namely his relationship with his birth land. I was worried that the first trial might prove way too boring, but from your writing I can see how, at least from a lore perspective, it might let you focus on different aspects of dragon's personality to develop them bit by bit with a more introspective lens.

But the half-rotten petals are determined, and though he gets them, scattering them instead around his feet, they leave a sap-like residue over the tip of his snout. He frowns and groans internally as the noon heat begins crusting the stuff into his fur. That's going to be there for the rest of the Trials unless it rains again. He can almost see it, too, closing one eye and turning the other as close as he can. Against his dark fur, it's difficult to tell, but he thinks it might be black. A glance down at the petals between his feet confirms it. The otherwise off-white petals are stained dark with black ooze, the result of rot and corruption. But not a normal rot, now that he gets a better look at it. Usually a rotting leaf would turn soft and discolor before getting to the point of dissolving, and even then only in a dark, wet environment. These petals show no discoloration save the ill-colored goo, they're still crisp and hold their shape when he presses them. This isn't a normal rot, it's something else, something darker. Something whispers in the back of his mind that he knows exactly what it is, what might cause this kind of corruption. He ignores it. It's impossible, here, so close to the center of the Mother's power and influence. It isn't possible, and that it's now coating his fur means nothing. It isn't an omen of things to come.
