Perhaps this would be a good time to check the volcanic region. It'll be a long journey, but knowing the status of the area will certainly help you plan for the future.
You consider the birds fleeing to the north. It may be a sign of important activity, but as the marked volcanic region lies to the southeast, it's hard to pick a most likely culprit. You tell your swarm to be on guard.
Though you do not explicitly intend to leave with any portion of your swarm, Lizzie is very unwilling to see you go alone. Two scourers, two scavengers, and Li'l Bub accompany you. Each scavenger is carrying an egg. You may send them back if you so choose, of course.
The farmer is still working on laying out a farm at your base camp. The remaining scourers and scavengers will work to keep the swarm's food supply at a steady level. Lizzie is not currently laying eggs (since you have so many in reserve), so barring anything nasty happening, your swarm and camp should stay just as you leave them. You prepare to depart...
You stay close to the river for as long as you can. It's easier going, though that's not saying much. Your scourers help to clear the way.
The sky darkens and your legs start to buckle beneath you. Exhausted, you drag yourself to some sunken pools a bit off the riverbank. The jungle turf curves downwards, leading to cavities into which the river pours, swirls, and eventually stills. The trees here are thin. Starlight dances on the pools and illuminates the river-mist, and faintly bioluminescent creatures lend the place a soft blue phosphorescence. It seems like a quiet place to spend the night.
Your stomach growls loudly.
Beyond the pools, the river surges. It is far deeper and broader here than at the swarm-burrow. You have seen mighty creatures (some fish-like, some not) braving its currents.
The pools seem to be unusually deep. There is no sign of a bottom.

Sandshrew6 I've considered reviving it a few times, but since it's been a year or so since it was active, I wouldn't expect any of the previous players to remember the plot thus far. And since my life is kinda unpredictable--that's what killed it the first time--I'm unwilling to guarantee I can keep the game running.
If there were 5 or so people willing to catch up on the plot and accept the possibility of the game being dropped again, I'd revive this in a heartbeat.
