Are there any pet/adoptable sites that are still alive that you recommend? I want to try out new sites in addition to FR. Bonus points if they're pokemon or digimon sites.
I've already tried Lioden, Sylestia, and Subeta, but the later two aren't my cup of tea.

OsamuDazai Pokéfarm, if you haven't tried already. There aren't any customisation options besides clothing, but there's variations of Pokémon that you can hatch and level. If I remember correctly, there's also a battling function I believe? You can trade with other players, too.

OviPets may be another option for you.
You can breed many species in every color and with cool genes. Also you can hatch, feed, adopt, buy and sell pets.
Me and my girlfriend played OviPets for a few months but honestly we didn't like the concept (super short breeding cooldowns and the graphic of the pets in gerneral. But overall the artwork is good quality).
But in the end, OviPets is similar to FR, maybe you'll like it. :)

I can second Dragon Cave, it's simple but still fun. You collect eggs, there's some hybrids you can breed, there's holiday events (the Valentine one is going on now, I think you could snag the new Valentine dragon if you sign up today). It's a pretty old site -- from before 2010 -- so the wiki has interesting information about how it used to look and work ect.

Goatlings is a cute site! The community is small. You collect goats and can battle the too.

i'm agreeing with a bunch of the sites with a lot of overlap with flight rising- dragon cave, chickensmoothie, pokefarm, and dappervolk. and i have to introduce you to leayph as well
