Millipedes and invertebrates are technically animals....
Exactly what I was going to say. It bothers me when people say inverts aren't animals - an animal is "a living organism which feeds on organic matter, typically having specialised sense organs and nervous system and able to respond rapidly to stimuli." Which all inverts are. :P On topic though, I love millipedes! I've actually wanted to get one (or a few) for a while, but I'm broke and it would be irresponsible of me to get anymore pets. Still, they're really neat! I definitely recommend doing as much research as possible. Exotic pets usually require specific amounts of heat and humidity, though I'm not sure about bumblebee millipedes in particular (I wanted to get a giant African millipede and never really looked into any other species).

I've kept bumblebee millipedes before. I found them very easy to care for. The big thing with them and most millipedes is making sure you have a good substrate with plenty of decaying leaves and wood bits from hardwood trees. The bulk of mines diet consisted of oak leaves/wood from my oak tree. A lot of people will mix a powdered calcium source right into the substrate, although some also like to add small chunks of cuttlefish bone. I find a naturalistic set up with these guys is best so I suggest adding springtails to the soil as they will help prevent mold from forming in the moist substrate millipedes like along with delaying mold growth on any fresh veggies/fruit you supply.

Make sure you wash any veggies/fruit you add very well. Some people prefer to get only organic to lower the risk from exposure to pesticides, but keep in mind organic doesn't mean producers don't use pesticides just that they use "natural" repellants so once again make sure to wash anything very well before adding it.

@Krissim Oh!! so if i had, say, a grandmother Oak who has recently lost a lot of branches, could i chop/break those up and mix them in to the soil? and would a coco coir/sand mixture be a good substrate? and would something like Repti-cal (calcium powder that you dust on bugs for reptiles) work?

HELLO FELLOW HUMAN TEENS I HEARD THE COOLEST PLACE FOR US TEENS TO HANG OUT IS The Colossal Pillar of Wasp Eggs LETS GO DO NOT BRING WEAPONS
Hello, I have a question about how many pounds of substrate are required to fill a 40 gallon terrarium up to the 6 inch mark. I would like to keep 12 Orthoporus Ornatus in there, since my first millipede was one named Olly. Please tell me if 40 gallons is enough housing space too.

Sincerely, PartyPiggy98

@partypiggy98 i would think it would depend on what kind of substrate youre using. maybe 10 pounds? somewhere in that area?
