I don't want to make it seem like I place Japanese on a higher pedestal than other languages - but also, I've been studying this language for years and have hand-picked resources carefully - thus I'm convinced they are of value. Ultimately, I think I'll treat this like me simply contributing what I can best - so please, rather than viewing this as me playing favorites with japanese, view it as me showing my strong suit - while making sure I have enough time to find great masterposts for as many other languages as possible! • NihongoShark • Maggie Sensei • Tae Kim's Grammar Guide • JapanesePod101 - YT & Homepage • Nihongo Ichiban - JLPT Grammar, Kanji and Vocab Lists + Anki Decks • Japanese Lessons • Erin's Every Day Life Grammar Lessons's • Hiragana & Katakana Flash Game 1, 2 , 3 • Crunchy Nihongo* • LingoDeer App • Lentil - Kana & Kanji Flashcardgame • KanjiTomo - identifying Japanese characters from images YT Channels & Videos • YT - Game Grammar • YT - Master Kanji • YT - 'Taking the N5 + what I used to study' • YT - Talk in Japan • YT - Japanese Ammo with Misa • Animelon - Watch Anime w Subs, translations & explanations Textbooks, Reading & Novel PDFs • Genki 1 & 2 - Work + Textbook - Curriculum & Quizzes by Genki • Japanese for Busy People Vol 1-3 • Japanese for Busy People Kana Workbook • ChokoChoko Library • News Web Easy - News in Easy Japanese • Comico • Comic-it • Japanese Phrasebook Interesting Posts & Articles +2200 Kanji in 97 Days (yes this is legit - I did this and I've succeeded ; w ; ) •The Differences of Male & Female Japanese Speech • The Okinawan Language ------- ------- Language List I absolutely recommend checking out all Posts related to your Target Language(s) - as well as the "many more section" ! They include a mix of grammar, vocab lists, websites, Textbook PDF Downloads, App Recommendations - or even list to further Masterposts, to dig even more! At the end of the Thread I listed Masterposts for Masterposts :'D You definitely want to check out the "Many More" Section - because some Masterposts target multiple languages at once - thus, these aren't specific enough. Means, you will find even more Languages and stuff related to your TL there! So many in fact, that I gave up on trying to list them all... you don't wanna miss this - believe me! • Ainu Japanese Resources

Ever since I've settled for just gathering already-big Masterposts for individual Languages (because it's faster and of higher quality, since they were all compiled by people who're studying these languages and thus know what's important abt them) I've thought abt how to handle this Japanese Section.

Language List

I absolutely recommend checking out all Posts related to your Target Language(s) - as well as the "many more section" !
They include a mix of grammar, vocab lists, websites, Textbook PDF Downloads, App Recommendations - or even list to further Masterposts, to dig even more!
At the end of the Thread I listed Masterposts for Masterposts :'D
You definitely want to check out the "Many More" Section - because some Masterposts target multiple languages at once - thus, these aren't specific enough.
Means, you will find even more Languages and stuff related to your TL there!
So many in fact, that I gave up on trying to list them all... you don't wanna miss this - believe me!

However, it comes at the disadvantage, that unless you have a specific plan to follow, you'll have to manage your journey all on your own. You don't have a teacher who tells you what to do - and who'll hold you accountable for not having studied anything for weeks. This is one of the biggest reasons why many self-studying people don't make any noticeable progress for months - thus the first step I recommend is establishing a plan. Grammar books are like teachers - they take you by the hand and lead you down a road. The self-study setting meanwhile allows for detours to your heart's content! Depending on how popular your target language is, there are probably many handy resource-masterposts and study guides available! Tumblr has a huge lang-blr community and I absolutely recommend checking tags, according with the language you want to study! For example, here are the tags I often browse: study japanese, japanese, learning japanese, learn japanese, etc Useful Google Searches would be: Study Japanese Masterpost, Japanese Study-guide, How to Study Japanese,... You don't need a Tumblr-Account to see Tumblr posts, but having one is very handy, because you can save and organize useful content! It's nothing a browser's bookmarks can't do, however. Having an Account though makes the next step easier, which is... ------ #2 - Getting involved with communities! On Tumblr, for example, I have started out with creating my own Lang-blr (in order to actively post and thus feel more accountable, which I hope will keep me motivated :'D) and following a few other study-blogs. Over months, the number of blogs I'm following has grown more and more - thus, now on my dashboard I can barely scroll 10 minutes without seeing at least one language-study related post. Be it a quick grammar-point explanation, some new vocab, trivia about the language - or a neat, new resource! Having a dashboard which provides you with so much content can enrich your studies and help you find neat tools! However, Tumblr is only the beginning - if you don't like Tumblr and are more of a Reddit guy, you should check out and see if there is a Sub-reddit! Sub-reddits are usually well organized and will make searching for guides and Resources easy! Maybe, there is also a Discord Group you can join? Just open your eyes and reflect on what social media you enjoy using - chances are high, there might be a community revolving around a shared target-language! From what I have witnessed, people are very eager to share their PDFs of amazing grammar books, or give insight in some things they have discovered. Or, you can simply ask someone like-minded for a quick explanation of a certain grammar-point! ------ #3 - Start searching for Tools & Resources yourself! By now, you probably have a plan - or multiple - and hopefully have at least a slight idea of where you want to go. You probably have a few tools and Resources at hand now, which you can try and experiment with as your heart desires - so it's time to pick your weapons! However, soon you will realize that what works for some people won't necessarily work as well for you. Maybe you'll end up hating that super dope website everyone else loves (tm). This means, you'll probably end up stopping to use it, because well... you hate the interface. Or it's functions. Or the design. Or a mix of all of these. In order to keep your motivation up, do some diggind and trial-and-error-ing yourself! I can't stress how important it is, to find tools which feel good for you! There are so many apps and websites available (depending on what your target language is) - if you do enough digging, you'll hopefully find something which works for you! Continue reading what other people enjoy - and experiment! Maybe all it needs are some plug-ins to make Memrise more likable in your eyes? But also take joy in having the entire internet at your feet - which means a huge amount of tools and resources! ------- #4 - Speaking of Resources... How and Where to start?

You've decided to learn a new language, or you've just started, but don't really know how to proceed?
Fear not, this post will hopefully give you some ideas for the next steps and what to do!

tumblr_nj9kyb0AiI1r28672o8_500.png

#1 - Check for existing Study Guides!

If you're self-studying, you have the advantage of
having full control over what content and what lesson you
want to study, at whichever pace and in whatever order
your heart desires.
However, it comes at the disadvantage, that unless you
have a specific plan to follow, you'll have to manage your journey
all on your own.
You don't have a teacher who tells you what to
do - and who'll hold you accountable for not having studied
anything for weeks.
This is one of the biggest reasons why many
self-studying people don't make any noticeable progress for months - thus the first step I recommend is
establishing a plan.

Grammar books are like teachers - they
take you by the hand and lead you down a road.
The self-study setting meanwhile allows for detours to your heart's content!

Depending on how popular your target language is, there are probably many
handy resource-masterposts and study guides available!
Tumblr has a huge lang-blr community and I
absolutely recommend checking tags, according with the
language you want to study!
For example, here are the tags I often browse: study japanese, japanese, learning japanese, learn japanese, etc

Useful Google Searches would be: Study Japanese Masterpost, Japanese Study-guide, How to Study Japanese,...

You don't need a Tumblr-Account to see Tumblr posts, but having one is very handy, because you can save and organize useful content!
It's nothing a browser's bookmarks can't do, however.

Having an Account though makes the next step easier, which is...

#2 - Getting involved with communities!

On Tumblr, for example, I have started out with
creating my own Lang-blr (in order to actively post and thus
feel more accountable, which I hope will keep me motivated :'D
) and
following a few other study-blogs.
Over months, the number of blogs I'm following has grown more and
more - thus, now on my dashboard I can barely scroll 10 minutes
without seeing at least one language-study related post.
Be it a quick grammar-point explanation, some new vocab,
trivia about the language - or a neat, new resource!

Having a dashboard which provides you with so much content
can enrich your studies and help you find neat tools!

From what I have witnessed, people are very eager to share their PDFs
of amazing grammar books, or give insight in some things they have discovered.
Or, you can simply ask someone like-minded for a quick explanation of a certain grammar-point!

#3 - Start searching for Tools & Resources yourself!

#4 - Speaking of Resources...

Want to help?

At the moment I'm the only one updating the Thread, meaning gathering and adding Resource Posts, maintaining them and adding people to the Squads.
This is pretty do-able, but there's some things I either don't have the time, skill, or patience for - where I'd be super grateful if someone might be willing to lend help?

Ways you can contribute:
  • Good with coding?
And enjoying it enough so you don't feel like constantly killing yourself while doing it? Great! - You could come up with a beautiful and nice to navigate design for the big Main Posts!

  • Enjoy doing Graphics?
We could user some Banners, decorative Elements for the Coding-Squad, or smaller things to put into our Signatures, so we can further spread the word!

  • Want to Donate?
All funds will go towards commissioning banners / graphics for the Hub - none of it will go towards any personal projects of mine!
I want to fund multiple banners, buttons, Dividers and Decorations~!
Current budget: 50K -am currently commissioning!

Got further ideas on how to help? Bring it on~!

Simply PM or Ping @Naahva - I'm grateful for all kinds of help!
I want to make this the perfect Thread for all Language Students on FR - but I need some people who are more experienced in the areas where I lack the skills. ; w ;

A huge thank you to everyone contributing!

@PixelSpiral

Oh wow, Esperanto?
That's neat! Rarely seeing any Esperanto learners! : D
In case you have tumblr - or rather, even if you don't have one - I would go on Tumblr and search the Esperanto Tags!

Tumblr has a giant study-blr community - and a very significant number of language students of all fields!
I've seen some Esperanto students there - thus I'm pretty sure if you browse Tumblr (or maybe try and see if there is a Reddit Community?) you'll find some Resources!

When it comes to Esperanto the only site I do know is DuoLingo unfortunately - but I don't know how good the Esperanto section is. ;;
(Might be worth trying nevertheless, though?)

Looking for YT channels is also always a good idea - and be it only for exposure to the language!
