So a while ago there was a demand to get mammoths while hunting, after all they are right there in the picture. I still haven't caught a mammoth yet.
But, look at how the dragons hunt, or rather, what they bring back: They bring back small things, it's like your lair is going "Okay we're here, let's go guys!" And they all run out into the region, catching food on their own and burning energy, and probably stuffing their faces while they do it, that's why sometimes 20 dragons bring back a single satin mouse--they ate the rest!
(Small hauls in digging and scavenging are because they are keeping the rest for their personal hoards?)
So I put down my game of War of The Lions and came to write this proposal:
I propose that you can send a group of dragons to a region, and while they were away you can't breed or coli with them. But they still need to eat--to represent the supplies you sent with them.
After a few days they will come back, hopefully with a big chunk of food. Giant mushrooms, huge head of cabbage, a megadolon, a mammoth, a mosquito that dine on whole cities as appetizers.
Each region would have one or two potential food types, with the probable exception of the Arcane region, which will have the pull of "Oh sweet Anarchist, what did the magics mutate into a giant twenty food monster this time?"
Possible other suggestions:
Coli level maters
Gain coli experience on expeditions

Oh My Arcanist- I love this idea! It's perfectly amazing!
It could also be another treasure sink, as you can let 1 group of 5 dragons per week go for free, but every extra group could cost 2k-3k or something. (Or if limited to one group, can buy one time use buffs to increase food returns or only get seafood or meat or bugs, or plants, etc.)
It's a gamble how much you bring back, it could be 50 food, it could be 500, (suggest the minimum be 50 food points for 5 dragons going for a week (7 days) as they can not Coli or Breed and still eat food while gone.
ETA:
Another idea to expand on the idea of buying bonuses, there could be a one time use item available for Treasure in the marketplace, that allows your dragons to instead forage for items. Randomly get any items available for trade ins to Crim. (To avoid gene scrolls, etc being foraged) It could cost 10k, and be a complete gamble.
When you use it while sending out an expedition team, you could get 5 bird skulls, a dozen moldy leather, a bird-skull headdress, steampunk scaves, whatever. Anything Crim asks for, you could find. This could mean awesome clothes, or small stacks of bugs, etc.

I think this could be interesting. I always did wonder why the large guardians and ridgebacks couldn't at least bring down a deer.

If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?

For Digging and Scavenging expeditions, since there's no direct correlation for those and "BUG MONSTER FROM THE DEEPS, CHOW DOWN GUYS" maybe...more expensive things?
Like, yeah, you can use the market place item to just bring back a massive haul of normal stuff. But in WoTL there were artifacts and discoveries which were did nothing but give you background info, look pretty, and fuel your inner completionist.
So maybe something like that could happen? Art of smaller locations and a bit of a blurb?
The Fae City of the Star Wood Stand, with their cobwebby nest balls shown, a blurb on how it's one of the longest lasting Fae lairs and there are strict building laws in effect to keep it from crashing down. ANd you'd get themed stuff from there.
Sure you can send your dragons there again to trade, but who's to say they won't get waylaid?

Oh! Yes! there is so much art in the Beastiary that would eventually be AWESOME to see here! I really love that- the idea of "for collection purposes only" items.
That's even better than having marketplace and Crim items available. :3

Why is the suggestion forum full of ideas I like today? This is a good idea!
I especially love idea finding more lore items if you go on scavenging/digging expeditions. The secret cities where you can trade is an interesting idea as well.
