when I first started, I browsed the cheapest treasure dragons all the time. now, I only go to the AH when I'm looking for something specific--sometimes only a few givens, sometimes a lot. I will often search for only g2s--all those triple basic dragons are super annoying!

I don't buy dragons except on rare occasions like when I have a project in mind, and I search for specific color combinations. It's just that I have an old lair and don't feel the need for more... But sometimes there's a really good dragon among my fodder.
Also I guess I should raise my prices for people like OP. All my hatchlings get priced at 25g, tops.

Cool question, I have had fun looking at everyone elses habits too! If i am seeking project items i filter that way. Like the last few items I need for hib-den slots (which i am slowly working on expanding bc i need the space)
When filtering for dragons I am always looking for unnamed 1st Gens with pretty colors by treasure. Then hoard them for future slow progressing because it's what keeps me coming back to the game time & time again.

It depends on the objective.
A) a specific breed: recently released ones, or ones I'd like to have more of. Depending on how many there are, I might filter by genes I'm looking for, instead of considering all available.
B) a breeding project: I have filters for the target dragons and widen the scope of the search to get more (or any) results. I don't run this search on the AH very often, preferring to check for new dragons using a global search.
C) cheap oldies: the search I run the most frequently at the moment; I start at 10g/kt and check all IDs up to 9, then set the minimum price lower, down to 5g/kt. I have begun to include ancient breeds as well.
D) fodder floor rescues: any modern breed (excluding Obelisks). I prefer unusual-looking dragons and don't care much for triple genes.
E) specific genes: new genes, or ones I want to have more of for regular breeding.
F) specific combinations that I discovered but for which I don't have a specific breeding project in mind, for example a female Python Skydancer.
G) more breeding options: using my nifty list of genes that are underrepresented in my clan, limited to modern dragons. I might save another search for genes that I like in general.
I usually work my way up from the lowest prices, and draw the line at 20-25g/kt, preferring to pay in treasure.

eh, but then you miss out on people looking for cheap dragons. when I was a new player I would just browse the AH with no filter (or maybe a breed filter) and I would pretty much stop looking past 30g because that was already a quite expensive dragon to me.

I'm more selective these days - I don't have the funds, patience, or care for working on lots of dragons and bigger projects, outside of a few special cases (Platinum primary/blue-range secondary G1s, my beloved and my accursed obsession)
So, these days, I set parameters for whatever I'm looking for and browse. Sometimes that's just an ID range, other times it's hyper specific, down to the genes. Just this morning I searched for RTB Dusthides between the ranges of Sapphire-Turquoise to try and find a fun breeding pair
