So, I’ve been in this site for almost 5 years now, and I feel like I’ve on y just started really playing.

Like, I’ve seen people completing projects, doing raffles and giveaways, spending ungodly amounts of money on genes and skins and eggs and art and familiars, and like, I feel like I just haven’t been playing this game right. I was always short on treasure, I never figured out how to get enough through the fairgrounds, and don’t even get me started on the coliseum. I still don’t have any dragons leveled to 25! (Almost, 3 at 22!) This site has so much to do, so many things to participate in and so many ways to have fun, and I feel like I’ve just been coasting.

This year i finally sat down and taught myself how to play Glimmer and Gloom, so now i can max out the fairgrounds much faster (and more reliably!) than sitting around for hours grinding majong.

I’ve just finished compiling a wishlist, and sorting through my den to get rid of dragons that I’ve been holding on to forever because I just couldn’t bring myself to get rid of them.

But like, I’m stating to write some comprehensive lore for my dragons, I’m about to start making art of them, and doing challenges and collecting the items I want, I’m finally able to purchase genes for projects that were always so out of reach.

There’s nothing wrong with being a casual player, don’t get me wrong! But I love this game, and I feel kinda bad that I haven’t been using its full potential all this time.

But hey, it’s never too late! And maybe I can start doing nice things for other new players, like all of the people who were so kind to me when I joined.

Sorry, I know this is kinda rambly, I’m just trying to get my thoughts about this out of my head, and hopefully someone out there understands what I mean!

are you me? I started playing almost 7 years ago, and while I did some things throughout most of those years, it still felt like I didn't play the game "right." I relate to so many of your points. It really felt like I didn't know what I was doing for the most part. at the beginning of last year, I started to do things a bit differently. I had just changed flights for the first time a couple of months before, and then got the desire to start using skins. up to that point, I have never touched a skin. I can't remember when I learned g&g, maybe it was years ago, or maybe last year, but I started grinding a bit more (ngl I haven't done it in a while now heh) for some reason, I had barely touched the forums, even though I love forums! I've also been trying to get a biiit into coli (still very new to it, but hopefully I'll get better this year). I hope I will continue to explore more sides of FR this year, this past year has felt so refreshing and fun! I don't even remember that they exist until I think about selling them, but then I still can't do it :<

Too tired rn to say anything comprehensive other than this makes me so happy to read. finding new things to enjoy in something you already like is such a good feeling

Started playing way back and only recently picking up again after a hiatus and going through the same motions! I was always a holiday player more than anything, and it’s been nice to finally learn how to play for real. Still trying to get better at reliably getting treasure, but planning some breeding projects already! It’s been so nice :)

Personally I don't think there is a true "right" way of playing the game. There is just...improvements. Ones that make the game fun and engaging for one individual to another.

I have nearly played this game for a decade. 3 more months and it will be 10 years. I feel old, haha. But for the longest of time I just never grasped on how to properly play g&g untill...about maybe a year or two ago? God...when I actually took time to learn and read forums and even watch few videos to actually grasp it was enlightening. Before that I played Mahjong, compared to G&G it is more fun but time spent there trying to get the most out of a daily fairground money was exhausting. Especially as a daily activity. It would take me 1h and 20mins exactly to do a full 75k t from it. Now, with g&g, I do it in 10mins or less.

I also recently (like 2 years ago) adapted from doing 1 exaltee leveling to 2 with the Mire setup. That also took me a long time to grasp and learn that, hey, buffing actually do mean something compared to brute forcing it in the Kelp Beds like the maniac that I was.

It is so nice to see and read other people figuring out stuff too. And get happier with their improvements. Progressing through their games. So so nice.

I'm in a very similar boat! 4 going on 5 years in, and after just returning a few days ago from a long hiatus I'm learning how to play more intensively and resetting my lair :3

next year (2026) will be ten years on this site for me and i feel like i STILL don't play the game "correctly" lol. i've never bothered once with training fodder or engaging in dominance in my entire playtime, nor do i breed and sell dragons, or write lore. i'm fine with my current playstyle which is mostly coli, fairgrounds, and geneing gen1s but i feel like i can't relate to a majority of players because of it. why slow down my coli grinding with fodder when i can just use a full level 25 team?

also, lair space. i love having a relatively small lair and i will never complete hibernal den tasks because i don't have any use for it. LOL

I really like how flexible FR is in terms of gameplay. There's still stuff that needs to be updated (like gathering) but overall, you can pretty much do any playstyle that you prefer. I came back from a long hiatus last year and i definitely felt like I'm much more engaged when it comes to playing FR. I'm able to utilize alot of FR mechanics that i wasn't interested in before, like coli grinding. [emoji=new friend size=1]

Felt! I joined 6 years ago but I've only just begun utilizing different aspects of the site within the past year or two. Before then I was just being on and off the site and collecting pretty dragons. Hardly touched coli, rarely did events, wallet was like consistently around 50kt or less and 25g was crazy rich to me.
Sadly I only remember fragments of my time on this site before 2021 (besides the very beginnings, like my progens and dragons I got off of freebie threads).

Only recently have I gotten a taste for the joys of coli now that I actually understand what I'm doing!
I've yet to learn g&g. Every time I've tried it still confuses me to no end even with guides :sob:
