The ground was dusty and hard—wholly unsuitable for plants. Had Luminax done this much damage to the ground? Sable didn’t remember this much erosion from her hatching days. By late morning they found what looked to be the ruins of an old lair. Sable felt strange scavenging where dragons may have lived in her own lifetime, but their efforts could be useful if they could learn more about recent tremors. Errai found a cave and Sable helped her clear the entrance. They ventured inside and found that it wasn’t a cave at all, but the start of a tunnel system. Had this clan lived partially underground, just like her own? If so, there might be much more to find intact items to find down here than there would be up above. Sable blew herself a small ball of handheld light, and set off with the others down the tunnel. She kept close to the walls, looking for any markings the former residents may have left. A rumble started. Quiet at first, then louder until she could feel it under her feet. Was this the tremors they were sent to investigate? Dust clouded the tunnel with the sound of falling stone. Sable’s eyes widened. She hurried back to the entrance as fast as she safely could, but the tunnel was already blocked off. Sable shuddered. Tunnels were all well and good for a short visit, but she was a creature of light— she dreaded the thought of being stuck down there long term. The group gathered around the collapse and debated on what to do. Most of them opted to look for another way out. Surely at least a few of them should stay and try to move the fallen debris? There may be another exit nearby, but it was better to keep both options open. All night he lay staring at the mists, not sure how much of their movement was real and how much his mind was making up. Or perhaps the Shade was making up, but he tried not to think about that part. He was careful to keep other group members in sight at all times while they were exploring. He paused in front of a large structure. He didn’t see any signs of habitation, which perhaps was odd, but after yesterday he found that greatly preferable to finding some of the residents. Inside the stru culture was a raised platform and a circle of symbols he didn’t recognize. Savir was familiar with a number of runes and sigil systems, but perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising that he didn’t know these— no one knew much about the Hewn City. Skywall explains behind him that this was likely a spell array, and a powerful one at that. This could be dangerous, but for now Savir’s curiosity overruled his fears. He watched with interest as Melusine showed them how to use the energy sensor. The plant species he knew, but they didn’t have equipment like this at home. Melusine offered to answer some questions and he took the opportunity to ask about animals eating them, thinking of his familiar and its kin. A spiral had a similar question. Thankfully, no adverse effects had been noted for eating them, and if the deer didn’t think they were dangerous, then perhaps they weren’t. Roscoe lapsed into working quietly, content for now merely to make himself useful. After a while, he notices a row of colored liquids beside Melusine. Were those involved in the plant experiments? He asks her about them.

Search for another entrance to the cave (Thursday)

You decide to search for another entrance to the cave. You fly around the area, swooping low. You explore every opening you find, no matter how large or small.

One such cave near the Hewn City has creatures inside, with long talons, spindly leather wings and sunken faces. You leave that particular cave behind.

By dusk, your search has been fruitless. You return to camp with a heavy heart.

You shift stone and try your hardest to clear out a path. You must move something wrong because dust billows everywhere as the ceiling collapses around you. Chunks of stone and dirt rain down and you hurriedly tuck yourself under a slanted slab.

Maybe that wasn’t the best idea. You should probably search the tunnels instead and see if there’s another exit.

Your group ventures deeper into the tunnels. At some point there starts to be carvings in the walls and your journey slows as you pause to examine them.

Some symbols look to be a language, though not one you recognize. Errai copies the symbols onto parchment and you do the same.

Eventually, after a few hours of wandering, you tire. You are still in the tunnels and you’ve travelled a long way.

How far do these tunnels stretch? Time has begun to loose meaning when you turn a corner and spot an opening up ahead. Sunlight shines through and you hurry towards it. At last! The floor slopes upwards and you come out to a sunny clearing. In the middle lies a half buried structure, circular and missing its roof. A distant rumble sounds. Errai frowns at the horizon but does nothing. You pay it no mind. Perhaps, you should have. Search tunnels for another way out (Thursday)

You venture deeper into the tunnels. Surely they must lead somewhere.

Do you…
 1. Wander inside and take a closer look
 2. Walk through the outside grounds
