[center][b]Tuesday[/b] [i]Describe how your clan interacts with animal companions. Is there a "typical" way dragons adopt them? Does your clan's location affect keeping animal companions?[/i] There are a great many cats living independent lives in the Southern Icefields, cohabiting spaces with dragons and especially in the Icewarden's digs. Dragons are adopted by cats more than the other way around. All of the cats who live with various members of our clan have just shown up one day, making it clear they had picked themselves a companion. It usually works out - adventurous dragons are adopted by risk taking cats, homebody dragons (such as Deann) are befriended by cats who adore cozyness and good food above all else. Deann's birds were a gift from another clan member. Birds seem to all have come from merchants in warmer climes. On the other hand, the multitude of reptiles and amphibians who accompany some of our more "magical" denizens have more mysterious origins, generally hitching a ride home with a dragon from one adventure or another. How does that relationship different from familiars?[/i] Animal companions are looked upon as pets and/or as friends - creatures who have chosen to share their lives with a dragon. Familiar relationships are more fluid - creatures who enhance a dragons powers and in turn are empowered. Deann's cat companions are treated as honored guests - offered special tidbits from meal tables, allowed to monopolize any sunny spots, and they each have their own fluffy puffy cushion for sleeping. Her birds have a most elaborate aviary for their own use - more an indoor forest than anything else - where the cats are not allowed to prowl.
