Truffle stared at him with a raised brow, but didn't object. "And the wings...? They make a pretty garnish, though our dish will look like a sprite made it." "And doesn't that fit the Mistral spirit? Wings where they don't belong!" Moss cheered, then set to work. [item=Redtail Crane] [item=Petite Glasswing Butterfly] [item=Killifish] [item=Stonewatch Scrub] The pair began by plucking, scaling, and cleaning the meat ingredients, with butterfly wings carefully set aside. The bird and fish were chopped into bite-size cubes along with extra onions, garlic, tomatoes, chilies, and herbs, then everything was tossed into a sizzling pan. A splash of white wine brought the flavors together, then it was time to cook some rice and meats. Moss allowed the mixture to roast for a minute, then poured in some broth with Truffle's help; unfortunately for her, this was mostly a one-dragon effort kind of meal, but at least she'd gotten to shine the day before. She twiddled her thumbs over the bowl of tiny butterflies and their dissected wings while the pan was brought to a boil, then flicked her tail in delight when it was finally time to place the little insect bodies into the mix. "Smells delicious, Moss!" "It only gets yummier from here, now we just drop in some scrub-" He reached over her for a few of the leaves, rubbed them between his claws to release the juices inside, then tossed them in and turned down the heat with a cover. "-And we wait for the juices to simmer down into the rice while the bugs cook. I love paella, it's so simple!" Half an hour later Moss removed the lid with a plume of steam, taking in the strange sight of bright blue rice and the unexpectedly lovely fragrance that came with it. "Ahh, this smell will be a good memory. Time to plate up!" "Not without some fresh lemon and our buggy bits!" Truffle dashed over with a large dish, slices of citrus she'd cut up while waiting, and the precious wings she'd proudly kept herself from eating. She scooped the contents of the pan into the bowl, then arranged glassy wings around the rim for a rainbowy flair. The whole thing shone like a crystal, and looked like something straight out of a fantasy book.

"No sweet ingredients, I got no ideas," Truffle shrugged. "You're back in the spotlight today, Moss!"
The Tundra dragon scratched his fuzzy chin thoughtfully. Hmm, keep the wings intact, eh? Those leaves will stain anything they touch...
He got a strange thought to combine all the ingredients, then snapped his claws. "Alright, it'll be a little unconventional, but I'm thinking of making a multi-meat paella seasoned with scrubleaves... so it'll turn out BLUE!"
Truffle stared at him with a raised brow, but didn't object. "And the wings...? They make a pretty garnish, though our dish will look like a sprite made it."

Redtail Crane Petite Glasswing Butterfly Killifish Stonewatch Scrub

The pair began by plucking, scaling, and cleaning the meat ingredients, with butterfly wings carefully set aside.

"Smells delicious, Moss!"

"-And we wait for the juices to simmer down into the rice while the bugs cook. I love paella, it's so simple!"

Half an hour later Moss removed the lid with a plume of steam, taking in the strange sight of bright blue rice and the unexpectedly lovely fragrance that came with it. "Ahh, this smell will be a good memory. Time to plate up!"

Sure, she'd have to involve her much-loathed plants again, but that was a necessary evil. She caught the attention of the loudmouth Wildclaw host, asking for some rice and cooking oil to be brought to her cooking station. While he ran about to get that, she got started. First was getting the fish and crane prepped and cooked (it would have to be separately, annoyingly enough, but enough time for the crane to cook through would have turned the small killifish to cinders). At least she was able to speed it along, since these would need to be in small chunks anyways. She cut each ingredient into small chunks, manageable even for the smaller tundra. To her mind, it was almost ground - but it would do no good to have any of the judges unable to eat her creations. She set both the fish and the crane to cook in separate pans with some oil to keep it from sticking, and started prepping the glasswings while they warmed. She removed the wings and set them aside, then chopped them into halves with a sharp knife, but otherwise left them raw. Insects were far better raw in her opinion - the crunch of the outer shell contrasted with the softer insides was a treat. After that, she set the rice to cook, still with a watchful eye on her two other pans literally on the fire. She flipped the killifish a few times, then pulled it off the heat. The crane pieces and the rice finished near-simultaneously, which was appreciated. She pulled all the ingredients off of heat, setting them aside, and moved to the final ingredient: the stonewatch scrubs. She cut the leaves from the bush she'd been given, then pressed each flat, squeezing their blue juices out into a waiting bowl. It felt silly, but it wouldn't do to have any of the aloe-like goo these plants sometimes produced ruining her wraps. Besides, she had a plan for that bright blue coloring. She took the dye and mixed it with the rice, turning it a rich sky blue. Next, she took the wings from the glass butterflies and shredded them in a food processor, creating essentially an edible glitter. Half of this went into the rice, and she retained the other half. Finally, she mixed in the various protein components, and added the rice and meats mixture to the flattened leaves, rolling them into easily-eaten wraps. She stacked these together on a platter, then dusted the stack with the remaining wing glitter - creating sparkly leaf wraps with a bright blue inside. They looked almost like candy, an effect which she was rather pleased with.

That is sure some loud food. Bright! Noisy! Wow! For a moment he contemplates a children's birthday cake extravaganza, but you just can't... grill a cake. Or frosting. He knows what does go good with a grill though. One rummage into his trusty ice filled cooler later, and he's got the grill set to "smoke", an orderly row of steaks laid out, and its back to the pestle and mortar to grind up feathers and pulp leaves. The fish get sorted and filleted according to colour, and the glasswing are set aside for now. Once he's ready, the show begins. Feather dust has been mixed into the wood shavings on the smoking tray, surf and turf bundles snugged up on the grill over top. A thick, brilliant blue bbq sauce is slapped about with a generous brush, and with a flourish, glasswing tinkle down to ignite, sending the whole thing up in a sparkling rainbow flair of billowing smoke. He deboned and chopped the crane into medium sized chunks before sauteing in a pan with some butter and leeks. While that was going he filleted the killifish and kept the leftover heads and tails attached to the spines for later. He placed the fillets in a flat pan, alongside some chopped turnips, potatoes and onions to bake in the oven for a short while. He than put a colander on top of a boiling pot of water to steam the scrubs, simultaneously creating some very blue water with every intent to stain. By the time that was done he took the fish and vegetables out of the oven and with the steamed shrubs dumped them into the pan with the crane and leek, along with a good helping of cream and some grated eggs. Making sure to stir the pan's contents every so often, he made a pie dough and covered the inside of the pie tin. Taking the full pan he dumped the mixture into the pie, with some grated cheddar added on top. He cut X's into the pie lid and carefully inserted the leftover fish spines, leaving the fish heads and tails to poke out the top. He than let the pie bake to a golden brown in the oven and gently placed it to be judged by the judges. (Warning: the fish heads may judge them back.) "They keep giving us challenges related to desserts," Anaconda says nervously. Just yesterday they were talking about how they weren't very skilled at those- especially not enough to decorate them intricately like the Meringue's speech suggested. "Well, we have to think of something," Delta says as she rubs her temples with her claws to try to help her think. "If only we had Andromeda here... She's so much better at that stuff than us." Anaconda smiles, remembering all of the times her hatchlings had rushed over to the kitchen to beg their matriarch for some chocolate chip cookies or seaberry tarts. Wait. Hatchlings! That's it! Anaconda's voice grows excited. "Hey, do you remember those cookies we made with my hatchlings a few months ago?" "Those clawprint ones? Where you fill them with jam? Those are some of the only desserts I am good at! They're pretty simple, though." She stops as she sees Anaconda excitedly waving the basket of colorful fish, plants, and butterfly wings. "Not if we decorate them!" Delta and Anaconda start grabbing various ingredients out of the cabinets and fridge. Delta plops down an entire watermelon onto the counter that she starts to slice and crush, a Sea of a Thousand Currents specialty, and Anaconda grabs some other famously sweet items: a cinnamon loach and some tricolor caterpillars. Once those are all prepped and the fish is lightly boiled, they start to mash up the fillings into jams, with the stonewatch scrub being added to the watermelon to give it a shocking blue color. Delta grabs ingredients for a simple sugar cookie and rolls them out. Both of them press their large claws into the center of the cookie dough, creating the divot that their jam will sit in. Now onto the decorating! Since the plant-flavored cookie is already colorful, Delta works on the seafood one, arranging the vibrant killifish in circles around the edges like they are actually swimming. They decide to put the butterfly wings on after baking, afraid they could break. That is their final step right before plating; Anaconda delicately attaches the glasswings onto the tops with dollops of jam, accidentally breaking a few in the process, but they turn out stunning in the end. When the light shifts, it refracts through the the wings and Anaconda stares down at them proudly. "Well, it may not be very fancy, but it sure looks like it," Delta says. "Let's get these cookies to the judges before they all shatter on us."

He hoped his Gaoler companion had faired the trip well. Her puny wings in respect to her body mass had made things almost impossible. Lorelei had dropped back to help Solaris navigate the storms. Surely they were fine and would be here most momentarily, nothing could squish Lorelei's enthusiasm and the little Pearlcatcher almost certainly wasn't going to let some storms slow her down. The midnight male chuckled and smiled at the thought. Lorelei would drag Solaris if she had too. Picturing this made his grin even wider which helped to offset his disappointment in missing yesterday's challenge. Nothing he could do about it now other than focus on today's challenge. It was an interesting mix of ingredients but then again wasn't it always. He marveled for a while about what to make before settling on the idea of cerulean killifish surprise egg rolls with petite glasswing butterflies used as an edible glitter that would be dusted over top. Rokoshi grabbed the stonewatch scrub and started muddling it to squeeze the juices but most importantly the pigment. He took the juice and blended it into his egg roll wrappings to dye the dough blue. He filled each egg roll with a specific color of killifish as well as a blend of different colored carrots and cabbage that would pop against the color of the fish. The rolls were fried to golden brown and served with slightly sweet and savory dipping sauce. He dusted the rolls with the finely ground glasswing butterfly wings as edible glitter. Lorelei would have insisted and they weren't team Sprinkles for nothing. For so many years he had cooked soli and it hadn't been until recently that he had had a team and now that he was alone again it felt... odd. It was certainly a lot quieter though which was nice. Also a lot less stress compared to the spontaneous shenanigans and chaos brought by the others. He presented the eggs rolls with a lavish bow. This really was a pretty dish with bold colors and flavors. He expected to place in the top percentile today with this dish.

Deacon set some white rice to cook and tiptoed over to Jwaila, who had by now finished de-feathering and cutting up the pelican. The nocturne, feeling a little calmer, nodded in agreement and diced the pelican meat and began marinating it in teriyaki sauce before cooking it in a pan. Diego did his best to carefully boil the water plates until they were soft, but not falling apart. He then laid them out on a cutting board and cut them into uniform sizes using an exacto knife. Then he put them into the muffin molds and slid the muffin tin into the oven to bake the shield into shape. Once the bird and rice were ready, Deacon poured both into a bowl and added the fish oil, mixing it up to a slimy consistency and adding some herbs and a healthy dose of salt. She then scooped the mixture into the muffin tin with the water shield cups and put it back in the oven on low heat to make the mixture set, but not ruin the fussy fish oil. A strong smell of fish filled the air. The trio looked at the final product: a fishy pelican rice muffin. While all three nodded in satisfaction, none of them were terribly keen on eating one whole due to their conflicting diets. Jwaila grinned deviously as she waved Verismo over to give the dish a taste. [rule] Fun fact, you absolutely, positively, are advised not to cook with fish oil online, lol. The one exception is to use it in baking (tho it was implied that you'd have to be a real special type of person to want to do that). So I was split between another salad idea with fish oil dressing or the muffin idea, which I liked better.
