Her friend Delta had convinced her to sign up for the Sorneith Winter Games this year, and she had to admit that she was glad that she did. It was quite exciting to watch all of the dragons that had signed up complete their respective events. She was also very excited to compete in her own event, the ski jumping. It was similar to Delta's event, but not the same so they wouldn't have to compete against each other...and Delta inevitably win with her multiple years of experience more. They were staying in different hotel rooms, but had requested ones that were down the hall from each other. She smiled as she recalled how they would go down to the cafe and grab a mug of hot cocoa together while watching the other competitors' events. The lodge was huge, and there were seemingly endless amounts of fuzzy couches and chairs and lounges, so they never had to worry about finding a seat, either. It was so big that even though there were even more dragons from her own Clan, she rarely saw them during the day, and had no clue where their rooms would be located. She snapped out of her thoughts as the announcer declared that it was almost her turn. Anaconda slipped on her skis, adjusting them to fit snugly up against her feet and looping one of the fasteners over her large front claw. She was also wearing her skiing outfit, which consisted of a bodysuit made out of a smooth fabric with fleece on the inside. It helped keep her warm, and she was very thankful for it as the crisp wind of the Southern Icefield brushed her wings. She stepped up to the starting line once instructed and spread her feet apart, ready to go sliding down the hill and launch herself into the air. She could see a small familiar-colored speck in the stands and smiled. Delta must've come to watch her, just as she did with her friend. It's now or never, she thought, preparing herself. It was finally her time to shine!

Chillfroth's explanations seemed to fall on deaf ears; his attempts to placate Moonmanth were failing miserably. He wished Frozenth…. Where was Frozenth, anyway? As if hearing his soundless call, she burst into the room, in a flurry of ice. “Oh!” she said spying Moonmanth, who was working himself into colors with his fury, “Come with me! The Weyr needs you!” Just like that, he deflated. What an intriguing statement! He followed her out. Quickly, she explained that Tutroith had been unable to make it. He had departed later for the Southern Icefields, having delayed to stock up on “Bonfire Bonbons” that Pralinth couldn’t churn out fast enough, and encountered an avalanche along his route. While he could have gotten around it in time for his event, there had been a call for all nearby hands to help dig for survivors, and he couldn’t glide away in good conscience. He’d sent a message ahead that he was bowing out of the Games, in spite of all the time he had spent preparing. His Dad had raised him right!. “So,” Frozenth concluded, “we thought you could fill in for him, since you are in great physical condition and haven’t already worn yourself out like that lot” she waved in the others’ general direction. What do you say?” Moonmanth coiled his tail, and slapped it resoundingly to the floor. “YES” He would step in to save the day! And there was no time to lose. They would need to hurry to keep their place in the day’s line-up.

He had practiced his routine tirelessly, ensuring every fish moved in sync alongside with him. His signature move was to be the triple flip triple dolphin: if executed right, he and his school of dancers would, for a moment, embody the rings of the Winter Games itself. However, the competition was tough: from the stands, sipping his cocoa, he watched the routines of the others. Truly, they were a sight to behold, but he wasn't intimidated. So long as he and his school performed well, then he could leave and hold his head up high, medal or not.

If you’d like a notification for the start of next year’s games, please ping @JinxMoonstone in this thread. This post is the last time the Daily Ping List will be used.
7165160.png Since prizes are sent after clans already return home, please be patient with our couriers, who have to travel all over Sornieth to deliver prizes. Allow up to four weeks for drop off of souvenirs, as all competitors who do not medal will still be given a memento from this year’s Gala.
8023219.png This is also the final reminder to please check the spreadsheet if you think you may have missed filling out one of your event entry forms. There’s still time to make corrections today, but the correction booth will be closed at the end of the festival. Our clan will try to be on the lookout for missing entries today, but it’s best if you double-check your own submissions.
7165160.png Our standard disclaimer: Competitors remain solely responsible for making sure the correct paperwork has been submitted in order to be eligible for prizes. Winter Games event officials are not responsible for missing paperwork that may lead to disqualification, and duplicate entries will be removed from consideration.
8023219.png Every year, I’m glad that part’s over - it’s never fun finding out someone didn’t get their raffle tickets because they didn’t complete the entry form! Now for something a bit more exciting: the winner’s announcement for Friday’s word of the day. @Tues will take home Cocoa! (Cocoa is a cute little black cat who was looking for a new clan.)
7165160.png Today’s word of the day is home. Speaking of home, it’s a good idea for all dragons returning to their clans today or tomorrow to check the latest weather forecast before leaving. Although Winter Storm Crystal seems to be subsiding, make sure you have the right supplies for your trip! The dragons over at the Winter Weather Watch may be able to advise you if you have any travel or supply-related questions.
8023219.png I know that challenges this year made travel to the Gala difficult, so our entire clan wants to thank you for being here! We appreciate the time it takes to travel, prep, and participate in the Winter Games and hope everyone had a great time again this year! Be sure to bundle up and enjoy the last day of the Gala, and don’t forget to pick up your participation medal before heading home. We hope to see all of you back here again next year!

It was a clear day and the air before him clouded with each slow, steady breath. There was a thrum of excitement building up behind his breastbone. He glanced towards the stands, looking for the familiar faces of his clanmates, but he couldn't pick out any dragons he recognised in the buzzing crowd. No matter. He knew they were there, cheering him along.
