@Volcanodragon278, without spending any monies, you can get familiars through:

[*]Fighting in the Coliseum (you can get familiars as loot)
[*]Gathering (certain familiars come from using certain Gathering skills)
[*]Spending festival currency for the holiday familiar at the [url=http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=festive]Festive Favors Stand[/url] during a Flight festival
[*]Opening rusted/iron/gilded chests
[*]Trading items for them at Swipp's

Otherwise familiars can be purchased through the Auction House or Marketplace, or brewed at Baldwin's for treasure + transmuted items!

Note: Familiars are very rare Coli drops (somewhere below 1% chance each), Swipp trades are infrequent and expensive, and it usually requires very high Gathering levels and lots of luck to get one that way. For newbies, one of the best ways is the fact that familiars can multiply if you bond faithfully. Every time a familiar reaches a new bonding level, it gives you a chest, which has a decent chance of containing a familiar. When you're new, there's a good chance that these bonus familiars are ones you don't already have.
To get started, start training a team of dragons, or go on the AH- there are a bunch for under 5kt, especially the most common ones. Remember, the common ones give just the same rewards!
