nyello, ive decided it's time for me to make a proper fursona but im having trouble. it feels like each attempt just isn't ,, me? if that makes sense. like none of them fit.

how did you come up with yours? are you satisfied with the representation your fursona makes? i need some help here ;v;
and if you have other tips please do tell! if this is locked that's okay lol im on mobile and can't scroll to find the other furry threads

I feel like if I were to have chose my favorite animal, it would've been a frog. ;v; It's totally okay to have multiple fursonas or even a chimera-type including different animals you feel represent you! Also, it's common for people to change species as they grow and develop so never feel like you cant change your mind.

My current fursona is mix between a bunny and a butterfly though a few years ago she was a Wolpertinger (Jackalope with wings)!

[img]https://orig00.deviantart.net/cb8b/f/2018/184/2/5/he_needs_a_neme_by_dingobreath-dcg6fkr.png[/img] i chose his combo because i wanted to draw something interesting, i guess. mandrills are cool and i love donkeys so i combined the two. my other first fursona was a raven/possum. i might draw them again since by then i changed a lot. it's best to find animals that fit [b]you[/b], but it's okay to choose an animal that doesn't. anthros don't always have to obey the rules of real life animals to a tee. there's definitely no shame in having more than one fursona, i plan to make a few more because there are animals that i WANT to make my own but i don't want to scrap any. it's fun to play around with other animals and you may find that one of them is the perfect character that fits you one day! and despite what some people say you can make your fursona whatever you want, it doesn't [i]have [/i]to be 'unique'. it should be whatever you want because at the end of the day it's your character and your art. i think if it's a nice character people will love it no matter what. there are tons of popular wolf/fox/husky (which are popular) fursonas and you can mix and match. if you want a dragon? do it! if you want a unicorn? [b]do it[/b]! you're not limited and you should do whatever you want. i think it's silly that some people think your 'sona can't be a mythical creature or whatever. you can also play with whatever colors you want! it doesn't have to be totally naturalistic. Yo, ex furry here. Here's my advice, do whatever you wanna do. Can't chose only one animal? Make a bunch of fursonas. Heck, make a hybrid fursona. Creativity has no limits. You can make them as simple or as complex as you want. Aren't satisfied whit how your fursona looks? Change it. If people can change, so can fictional characters.

My first fursona was a fox (wow...), but it didn't feel right. It felt too "trying to fit in". My next fursona was a capybara because I related to them way too much. You can chose any animals because of any reason really. You don't have to 100% relate to them. Sometimes you just like how they look and thats fine. No ones gonna judge you for how your fursona looks. I mean, have you seen how much variety there is in the furry community!

Unfortunately I got bored after a couple of years and moved on to explore different stuff, but I still respect my fellow furs.

I changed mine over the 20 years I've been into furry stuff, depending on what fit at the time.

These days, I don't have a fursona, as such. I don't bother interacting with the community on that level and just enjoy art nowdays. Plenty of furry artists I like don't have fursonas either.

And plenty of others have changed, overhauled or tweaked theirs during the time I've followed them, so just go with what you like and change it if you feel it doesn't work..?

@Lefty Yo okay first of all I love your name and your signature. ...but that aside... It took me a pretty long time to figure my sona out! I've tried going with animals i liked and felt would represent me - for instance, I started with a Doe, then went to a King Cheetah. And while I still would love to have Sona Designs using those animals... in the end, I ended up going with a dragon. ; w ; But not just any dragon - but one I had designed way back in 2011! When I did, it immediately felt right. [b]; w;[/b] My Sona's design still isn't complete - but it's just about the minor details! I picked this dragon, because i feel he looks cuter - more adorable - and ways slimmer, than your typical western dragon. Also, I guess he's on the more feminine / androgynous side. [b]. w.[/b] I am a very small boy - so I think this represents my body-shape and my nature and behavior well! I think he is clearly recognizable as dragon - and yet should stick out from the dragon-crowd! I like to think he looks unique - but not in a trashy way [b]. w.)[/b] So yeah! Don't worry if it takes some time - it took me abt 1 to 1.5 years and now, past 2.5 years in the fandom, I'm still not certain about all details! But hey - thats the neat thing about our Sonas...they grow and change alongside us! [b]. w.)/[/b]

FWIW I do know many furries who have no fursona. Either they haven't come up with one, or they just don't feel the urge to have one. So don't stress about not having a fursona. Just keep playing around with ideas and eventually one (or more) will stick, or they won't. *shrug* :}
