TOPIC | She/They?!?!

Some people want to be called "him," "her" or "they".
I don't care how I'm referred to, so long as it's not in a derogatory way.
Love who you want and be yourself.

I use any and all pronouns because how I'm perceived by others isn't fully in my control, and mentally/emotionally/etc, I don't feel like my assigned at birth gender and I don't feel like the opposite or neither. I feel like a person.

If someone wants to call me he or she or they or it or anything else, that's a them issue. Because when they're addressing me? They usually use "you" or my name. It's only when discussing me with other people that my pronouns are used.

I don't have any desire to change the body I was born with either hormonally or surgically. However, using tattoos, piercings and hair dye? Absolutely. My body has never been my issue when it comes to gender, which I know it is for a lot of folks, but to me, my body is simply a body. It's no different than anyone else's body. The parts it has are irrelevant.

@Aquafilia I think you were surprised at the use in a professional email of pronouns, and I get that. I'm old enough to be jaded by hatred and pleasantly surprised by acceptance. I've seen the change in real time over decades. So I definitely get your surprise and it's a little bittersweet?

Because I have fought for my queer rights, my rights to be who I am, for so long and got so much grief for it, and now that's its becoming accepted and normalized, that pain is still there, but it doesn't mean I'm not happy for these kids that get to grow up able to explore and be themselves. It's wonderful and makes me happy, but at the same time I mourn what I had to go through so we could get here. But this is the outcome I always wanted: acceptance, safety, love.

[/quote] I’m in Seattle. Pronouns have been de rigueur here for awhile. 99% of the time it’s older cisfolk doing their part to normalize the practice of saying and asking, without any real change to the underlying paradigm. But seeing she/they… “bittersweet” is a good word for my feeling.

Please note - wonky eyes & busted hands; thanks for help & patience!
@Aquafilia

I wish it was like that where I am, but it's not safe here to be too openly LGBT+. It's rural and conservative. I wish it was safer to be out and proud, and compared to twenty years ago it is much better, but not like the bigger cities.
