So, I’m in coli, and using a lvl 25 guardian that my friend lended me to train up my dragons. I go to silk-strewn wreckage and win the battle. My dragons don’t get any XP. I’m using a mirror and a tundra, both of which are lvl 8 and have about 800xp

Experience is based on the highest leveled dragon in your party; dragons cannot gain experience if the level they are in is more than 5 levels lower than your highest-leveled dragon. You'd need to be in the Boreal Woods or higher for your dragons to get experience.
Fortunately your friend has sent you a slightly non-standard double fodder trainer for the Mire. Check out
Maki's Coli Build Guide for how to use Brutus in the Mire.
