TOPIC | A Necromancer's Magic 8 Ball

Quote:

The small fae hops up onto her table and Kishna leans back slightly in distaste. But as Polluxi explains her situation, the mirror's double eyes fill with something like warmth.

"Plague welcomes you; you who have eschewed the wet green creeping lands for the true land of Mother. I will be pleased to put your question to Mother. Kobari!"

This last is called over one shoulder. Another mirror emerges from the back room and rests a hand on the firebug, staying a respectful distance from Kishna as she bends to her work.

She touches the familiar with a claw tip and rot crawls outward from the point of contact.

“Mother, bringer of eternal struggle and eternal triumph, show me your will.”

The tendrils of plague fracture and fracture again in an increasingly complex pattern across the familiar’s side and Kishna follows each line as if it were script inked straight from Mother’s hand.

Your question is: Does soon-to-be Mother wish for us to become similar to an ant colony?
The answer to your question is: You, who will be Queen, your bloodline calls out from within and bids you to take your place. Let your instincts guide you, they will serve you well. A colony, as you consider, demands strength and strong leadership. They will live or die on your word. Do not shrink from this duty - that way lies self-doubt and ruin. Come home, build, flourish, and you will have Mother's love.

Kishna looks her fellow mirror over with obvious pity, and a Plague dragon knows this is worse than the most hate-filled disgust.

"You have been long absent from Mother's embrace. Your faith and will have weakened, and suffered, while dwelling admist the water-born who refuse to follow Mother's way. This confusion and torment you feel are an artifact, they do not reflect the Plague-born spirit that I sense still beats within your heart. Come home wayward son. Come home and find your way once more. This is my counsel, not Mother's, yet I hope that you heed it. If you are not at peace in head and heart, you can not help your clan."

After a moment she shifts her attention to the glazed sentry.

"As for your question, I can do nothing with such a sacrifice. It is a creature of paint and clay, animated by a flesh-less spirit. To read Mother's Will I must have flesh for Her plague to feed upon."

Kishna turns back to the mirror. "You must find me another sacrifice, or you may volunteer yourself." She points at his arm. "If you give your flesh to Mother I can give you an answer. The choice is yours."

Deathstrike glances at the door, heart pounding, but then the trapped feeling edges away. He straightens and looks back at the Necromancer with clear eyes. "My own flesh? I feel as though my heart is gone; what good is flesh to me?"

He slaps his foreleg down on the table and meets her gaze. "I am born of Plague, and if I perish in your sorcery, to the Mother I will go. But I will not. I will survive."

At the moment of his offered sacrifice, he sees his way clear. While not being of the Necromancer race, he will fight the Plague within his own body until he has conquered it. Then he will return to the clan, and begin the inoculation process. A little here, a little there. Very small amounts, gradually increasing, until the whole clan carries the Plaguebringer's blessing within them, and never need fear the Scarred Wasteland again, for the immunity within them.

"Infect me with the Mother's blessing. Let me remember what it truly is to be Plague. Remind me of the truths. War is not her way; survival is." In Clan Aquaurora's first throes of the plague, they will unite to survive. In this way, the war will cease, and the clan will become strong.

Kishna does not respond, but shutters her heat pits in respect and approval of Deathstrike's decision.

She slides a claw along the bone markings of his foreleg, feeling out the pulse of blood beneath the flesh. Her finger halts above his wrist and carefully breaches the skin, letting the plague in. Rot crawls outward from the point of contact.

“Mother, bringer of eternal struggle and eternal triumph, show me your will.”

The tendrils of plague fracture and fracture again in an increasingly complex pattern across Deathstrike's forearm and Kishna follows each line as if it were script inked straight from Mother’s hand.

Your question is: Would introducing a plague into a friendly water lair be a betrayal of their trust?
The answer to your question is: Deathstrike, wayward son, you have let Mother into your heart and Her wisdom flows through you. She lives in your blood and flesh, and my words are merely noise, for you hear Her clearly. Move forward knowing She guides you. Do not falter. Do not lose faith. Your strength is Her's, and She returns it to you a thousand fold. Wayward son, She has brought you home.

Quote:
Kishna recalls the plague, drawing it back into herself. But before Deathstrike is cleansed completely she withdraws, leaving some of the disease to blacken Mother's sinuous mark into the skin of his inner wrist and then sink in deep.

"She is with you, always. Accept Her blessing, and go forth with clear purpose."

((Cool! This is totally going into my lore challenge now...in several weeks. I've only written the first generation to completion so far, and Deathstrike's confusion is occurring as the 4th generation is licking their wounds and gathering mates.))

A moment passes, and Cyaega steps back in shock and disbelief. The skittering, jagged plague, the frantic denial, the harsh answer on the cusp of a harsher admonishment... It was so much sharper than anything he'd expected.

He recovers, barely, and says, " Eternity is a long time, and I've been waiting since before even your beginning..."

Cyaega gathers his bearings and stands to leave.
"Thank you, Kishna. They aren't ready to remember. But I'll be patient. I'll wait forever if I have to..."

And as swiftly as he had arrived, the Nocturne is gone, leaving naught but tendrils of smoke and empty space.

Igarashi looked at the lit candles with mild interest, and noted the heavy smell of sickly-sweet smoke that filled the room. Familiar, but different enough to make the distinction between the smell of viral smoke she grew up with, and the one she was currently breathing in. Soba’s long yellow body shifted and slithered around her neck, stretching to look around the new enviroment. His tongue flicked at the air a few times, though no more then that as he withdrew and settled against her down. The smoke wasn’t to his liking then. Thankfully, this shouldn’t take long. She moved calmly to the chair situated by the table, and sat down to face the Mirror before her. Even still, the double set of eyes, and lack of feathers felt strange to look at. It had only been a few months ago that she had seen a non-Crow dragon for the first time after all. ”My name is Igarashi. For a few months now, I’ve traveled far away from home, looking to find a purpose in life. Or, well, anything really. My siblings are all finding their paths, some have even moved away to other clans. I don’t want to leave my home for good, but back there, I don’t know what I’m supposed to make of myself. So, I left. And I still haven’t found what I’m looking for.” Soba curled around her neck, coiling tighter and sinking into the down. ”I’m not unhappy with the life I have, I just don’t feel... satisfied. It all feels dull, going through the same routine, day after day.” She brings her arm up to the table, and extends it out to Kishna. ”I heard a familiar sacrifice is not always needed, as long as an alternative is provided. Quote:
Kishna watches the Effluvial Crow as she speaks, listening intently as she provides the context for her question. When she finishes Kishna reaches for the snake, assuming it is intended as the sacrifice, but stops, and blinks, when the Crow offers her own arm instead.

"Curious. It is hard to know what to make of you. Most in your position would ask the Mother what their purpose was. The fact that you ask instead whether to keep pursuing one is quite odd to me. But that is of no account. You have asked and Mother will answer, and blessings be upon those who accept Her touch directly. Now brace yourself, and receive your blessing."

She touches the Crow with a claw tip and rot crawls outward from the point of contact.

“Mother, bringer of eternal struggle and eternal triumph, show me your will.”

The tendrils of plague fracture and fracture again in an increasingly complex pattern across the Crow's forearm and Kishna follows each line as if it were script inked straight from Mother’s hand.

Your question is: I want to know if I should keep traveling and aimlessly looking, or settle for what I have and return home

The answer to your question is: If you do not know what you seek, can you be surprised that you have not found it? Sit. Meditate. Speak to the Mother in your heart and mind and flesh. Find your purpose within yourself and then pursue it without. As you journey your purpose may evolve, for evolution is life, but walking blind will take you nowhere.
