Scottish Wildcats!!!!
They are not entirely unknown, but chances are if you were to see one. You would think it's a housecat- they're very shy and aren't seen by many humans tho. Some cool facts;

They have permanent grumpy faces.

Unfortunately, due to interbreeding with local cat populations and being hunted, they're very endangered.

They are one of the inspirations for the myth of cat sìths; which are soul-stealing cats that are as big as dogs and are theorized to be where the idea of cats having nine lives comes from.

The other inspiration is the Kellas Cat, which can be either melanistic Scottish Wildcats, or usually hybrids between feral domestic cats and wildcats.

They are featured on the crest badges of Clan Chattan!
And before you ask, yes, there are some very funny pictures of cat sìths.

this thread is PERFECT. I am in love with all of this.
Most of what I watch on youtube is videos about obscure animals and their biology (thank you Animalogic)
So my entry is the aardvark. For 24 years of my life, I thought aardvark was just the more official name for an anteater. I thought they were the same thing. I realized last year, that I had never actually seen a single image of an aardvark. I learned that their closest relatives are ELEPHANTS and MANATEES which is just buck wild for what they are. It's purely a case of convergent evolution that they have any similarity to anteaters. So, they are my new favorite animal.
Behold:

Harris's hawk! These guys are unique because they cooperatively hunt in groups and are very social. They have a kind of behavior called stacking where one stands on the back of another. It helps them get a wider scope to spot prey or other predators.

Uroplatus lineatus, aka the lined flat-tail gecko. More people are probably familiar with other geckos in the Uroplatus genus like the satanic leaf-tail or the mossy leaf-tail, but lined flat-tails are my favorite because of their patterns :]

The Bombyliidae family, or bee flies, are pretty cool! Some of them presumably superficially resemble bees to protect them from predation from species that would tend to avoid bees and eat flies. There are tons of genera within the family, but my favourite are the tiny, bee-like, fuzzy ones.
