Trying to be more social on this site so I'm gonna post some of my snail photos (snotos).
Here's a few backlog photos.
This summer I had a rough time keeping the snail terrarium (snerrarium) balanced (not having a place to live made it really hard to maintain). My potato bug population exploded and then died off almost completely. A bunch of my babies died and some of my less healthy babies somehow avoided culling so their shells were deformed. It caused a big drop in my snail tank population and I was very sad. But then as soon as we moved into our apartment and I got everything stabilized again:
Babies!!! Newborns!! I cried bc I felt so guilty about dragging them along my bout of homelessness, but they bounced back- life finds a way. *sobbing at the beauty and simplicity of such a tiny tiny creature lmao* Some of these were genetically healthy and survived into adulthood and are still in the tank.
Fast forward to springtime! Another clutch hatched! Here is a newborn on my finger and a photo of a snail I found at a local plant nursery!
My snail tank snails are a native species found through the midwest/south of America, but this hitchhiker looks like cornu aspersum, who is a European breed that was brought to the Americas for food. He will not be eaten in this home!
And here he is today!
That is one month of growth! He is already bigger than the adults in my planted terrarium!!! He's been in a quarantine tank and will be until the end of May, but I think he's gonna need his own snail tank instead of being housed with them. And maybe a few more cornu aspersum friends!
All for now, will post more when I have more snail updates (snupdates).
