I think Goldenfury is definitely an average (but ambitious) alchemist! The fog from his Wraith gene isn't actually genetics - it's the result of a freak lab accident, and it smells oddly like fruit and old paper. He runs around with an animated cauldron that's a bit too eager to dissolve materials, but the pair is mostly harmless, so long as they don't stumble upon anything explosive...
