Hi all!

A quick update as the day turns to evening: We haven't forgotten our final raffle drawings (including for the GRAND PRIZE) nor showcases, so don't worry!

Today was Judge Figura's (that's me, hi) wife's birthday, an event which has made it harder for us judges to coordinate and finalize our post, but because of that delay we wanted to make sure you all got an update! And of course, we'll be pinging you all for those posts, so no need to worry about missing them. Stay tuned!

hello folks! the final showcase is still yet to come (it's me, I'm the delay person) but before that is the accounting!

we've discovered a gap in the rules which was left over from combining two different event styles, so now it's time to clarify -- if you missed a day entirely, you may make up / purchase those 2 tickets for the raffle for 1000t; if you completed half of a challenge on a particular day (scry but no outfit; outfit but no scry) then you can get the additonal ticket for 500t.

essentially you can get up to the maximum of 14 tickets by paying 500t per ticket. we'll make this clearer if we run a similar event in the future -- in the meantime the deadline for make up ticket payments will be rollover going into Thursday, so that's 23:59:59 Wednesday 21 February. please PM or CR me - both are fine, but figura's passing everything over to me anyway so we may as well save her the work!

just by joining you earned a badge of your choice as your participation badge, and you can still make up for missed badges by completing the full set of scries and outfits - 7 of each - through the end of our dom week, i.e. ending at 23:59:59 on Saturday 24 February going into Sunday the 25th.

here's our inventory of tickets - please let us know if you think I've made any errors (yep it's me again, also the errors person if there are any)

alphabetically:

@Ackie - 0 raffle tickets (but the make up entries get you all 15 badges :3)
@BlueHamble - 1 ticket
@Bxy26 - 6 tickets
@dividedAnimus - 4 tickets
@DrShadowC - 7 tickets
@givemeyourbones - 12 tickets
@Kesslion - 7 tickets
@kilorechoy - 1 ticket
@Kothra - 12 tickets
@Marketplace - 12 tickets
@MeiLa - 3 tickets
@Polty - 5 tickets
@SingingDragon - 10 tickets
@Vosmikot - 8 tickets

@/charliesneeze @/Doozie @/Draugwen @/Golden @/Islet @/Wolfspeaker @/Kieren all have the maximum 14 tickets (and earned the full set of badges) so were not pinged!

The judges both loved both of Islet's creations for Saturday's theme! Both the scry and the outfit display such wonderful knowledge and care towards Chinese culture—and they're beautiful, too. In the scry, "surplus of meanings" is certainly accurate, with every element—down to the Flight Rising color names accounted for. And despite the level of detail in meanings invoked, the color coordination here remains absolutely spot-on. Really, is there anything more satisfying (or lucky-feeling?) than a perfectly matching XYZ dragon? But ultimately, Islet's explanation speaks for itself, so check it out below:
Entry Description: Surplus of meanings. Reasoning:

Spiral for round shapes (shape of heaven, gold, auspiciousness).
Harlequin is a species of duck(happiness, health, fertility).
Crimson as a type of red(luck, joy and happiness). Duck is eaten during the lunar new year.
Marigold (EU) was originally categorized as a Chrysanthemum (longevity) and are also called juhua in mandarin. Chrysanthemums are lucky flowers during Chinese New Year.
Blaze to symbolize fireworks(to drive away evil).
Gold(good luck, wealth, prosperity and good fortune) to symbolize gift giving, specifically the gifting of money in red packets.
The runes on the whole assembly create a mesh of red and gold which points to the decoration of windows and doors with red paper-cuts and couplets for good fortune or happiness, wealth, and longevity.
Light and bright eyes are chosen for eye color to symbolize lanterns (driving out darkness and bringing hope to the coming year).
[columns] [nextcol] Dragon: Skydancer Female Primary: Crimson Harlequin Secondary: Marigold Blaze Tertiary: Gold Runes Eyes: Light Bright [/columns]
Islet's outfit submission, "Homecoming" (a.k.a. "Family Dinner) is similarly thoughtful. Judge figura loves the way the Light Aura + Plague Aura combination perfectly ties in Emanate's gradients of pale chartreuse to gold and red and her wind primal eyes—all while also invoking the lantern light in Islet's description. Indeed, all the little details here are thoughtfully matched without sacrificing the overall elegance of the outfit, with the new cooking pan apparel being a charming finishing touch that also gave us judges an opportunity to learn about tangyuan (yum!). aly specifically wanted to applaud the combination of the Light and Plague auras, adding the red and yellow-green accents that match everything else so well.
Dragon: Emanate Entry Description: Homecoming. Evening falls, and with it, the first full moon of the year ascends the sky. To celebrate new beginnings(yuan), the family gathers(in traditional festive garb) to make and enjoy tangyuan. Many lanterns are lit across the land to cast away the darkness, and upon return a sweet ginger aroma fills the kitchen, amber light enveloping the household to drive away the cold of night. Judge figura's picks also include this spot-on bamboo scry from Doozie! We got lots of great lucky bamboo-inspired submissions on Saturday, but I adore the way that Doozie uses just breed and gene choices to create such a spot-on imitation! The wasp gene—especially on female-pose spiral—is simply too perfect here for creating the jointed look of bamboo, and the contour tert totally seals the deal.
Entry Description: some nicely twisted up lucky bamboo for your home [columns] [nextcol] Dragon: Spiral Female Primary: Honeydew Wasp Secondary: Green Seraph Tertiary: Pear Contour Eyes: Nature Swirl [/columns]
once again, aly couldn't decide on only two or three, so to save space the rest will be links - though no less appreciated for not being shown! their comments are: to start - I'm grouping these three together because they have the same basic idea - throw a bunch of lucky things together for the ultimate outfit of ultimate luck! However, instead of throwing a bunch of things at the [s]wall[/s] dragon, they are also good-looking and coherent outfits Wolfspeaker's outfit - without the fish, this is just a nice looking wealthy lil guy - but instead he is much cooler because he has friends -- who are of course the real treasure and/or luck. Daily Highlights

Stars of the Lucky New Year daily spotlight are Islet's scry and outfit!

Quote:
Entry Description: Surplus of meanings.

Reasoning:
 • Spiral for round shapes (shape of heaven, gold, auspiciousness).
 • Harlequin is a species of duck(happiness, health, fertility).
 • Crimson as a type of red(luck, joy and happiness). Duck is eaten during the lunar new year.
 • Marigold (EU) was originally categorized as a Chrysanthemum (longevity) and are also called juhua in mandarin. Chrysanthemums are lucky flowers during Chinese New Year.
 • Blaze to symbolize fireworks(to drive away evil).
 • Gold(good luck, wealth, prosperity and good fortune) to symbolize gift giving, specifically the gifting of money in red packets.
 • The runes on the whole assembly create a mesh of red and gold which points to the decoration of windows and doors with red paper-cuts and couplets for good fortune or happiness, wealth, and longevity.
 • Light and bright eyes are chosen for eye color to symbolize lanterns (driving out darkness and bringing hope to the coming year).

Primary: Crimson Harlequin
Secondary: Marigold Blaze
Tertiary: Gold Runes
Eyes: Light Bright

Quote:
Dragon: Emanate
Entry Description: Homecoming.

But Islet's creations weren't the only great work yesterday!

Quote:
Entry Description: some nicely twisted up lucky bamboo for your home

once again, aly couldn't decide on only two or three, so to save space the rest will be links - though no less appreciated for not being shown! their comments are:

to start - I'm grouping these three together because they have the same basic idea - throw a bunch of lucky things together for the ultimate outfit of ultimate luck! However, instead of throwing a bunch of things at the wall dragon, they are also good-looking and coherent outfits

Wolfspeaker's outfit - without the fish, this is just a nice looking wealthy lil guy - but instead he is much cooler because he has friends -- who are of course the real treasure and/or luck.

Kothra's outfit - great skin choice, and I can imagine a great little 'lucky adventure' story as this dragon goes out to collect lucky items (and friends)!

charliesneeze's outfit - another instance of great skin usage!

tiny doodle of a red daisy with a yellow center8Ct1vBZ.png8Ct1vBZ.png

moving along, we had some informative commentary with a few submissions!

Golden shared a New Year's tradition from Spain that's humorous, decadent, and delicious all in one! (and of course I am biased to see a theatre reference in the outfit)

givemeyourbones's scry showed a mix of Chinese New Year traditions mostly relating to food, featuring a long noodle as some long noodles!

Polty focused on the Japanese art of kintsugi, which mends objects in a way that highlights the repairs - in my opinion, a testament to making one's own luck!

Bxy26 also drew inspiration from Japan - specifically from the lucky 'beckoning cat' statues which ward off bad luck while inviting in the good!

tiny doodle of a red daisy with a yellow center8Ct1vBZ.png8Ct1vBZ.png

and finally (hey look everyone we're nearly at the end of the last time you have to see me post a mile-long commentary) there are two submissions that I think deserve highlighting based on Emotional Resonance TM:

first up are SingingDragon's scry and outfit - I genuinely love that little lucky bug, but also I went to the dressing room and tried the originally threatened outfit, and ... yeah, you're right about that actually. I did indeed laugh.

and then on a somewhat different part of the emotional spectrum is the great accent use in Kesslion's outfit because yes! rabbit goes with moon! rabbit goes with luck! great gold + red + black theme!! however I am afraid of hares so to me this is a very nice outfit but the Creature is Lurking. which is hilarious if you're willing to poke fun at your irrational fears, which I am -- I just can't believe I like this outfit so much with that scary guy staring at me!

Haha, it's not about friends, it's just the symbol of the fish itself. FR doesn't have any cooked fish apparel, so I had to make do! I didn't have time to write a detailed explanation of all the different components and assumed you would know since you were judging.

Thanks for running the event! It was a lot of fun.
