@Philemon Yeahhh, I'm imagine the military generally tries It's best to keep out sadists with hair trigger tempers out. But, that's just a small thing in comparison with how much other wrong stuff happens in Elfen Lied. Even by anime standards no one acts rationally at alllll for one thing. -__- Plus It's like, literally everyone is just awful? and any decent people typically get blown up into a pile of gore, I'm pretty sure.

Vampire Holmes

I 100000% suggest watching it it's 12 episodes with like 3 minutes per episode and it's the worst anime you will ever watch in your life

@nothingnowhere Yeah it's part of an ongoing "theme" with the series - like how the kids torture a small animal. They say humanity is terrible by exaggerating what people do and then have the characters you're supposed to sympathize with act like bloodthirsty warlords. It has some okay ideas as a series but the execution is mind-blowingly terrible.

It's like they can't decide if the Dicloni were supposed to be sentient on the level of a human or a dog. Dogs aren't as culpable for their actions as people are, but the main character Diclonus has the sentience of a human yet we're supposed to sympathize with creatures that are trained to kill.

Sword Art Online. I tend to just watch anime I'm interested in that shows promise, but I'd heard things about this series, and... well. It's a good concept at first - the idea of an MMO death game could make for an exciting, high-stakes series where even the main character is constantly risking their life every waking second, but it's executed so badly.

The plot has barely any thought put into it, the characters are poorly written, and most have little to no screentime at all to make us care for them, or exist purely to make Kirito look good as part of his obligatory harem that makes absolutely no sense as to why it's there in the first place, considering Kirito does nothing throughout the entire series to prove his desirability other than being ridiculously overleveled because he's the main character, the worldbuilding is only there when the plot calls for it and lacks any attention to detail, and the fight scenes are so linear and poorly-choreographed that you'd think they were directed by a 13-year-old sprite "artist" on deviantART. Don't get me started on the ridiculous Kirito-Suguha romance subplot, either. The author genuinely thought it was necessary to shoehorn in incest, and that disgusts me.

Aside from that, I stopped watching Elfen Lied at a certain point because it seemed to pride itself on being overly edgy and offensive and forgot to add meaningful drama and plot that didn't seem like it was there purely for the shock value.

Darker Than Black season 2 was incomprehensible garbage that went against everything I loved about the first season, especially with the gun-toting magical girl Contractor and the fact that Hei became a depressed hobo.

Pupa also took a concept that had the potential to be an emotional brother-sister protection story and executed it by way of nonsense plot points and obvious cannibalization porn, which made me want to puke.

I've been following a review series of The Asterisk War recently too, and I can't even begin to explain how thoughtless, soulless, heartless, and generic the entire thing is. It's like SAO, but ten times worse. And that's saying something.

I need recommendations of other awful series though, so me and the girlfriend have something to cringe at together. I have some good anime on my list and I need some bad to balance it out.

@viperidaemon Accel World is a disappointing continuation of Sword Art Online with a premise that sounded like a psychological thriller but ended up being "mysterious grill falls in love with fat and pathetic short guy". Is that cringe enough for you?

Dead Leaves is pretty weird. It was a bit cringey in an awkward way for me.

SAO ...
It bugs me that it's pretty much a rip off of .hack//sign but with more stuck players.

Devils and Realist was pretty terrible.

FLCL... I just... didn't like it. I watched all of it but it was just a meh.

One Piece because I hate the art style.

Hetalia in retrospect because it's pretty bad.

Black Butler because it was boring and I couldn't get past the first 3 episodes.

@Philemon I just looked up a general synopsis of it, and wow. So what I'm getting from it is that it's still SAO, except instead of being wish fulfilment for angsty 14 year old boys, it's wish fulfilment for overweight neckbeards instead. I think the cringe might be too much.

Also, "Kuroyukihime" - literally meaning "Black Snow Princess", according to this entry. Gee, nice name.

Never heard of Dead Leaves, but the summary for it sounds really weird. Might check it out to see what it's like.

i used to be way more into anime than i am now, mostly out of lack of things to do and an abundance of free time. nowadays i love complaining about bad anime because i'm a very Bitter Individual™ and i dislike the industry;

but anyway mirai nikki is? pretty damn bad. i feel like opinions differ heavily on this one and i used to like it a lot when i was younger because of many reasons why people still like it but mmm... it makes me very uncomfortable and i realize it's a series where lots of bad stuff will happen just for the sake of happening and in storytelling that isn't... very good. at least yuno did a pretty good job in solidifying the yandere idea but i don't think i really care

mirai nikki also strikes me as Ow, the edge, and another series that does that for me is deadman wonderland... very lazy plot with lots of unnecessary brutality and darkness. i guess that's the appeal but some of the twists are just Ew.

also sao. everyone and their dog hates sao and so do i because it is the pinnacle of bad storytelling. stay far away
