I definitely try, but unless it’s super super important to the character, I’ll be willing to settle for a different color/element than my plan. Especially if I get really impatient to start working on the project lol

Kinda depends honestly! Like I have a dnd fandragon who absolutely HAD to have shadow primal eyes because that is exactly what they look like for her (this was before vials were a thing so I had to specifically contact and waitlist for breeders), another homestuck fandragon who I had a choice between wind and nature cause they have some overlap specialty eyes that had the colors I wanted, more dnd fandragons who the element mattered but not the color, and then three fandragon homestuck ocs who's eye color and element literally didn't matter at all.
Bottom line is if it's fun to not care, do that? I mean it's not like I'm ever planning on selling these guys and I'm not losing Internet Coolness Points if my Snarlbear or Shakespeare fandragons have the wrong eyes (I don't even remember what color Snarlbear's canon eyes were). I had fun making all of these guys and I like lookin at em

it depends mostly
if the eyes are an important characteristic of the character then yeah I'd prefer they matched but if not I'm alright so long as the colors match the character
Absolutely yes because I am that picky. Even for dragons who have their eyes covered it's still important to me that their eyes are accurate to the character. When it comes to characters who don't have a known eye color for whatever reason I just pick the element based on their lore/Vibes
Very rarely, but I got a bright green eyed dragon for my Billie Joe Armstrong fandragon.

I didn't care when I got my first handful but now I definitely do. I wish I'd cared from the start though lol. Now I have three different 8-y/o dragons that used to be fandragons and don't have the heart to get rid of now that I've redone the characters lol.
