Entry 19
Littlescale sidled up to Sundry. "This is depressing. I want to go back home and sleep, don't you?"
Sundry's fins flattened slightly. "I'm honestly not sure which way home would be at this point. I don't really think we can go back...especially not after what happened with the animals. Do you really think they would accept us back there now?"
Littlescale shuddered, remembering Evaleena's wrath. "Well, we could say they coerced us..."
The two small dragons lapsed into silence. They watched as Nadja ranged ahead, looking for more survivors.
(Phase 1: recruiting)
Found Too Late
Today's Survivor
Nadja returned with a garishly coloured Pearlcatcher. He had a gruesome wound trailing from his shoulder down to his tail which she seemed to have covered in some sort of mossy poultice.
"It's still pretty bad out there." she murmured. "There are scavengers about, so we had best be careful."
(Phase 2: EVENT)
Crimes Time!
Nadja beckoned Tyrantfeller over. "We are going to see if there is anything the scavengers missed. Tyrantfeller followed her silently.
Unfortunately, not all of the bodies were unattended, but Nadja utilized her considerable strength to chase off the wise and crush the foolish. Tyrantfeller nipped and sliced at the heels of their foes as best as they could.
When they approached the fifth body, Nadja looked down and stared.
"This is..."
Her lips pressed together firmly. She looked around...and saw another.
She recalled the stories Aega had told her about the children he had left behind. She now knew them almost as well as her own.
Suddenly, Nadja heard some sounds. They were almost oddly merry, considering the situation, but occasionally she could hear some sounds of dismay and disgust.
"Wait here." She commanded Tyrantfeller, and began to stealthily approach them.
When she got closer, she saw an entourage of wind flight dragons, dressed in the garb of emissaries to their diety.
"Hello over there." She called. "Do you know the way out of this place?"
The Skydancer leading them jumped, startled. "Well, not exactly, but we are recruiting survivors to go and serve at the Windsinger's side. When we number ten, I will activate this runestone, and we will be transported directly there."
Nadja noted the size of the group. There were nine.
"Did you want to come with us? You can't want to stay in a place like this, I'm sure."
"Wait one moment. I need to settle some matters. Please, stay here."
The Skydancer shrugged. "Well do please hurry, this area isn't very safe."

Nadja returned to Tyrantfeller. "Take the spoils back to the group. I will need Aega's assistance with something. I will return shortly."
She ran ahead of him despite his speed, using her larger stride to outpace him. When she got back to the group, she headed straight towards Aega.
"You must come with me at once. A matter has arisen."
Aega looked up at her, concerned. Nadja seldom made an urgent request unless she felt it absolutely necessary.
"Very well."
Nadja lead him in a slightly circuitous route, intending to bypass the bodies. She would not allow him to see...those ones.
Finally, she returned to the group. Aega looked at them, and bowed. "Hello there, fellow dragons. What.."
In a smooth, swift, motion, Nadja pulled the rusted, bloody sword from the sheath at Aega's side. She struck him fiercely on his head with the back of the blade, and he crumpled. The group of dragons rustled slightly in shock.
She took the sword from him. "You must get him out of here. He cannot...stay here any longer."
Nadja held the sword and pointed it at the group. "Leave. Now."
She was now stronger than him in body as well as in mind. She no longer would have to watch as her friend descended into madness, staying in this strange place. He would no longer have to deal with the responsibility of this desperate group.
And he would be safely away from the corpses of his long lost children.
It would be no difficulty to enforce her rule once she returned, as many already deferred to her. This was all for the best. She watched as the group hastily scooped up Aega's unconscious form, activated the rune, and vanished in shafts of green light.

(In accordance to the rules of the game, once a dragon is higher level than the leader, they take over and the leader is banished in shame. I decided to adapt that mechanic to the story in a way appropriate to the characters involved.)
