oh these dudes are WEIRD and I LOVE IT. I love that Light's ancient is something unexpected like this; if it was a generic "elegant pretty delicate thin build" design I don't think it'd be NEARLY as charming. I get why other people may not be a fan of the bug theme, but I'm one hundred percent a fan of these little goober grubs.

These are the first ancients to knock my socks off in a really long time. The poses are cool and dynamic and I love the gravity and personality and strangeness that the designs have. It feels as though this is what the ancients have been building to all this time - a new, weird beast that ships with a lot of cool linebreaking genes (especially terts!!!). This to me, this is THE fulfillment of the ancient goal.
The ancient genepool is built up enough that an ancient CAN do that now, and I wanna give a shoutout to the artists for that achievement. I think the choices for genes are all really nice - I'm really happy to see less distributed genes like Batty, Space, Gliders, Jellyfish, etc. getting a good shake. Everluxes wear them all so well. This is the first time my enthusiasm has not been dampened (oh staff, don't take it personally!) by a smaller slate of unique genes, both because of the broad selection of good looks already possible and because the Everlux-unique genes all look so darn GOOD!! Eclipse is a total banger and I can't wait to put it on more dragons, and I'm in love with Harp. It's weird as hell and full of personality.
I've seen some folks critiquing the design of the dragons themselves on the grounds of looks weird, too buggy, not dragon enough, not Light Flight enough. I don't really play with much of a mind to flight looks and lore (plus I'm from Nature originally, the hunter/carnivore flight rep mighta trained me out of that lol), but look. There's only so much variation you can get on the platonic ideal of the western dragon (think Guardian) before you start retracing your steps. I'm super super delighted to see a breed that pushes the "dragon" envelope and looks like it came off a pulp scifi book cover. (I was surprised to find out they're supposed to be small! They feel massive and dignified to me - must be the small eyes.) I must have spent an hour and a half in the scrying workshop and I can't wait to gene my new little critters.
