The devotion he has earned from them is genuine, and they're the only ones regularly able to see his compassionate and caring side, being some of the only lives he truly cares for outside of his own. But for nearly everyone else, if you don't have something to give him or for him to take, then you probably aren't worth his time. And Eleven help you if he decides your possessions are worth it... Of all the crew aboard the sandship, she might be the most trusted member, given her diplomatic role and her ability to adapt and predict more or less accurately what her ragtag pack needs. But that friendliness begins and ends with them. Say the word and she'll be the first one manning the cannons and plundering riches from passing traders and merchants. Submission through intimidation is the name of the game in Buck's small fleet when it comes to... [i]appropriating[/i] loot, and she's willing to abide that, but if it should fail, Barracuda is more than happy to get hands-on. When not at work, and especially after a good haul, he often takes it upon himself to be the center of any celebrations or general good times, using his mimicry and whatever instrument he can find to further liven everyone's mood. And when they're sailing, he's usually the first one to start up a rousing tune. Given their home environment being in the desert of the Shifting Expanse, his role as their navigator is particularly invaluable. Not only are his maps and general navigational prowess important for keeping track of where in the vast landscape of sand they are, but his affinity with water is called upon frequently to locate sources of fresh drinking water while they're out on the dunes.
