the character limit for the subject line about nixed me xD
Been really interested in futuristic storylines, sci fi, cyberpunk, etc. lately! (especially stuff written/made a long time ago that has now already "come to pass", (ex: 1984 written by George Orwell in 1948, since it's now 2024 xD))
While I'm sure we'd all agree there are lots of legit problems we'd like to fix first (a subject for a different thread), I'm curious what sort of "futuristic luxuries" would be AWESOME to have in the near-off future (next 25-75 years)? Luxuries include things that are not necessary to basic human/planet survival, but more like "wow this would be so awesome to have!" stuff.
The quintessential example is "Flying cars!" lol, because hasn't every sci-fi writer since forever associated the future with flying cars? And it would be awesome! XD
SO... I'm curious about what 'futuristic' thing you personally would just love to have/have exist! I'm NOT putting any rules on this, so go as far-fetched as "teleportation!" or as tame as "auto-flying airplanes." Interpret the question however likely/impossible as you want ^^
Important!:
(let's respectfully not consider our own personal lifespans. I want to avoid any accidental revealing of people's ages -- for potential "minor" concerns. For the sake of this imagination game, just pretend we all get another 75+ years of living into the future, starting today ^^)
For me:
I would LOVE to have a holographic white-board type thing, where I could write in the air and open up layers of things I've already written or images etc., and move them around as I need them. Basically what you see every sci-fi detective doing! XD It'd be so nice not to have everything tied to a screen and be able to use my muscle memory to manipulate data etc!

Ability to ‘save’ thoughts or write things directly from my brain. So many more stories would come to fruition this way.

If the Scribble pen was real (it was a scam).

Ever since I was a kid I wished I had one of those World fo Warcraft Hearthstones that could teleport you home from anywhere in the world. So one of those.
Oh, and really cool plants that combine technology and biology. Imagine if we could light our houses with luminescent plants instead of electric light (and you could turn them on or off somehow).

hmmm there would be so many cool futuristic devices to have, but i'd like a way to have telepathy/let people hear your thoughts, only if it's completely voluntary on both ends ofc. but it would be nice to communicate without having to go to the effort of talking. sometimes i have a lot to say but actually Speaking is just so tiring aurhg.... so i'd love some sort of device that allowed you to speak telepathically to someone else, although again, only if both of you agreed to it (only if you both accepted it like some kind of mental phonecall, if you will lol).
also some kind of camera/recorder but for smell.... it's so fascinating to me that sight and sound were relatively easy for humans to capture but you can't capture/create smell, in a digitalized sort of format at least. like imagine taking a video and when rewatching it you can also smell the flowers or cooking food or whatever was in the video, or playing a game where you can actually smell the salt when you're at the beach, or the earth and trees when you're in the forest... it would be super weird but it could be so cool as well...
edit: also time travel and teleportation would be pretty awesome ofc, The Classics. + i just thought of another, powered flight for humans. like, give me wings. i hate planes and i don't want to have some clunky contraption or only be able to glide, just give me some holographic wings or something and let me fly around like a bird :3

also, a whooooole bunch of accessibility stuff. for example...

glasses that give a realtime transcription of what someone is saying; bonus if they can filter out background noise so you don't get random snippets of conversation drowning out the important text.

on a similar note, hearing aids that properly filter out background noise. this would be an absolute blessing for my dad, who is hard of hearing and has hearing aids. if someone is, for example, typing on their laptop during a meeting, he can't hear what is being said anymore because the typing isn't filtered out.

hover wheelchairs. I don't think you understand the gravity of the situation. in all seriousness, if we ever get hover tech, this should be the first thing it's used for. just imagine how many "oops we said this place is wheelchair accessible but forgot the doorway is raised" and "this path may be paved but it's really too bumpy for a wheelchair" problems would be solved with this. even if they can only hover over existing paths and can't take bumps higher than 4 inches tall, that's still a huge improvement for accessiblity!
also, official multiplayer-friendly emulator consoles for discontinued licensed mobile games and games that had their official multiplayer features shut down. yes, I am mostly saying this because I want an official way to play Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep multiplayer and a way to play Kingdom Hearts Union Cross again, but I think this'd be a blessing for all licensed mobile gaming communities.
